I started playing this game on the iPad because I like the portability factor. I played it when it originally came out and seems pretty true to the original. I like the setting but it is a little static because it’s a relatively early crpg game. The main issue I have is that I bought all of the premium modules, but I can’t seem to get them to install. All I get is a white box with a line with only the word cancel in it. Is there something I am missing or is there another program that has to be install. All of the premium modules now say install but they won’t. I think this iPad port has great potential. I really like that the classics have been ported to this platform. Updated Review. I can download all the DLC but tyrants of moonsea. It just stops downloading around 6 or 7 seconds and then asks me to install again. The game plays great and the touch screen seems to work well but it was a little confusing at first when you are used to PC edition. It is really nice having this as a game on the iPad. Correction: Managed to install after 7th time trying. I look forward to playing it.
I have played NWN for years and jumped at the EE when it came out, I play it on both my iPad and my PC at home. Once I figured out to put the buttons on the left side the game is set up beautifully for chat and whatever you need in a quick click intuitive way. I love the new textures that keep coming out and all the plans for future enhancements. I wish other game companies would take a page from your book. However, I can’t give the 5 stars I really want to give, because of the steep grade of the camera angle, you are not able to target at the full extent of the range of your ranged attacks. I have found many things discussing all that need be done is change the .Ini file. I have found no way to do this on an iPad. It is very frustrating how close I have to be before I can target. The second camera issue would be resolved by decreasing the angle of the default camera to be just a little more behind, instead of above the character. I tried the camera in Follow, Drive and default, all of the options and Could not increase my range of sight. Still, the trees blocked the camera, allowing only the small bubble of sight. I do love everything else about the way NWN ee plays on the iPad, but the shortened range of sight is really terrible. Please look into changing the default for iPad users. Thank you.
The PC version is still way better than the phone/tablet version, but it is very good for what it is. No ads and minimal in game purchases that mirror the PC version. Biggest draw back is that the character and screen view are way easier to control on PC and the larger screen on PC is much more fun. All that being said, the conversion to IOS from PC preserved and adapted most game functions in an understandable and intuitive way that makes picking up the game easy. One other draw back is that modules u purchased on PC seem to need to be bought again for IOS. Would be nice if those and your own custom modules just preloaded from steam onto IOS and characters too. While there seems to be a work around for tablet, there does not seem to be for iPhone. Still an awesome platform conversion!
It’s new and it’s bound to have issues. I hate that some people give low star ratings to newer games they’re scaring away prospective players and not giving enough credit to this masterpiece of a game. I’ve been dying waiting for another Baldur’s Gate-esk game to come out on iOS, and this does not disappoint! With hours of exploration and quests what more could you ask for? I’m not a “gamer” necessarily so I appreciate the adjustable difficulty settings. Are there bugs? Yes, like for example, an item that is needed to move forward in a quest is not in the chest or on the person that it’s supposed to be on. While I’m sure these issues will be fixed as the developers are made aware, at this point I don’t mind starting all over again with the hopes that the bug won’t happen in a new game. By far my favorite developer’s and game series!
I have owned this since it came out. It waited to do the review until I really spent some time with the game. I bought NWN for pc back when it came out and the expansions. This is a great port. Some things I like: when you put up your phone to do things or goto the Home Screen the game stays up without draining the battery. The game does not reset or have issues resuming. Another thing: the game play uses up very little battery life running in performance mode on my IPhone 16 pro max. Out of all the games I have and I have the best AAA games this one runs great. The character I have right now is a Rogue/fighter/Blackguard I’m progressing through the first campaign. Then doing the expansions I never beat. Let me also add to this review: you can do all the PC CONSOLE command codes by doing ## before a command. The first command is ##DebugMode 1 After that all the commands work with ##(command) (2nd part of command data). You input these using the chat button, which is to the right above the action bar. If your game touch screen mouse becomes bugged at a point after using some commands and appears like the icon of an item you summoned just save and reload and it will be fixed but you will have to enable debug mode again.
OK, actual review time. Lots of bugs. 1) The inventory radial menu icon does nothing. 2) Sometime highlights from one item appear when looking at another item from another chest. 3) There really needs to be some form of toolset implementation. 4) It still has an occasional memory leak, which was left over from. The PC/Mac game. Every once in a while, on a reload, everything drops to like 1 FPS or less. 5) The NPC AI needs to be improved a tad, your henchmen and familiars, etc. can box you into tight space and then not move. 6) You need to be able to tell familiars and animal companions to NOT attack chests. They will do it forever. 7) Marrok, the blacksmith guy, sometimes just wont make a recipe. The parts are there, he is there, but, nope– 8) The main character will often, all of a sudden, just stop doing anything when in the midst of a fight. Usually the PCs track new targets very well, but sometimes the main one just decides to stand there for a while, no condition or effect on them, and do nothing, even when gettin hit. I have tested this one a bunch. It mostly happens when a lot of action is going on. Please, make the toolset another app, and use Files to transfer new stuff to the game. It could not be that hard. The toolset is really what made this game special.
I can’t tell you how great it is to be able to play this on my iPhone. It’s literally the actual game from the PC. My only nit pick is that on my iPhone, everything is very small, especially the fonts of the dialog. It’s readable, but very tiny. Those with eyesight issues may need to wear glasses or use a magnifier. Controlling things like screen rotation, zooming, and movement, using the touch screen, takes a lot of getting used to, especially if you’re used to controlling things with a mouse and keyboard. And now for the feature request: I don’t know how feasible it is, but I would LOVE for the Construction Set that comes with the PC version of Neverwinter Nights to be included too, or at least available as a separate download. I LOVE building adventures and maps for Neverwinter Nights, and having the option to build adventures and maps in a portable way on my iPhone would be really great. I don’t know if the toolkit would be usable on and iPhone but I would love to have this anyway, for completeness. Great job on this port. I never imagined that I would be playing this game in something the size of my palm!
I have played Never Winter Nights going way back, owning the 2002 Big Box version of the game. Funny that back then, NWN really taxed my windows system with the breakthrough 3D graphics. Now we have this amazing game on mobile! Excellent port of Never Winter Nights to mobile devices. It plays just as the original PC version. A huge thank you to Beamdog/Overhaul games in bringing these Gems to new generations. Also, I was having some issues with running the game on an iPad mini2. All of a sudden; the game runs smooth with no crashes. This is Devs listening to the players. Optimization, tweaks have made this game open to older iOS apple products. So much appreciated, and thank you!
