Cloud save and camera fixes.
When my cousin and I were growing up this was our favorite game and honestly nothing has scratched that itch since, the nostalgia this game brings is exactly what I needed. The game is exactly how I remember it and honestly doesn’t feel aged to me at all. Also I am both shocked and ecstatic that this is on an iPhone now, it’s wild to me but that’s technology. I’ve been searching for a phone game I could love and this is it, it’s such a great game and it has been brought to iOS well, don’t listen to the people’s complaints most are unfounded, the aiming in this game was never great and it’s the same as it was before plus there’s a skill that shows line of fire for arrows and it’s easy to get use to. Also someone complained about the obstacles in the thieves guild being “too hard” or “incompatible to do on a phone game” can’t remember how it was worded but I just finished those said obstacles and did them on my first try, honestly they could have been harder lol but it’s a challenging game you won’t feel like you’re immortal in it which is great. All in all this game is amazing even on iPhone Im so impressed and I hope they bring dark alliance 2 over as well I’d never need another phone game again!
I got this game on demo (PS2 disc) when it came out, got it for PS2, kept my PS3 just so I could play it, have it on XBOX, and now downloaded on XBOX Series X, and yes of course now for iPAD!!! Have an M2 this works very well, only grumble is scrolling is a little painful, wish buttons on right were a little larger, but I can’t really complain to have this gem back. I wish they made more like these there is so much AD&D content just waiting to be created this was just a taste. Thank you! EDIT 1/3/26 I have no issues pairing my xbox controller and no issues with stat allotment I have no idea what others are referring to. No bugs for me on an iPad.
There’s a lot I would have loved about this game as it’s a faithful recreation of a classic from the PS2 era of console gaming. Unfortunately, two big issues, and one broken “feature,” keep me from giving this a better review. First issue, you cannot assign your stats to various attributes as you level. There’s a bug and it auto-assigns ALL points to strength. If you rolled a dwarf this may be workable, but if playing an Elf or a Mage you are totally blocked from higher content entirely. Secondly, even when using a control pad (the onscreen controls are god awful), targeting is totally off….much of the game is isometric diagonal play. On the old PS2 controllers, easy to do this. But something is wrong and you cannot achieve similar targeting on this game, either with a MFI certified control pad, a Playstation or Xbox paired control pad or on-screen controls. As such, you cannot take advantage of corner-cover, geometry cover or other similar tactics. You just have to face-tank everything and since the stats can’t be assigned defensively, you are hosed. Finally, the game promises GameCenter/iCloud saves and the ability to continue your game between your iOS iPhone and/or iPad alike. Would be great to grind out a level when on a plane or whatever. But that feature doesn’t work at all. Requests for support go unanswered. This game is basically abandon-ware at this point. Too bad!
I was hoping for something like Baldur’s Gate or Icewind Dale but it’s really more like Diablo IIRC. Which I enjoyed as well, but know your audience! BG enthusiasts like the relaxed pace of turn based combat and puzzle solving and lots of control over character stats. This game has a lot of arcade style play. The disappearing islands have now gotten really old and you’re not even allowed to save whenever you want which makes it worse. I don’t own a “game controller” but it looks like one will be required to play this successfully. The iPad controls are too clunky to do these precisely timed jumps. Certain controls don’t even seem to exist without a controller, like moving the camera lower so missle weapons can be used effectively. One’s finger tends to drift off of the attack button in the heat of combat so suddenly you’re swapping weapons or picking up stuff instead of attacking the guy trying to kill you. Enjoying it, but not sure it will last. Going to try one of the other two (!) character choices.
This game has so many great aspects, it’s a decent port of the original. Game is clearly intended to be played with controller as touch screen can be seriously frustrating. Some obvious areas of improvement: interface scrolling, inventory especially are really cumbersome. Seems like a glaring oversight as a few scroll buttons on the gui would solve. As it relates to game control, touch aiming doesn’t work nearly as well as controller and with 2 of 3 chars being ranged, an aim-assist would do wonders. The rest of the issues are really with the original game, save check points, the frustrating thieves guild platform jumping, bosses that can one-hit kill your etc, all of which will tempt the less-than-committed to quit and not return. Aside from all that, it is a really great game, derived from great source content and the the OG RPG brand. I’m satisfied but not elated.
When you hit every 4th level the option to select which attribute to upgrade is easily automatically skipped and defaulted to strength due to some hidden buttons. If you press and hold the inventory button you get the option to select which attribute to increase but you can’t change it from strength to any of the other 5 attributes. And even if you wanted to select strength there are hidden/missing buttons that finalize the selection and move onto the skills selection. I leveled up another character to lvl 4 to see what happened and I’ve been trying to debug this for the last 30 minutes without any success. I figured there’s some hidden button somewhere that I can’t see but I couldn’t locate it. I would appreciate this getting fixed as I will only be willing to play the dwarf since picking strength is the best option for him but the fact that this doesn’t work is kind of a bummer. Please fix and thank you.
This game is absolutely awful. It’s plagued with bugs, the enemies are too strong, getting better gear means nothing, and saving up enough gold to buy a single piece of gear takes hours. Also, it takes so much gold to survive a mob enemies, you’ll literally have to go back and spend plenty of gold on healing potions, since you’ll have to use 5-6 potions for a single fight with 3-4 mobs. The combat is awful, targeting is literally nonexistent, there’s zero enjoyment from playing this game. Overall the game is just awful, I was hoping to find a game similar to titan quest, but this is a pathetic abomination. Titan quest may be a little bit boring, but it’s leagues better than whatever this trash is, and much cheaper. There’s no world in which this pathetic excuse for a game is worth $12. I regret ever wasting my money, and am considering requesting a refund after having played not even 2 hours.
This is a great game and very nostalgic. The port is, however, uninspired. It’s good enough to sell the game, but it doesn’t seem like much effort was put into creating an enjoyable experience. That said, I’ve beaten the game on every difficulty (+extreme) and with every character (-Drizz) and then continue to play some casual runs. I think a few issues could easily be fixed to improve sales and ratings for positive ROI and a port you can be proud of. Easily 5 stars w/ a few tweaks. Issues: 1) Character building is broken - all stats forced to go into strength b/c the buttons glitch 2) “Camera angle reset shortcut” adds no value but adds frustration and could easily be locked or require 4 instead of 2 accidental clicks when I fat-thumb a button 3) Zoom distance should be adjustable for my iPhone SE’s tiny screen 4) Gauntlet mode is seemingly impossible and I’ve read PS2 guides from GameFAQs to no avail…not sure how it got tweaked or if it did (had to import a character to beat it) Playing on iPhone SE 2nd gen. w/ touch controls. App and phone are up to date.
