Important security fix to address.
Children of Morta is a stunning achievement in narrative-driven roguelites, and its transition to mobile is nothing short of exceptional. While the hack-and-slash combat is fluid and satisfying, the true heart of the game is the Bergson family. Between runs through shifting, dangerous dungeons, you return to the family home to witness intimate moments of love, fear, and domesticity. It turns the usually repetitive nature of roguelites into a moving story about legacy and the strength of familial bonds.
The mobile port handles the intricate pixel art with grace, and the touch controls are surprisingly responsive, though using a controller is highly recommended for the tougher boss fights. Each family member offers a fundamentally different gameplay experience, from Kevin's fast-paced stealth to Linda's tactical archery. The way the game forces you to rotate characters—preventing 'level-grinding' with just one hero—ensures you experience the full breadth of the Bergsons' skills. It’s a hauntingly beautiful, emotionally resonant masterpiece that belongs in every mobile gamer's library.
Procedurally generated dungeons
Stunning hand-painted pixel art
Deep narrative about a family of heroes
Unique character classes and skill trees
Even when a family member isn't being played, their upgrades can provide passive bonuses to the entire family. Rotate your characters to keep them fresh and maximize the 'Family Traits' bonuses.
Each member of the Bergson family has a unique playstyle, from melee combat to ranged magic. Earn experience to unlock skills and use 'Divine Graces' found in dungeons to boost your power.
Yes, the mobile version features full MFi controller support.
The game is going great so far. I dig the theme and art style, as well the simplified gameplay. However, there are couple of suggestions i would recommend as of right now. First, the audio cue is a bit delayed. The sound effects of the attacks are a bit delayed and I would only hear it at the end of the attack. Second is that the auto aiming is a bit wonky. I don’t know if this intentional or not, but if its intentional then I would it be fix in order to be more consistent. Third, the fps is a bit low. It isn’t something that puts me off the most, as the game still runs smooth, but it could be better. Overall, the game is solid and would be even better with a couple of fixes and improvements down the road
Thank you for addressing the attack joystick issue! The 1st update appears to have completely resolved the issues I was experiencing with it. There is still a delay in the audio (around 500ms if I had to guess) that is only really noticeable on the 1st and last attack. Thankfully the game doesn’t really rely on audio cues so this isn’t a deal breaker, but can be a little off putting at times. Beyond this, I’ve been having an absolute blast with the game and highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys roguelites. The narration is a great touch and makes the story compelling, which tends to lack in this genre.
I am enjoying this game very much and you can tell it was well thought out. I see a bunch of complaints about the attack control. I think it adds a certain difficulty that I do enjoy, but maybe make it more responsive to directional shifts. I am having issues with the game crashing at Anai-Dya’s Dominion, mostly in the second cave section. The game just closes down and looses all progress of the current run, please fix this as it makes me not want to play the game. Upon fixing this issue I would give this game 5 stars as it has a enjoyable story and plays well. Thanks
Narrators voice acting is great. Characters are fun to play, some clearly feel better than others, but overall, all of them are fun in their own way. Exploration was decent, enemy variety can use some work, but it far from the worst I have seen. Art style is absolutely gorgeous imo, and is ultimately what lead me to try it. Everything is very crisp, and animations are smooth. Small events at home in between runs is a nice touch, and adds to the characters. Pretty great game overall, glad I picked it up.
I really like the RPG and roguelike elements that keep me playing the different characters and learning synergies. The attack joystick is *almost* there but you can get used to them after moving them around a bit. It seems to register the direction you start and end a swipe with, and I think it should really be more of an end state recognition. Still well worth the money and time.
Loved this one console and was sooo excited for it to come to mobile! Had just as much of a blast progressing through until the crashes just became an inevitable issue that stops me from being able to enjoy the rest of the game. Thought it was an issue that would be resolved by now, over a year later but unfortunately we’re still here :/ guess I’ll be putting it back down for another 6+ months and hope it finally gets figured out! 🫠❤️🩹
Controls are easy enough. I enjoy the fact that every character plays very differently, although some levels are far better suited for ranged characters vs melee and vice versa. Biggest glaring issue I’ve had is ever since unlocking the third stage, no matter what, the game will crash partway through my run. Which essentially makes the game unbeatable. I’d love to try again after that issue is resolved, otherwise it feels like an incomplete demo that I still had to pay for.
It’s something to do when I have a few minutes. Story isn’t bad. Game play isn’t bad. What’s driving me nuts are the interminably long cut scenes, the auto save which only saves after the long cutscenes, and the fact that a run can take a good 45 minutes and if I have to do something else there’s no save and resuming a run in progress. That’s super annoying when I lose 30 min of work because “auto save” didn’t do squat.
