Fixed minor bugs.
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen is an absolute masterpiece of the JRPG genre, and this mobile port is perhaps the best way to play it. The vertical orientation is surprisingly comfortable for one-handed play on the go. The story is what really makes it stand out—the 'chapter' system where you play as different characters before they all eventually meet the Hero is a brilliant way to build a world and make you care about the entire party.
From Torneko the merchant to the tomboy princess Alena, every character has a distinct personality and gameplay style. The 'party chat' feature, which was absent in some older versions, is included here and adds so much flavor to the journey. The combat is classic turn-based excellence, and the orchestrated soundtrack is just beautiful. It’s a long, epic adventure that feels perfectly at home on a phone. If you have any love for classic RPGs, this is an essential purchase.
Five distinct chapters of storytelling
Party Chat: Talk to your companions anytime
360-degree world map view for better exploration
AI-controlled battles for quick grinding
The legendary soundtrack by Koichi Sugiyama
Take your time in the early chapters to explore and grind for gold. Any items and gold you collect in the first four chapters will be available once those characters join the Hero in Chapter 5. Specifically, in Chapter 3 (Torneko's story), focus on building your shop and stocking up on expensive equipment—it will make the transition to the final chapter much easier for your party.
Master the 'Tactics' system to automate your party members' actions in minor battles, or take full control for boss fights. Use 'Party Chat' frequently to get clues on where to go next or to hear the characters' funny reactions to recent events. Don't forget to visit the Casinos—they offer some of the most powerful equipment in the game if you're lucky enough to win big.
Yes, once the initial download is complete, the entire 40+ hour adventure can be played without an internet connection.
Good game but I can only rate these 4 stars due to lack of difficulty. There is none. Great story and plenty to do but I wish there was a difficulty setting because there is no way to lose a battle. Without a challenge I just dread getting into battles because they just seem to be time wasters. Maybe eventually they will add harder difficulty options but until then 4* is all I can rate. Once again not a bad game I love this series but even the originals are way too easy. Feels like a beginners or an rpg geared to kids as an intro to rpgs.
Square Enix wants to charge a premium price yet will only provide trash mobile support. The game’s cloud save function no longer works, so you’re stuck playing the game on the device you started on. Apple has expanded controller support, yet Square Enix Dragon Quest games do not support them. Not only that, but these games can only be played in portrait view. Making it awkward playing these games on larger phones or tablets, or even with your device connected to a tv. So Squeenix, either stop the premium price grab, or start providing a game experience that justifies the price. Because right now it’s almost just another mobile trash game.
This is the only version of the game with party chat available in non-Japanese languages, but it doesn’t have controller support and relies on on-screen controls without a landscape mode option. The graphics feel like an odd mix of different fidelities that are a bit jarring to me, but otherwise it’s tolerable.
Overall it’s a great game but 4-6 cloud services don’t seem to work at all, I recently bought a iPad and wanted to continue my progress but can’t due to their being some sort of error. All I ask if Square Enix can fix this problem from such an amazing game.
Great game, but the grinding is made almost unbearable since you can’t mute the sound (without turning your volume all the way down), which also means you can’t use your own music (Pandora/Spotify in the background). Super annoying. Many times I sit down to play but give up cause I just want some music playing at the same time. Fix that super frustrating option and I’d give at least a 4 star.
My family and I first played DW4 on the Nintendo entertainment system (NES) many years ago. Back then it was a ground breaking game with new gameplay systems and character development. The iOS version is a great improvement over the original, and will be a enjoyable experience for anyone that likes JRPGs.
Just beat it! It took about 35 hours for me. I love this game!! Anyone complaining about the price needs to realize this is a PLATFORM GAME, not some little iphone game. Remember when we paid $50 for a new N64 game? It's like that, but cheaper, and with the convenience of playing from your iphone. 5 stars!
It's always been a great game. Some character names changed slightly, but no biggie. Unlike the original version, you can control all of the characters instead of just setting their AI. It's been great replaying one of my all time favorites!
