Bug fixes
AFK Journey is a masterclass in how to evolve the idle RPG genre. Building on the massive success of AFK Arena, Lilith Games has created a sprawling 3D world that feels more like a traditional open-world RPG than a simple auto-battler. The art style is stunning—a vibrant, 'illustrated' look that makes every environment feel like a painting come to life.
The tactical depth is significantly increased here; character positioning on the grid actually matters, and the environmental hazards can be used to your advantage. What I find most refreshing is the lack of a 'grind wall.' The idle mechanics ensure you're always progressing, and the narrative is surprisingly well-written for the genre. It feels premium, respects the player's time, and offers a level of polish that sets a new bar for mobile RPGs.
Stunning 3D 'Picture Book' art style
Vast open world to explore and settle
Deep tactical hex-grid combat
Generous idle reward system
Cross-platform play with seamless progression
In AFK Journey, your 'Tanks' must be placed at the front of the hex-grid to soak up damage, while 'Supports' should be kept in the center to maximize their aura effects. Use the 'Tactical View' before each fight to check the enemy's attack range—moving a single hero one tile to the left can often be the difference between a wipe and a win.
Don't just stick to the main quest markers. Esperia is full of 'Chest Puzzles' and hidden NPCs. Exploring the foggy areas of the map often rewards you with hero ascension materials that are far more valuable than the standard AFK rewards.
No, AFK Journey is a brand-new game with its own story and hero mechanics, though you will recognize some fan-favorite characters.
I play this every day. I wait all day until 8 pm for the day to reset, and instead of immediately jumping to social media, this is what i go to! I love the art style of the game, and being a learning character designer and writer, I adore the designs. They’re so inspiring and makes me even consider one day applying for Lilith or Farlight! Despite how much I love the game, there are a few things that are a bit unfortunate. I’m in Act 3 of the story at the moment, back in Holistone, and the only section of the story that I found truly had depth was Act 2. Watching the character development was very nice, and I loved a lot of the cutscenes. I only wish the same depth was applied to other parts of the story, and I wish there was more “show not tell” as the characters have a tendency to say exactly what is happening instead of letting the player analyze. In the realm of the money-involved aspects, I think that everything is WAY too expensive. While the game is very rewarding, some people enjoy spending money. However, the money spent on this game is arguably extremely expensive. One ten-pull is $50, which is absolutely outrageous. Not only that, but some of the bundles can get up to $100. Other gacha games like Cookie Run Kingdom offer much more inexpensive options, and given that, it makes me not want to spend anything on AFKJ. The only thing worth it to me is the Classic Gazette (300 gems a day). While I love this game, there are a lot of things that can be improved. I hope that ask the game ages, it changes for the better. :)
I’d like to point out that at some parts of the story (the characters dialogue & dialogue choices for Merlin) are not translated into English. While the untranslated bits are few and far between, & may not have had any particular significance to the story, it had occurred enough for me to be bothered by it. I hope untranslated parts could be fixed (or just not happen at all) for both the sake of future chapters & new players. On the other hand, there were times where a character that was initially referred to as “he” would later be referred to “she” & vice versa. For example, when talking to a NPC about a goddess, they had originally said “she” but then switched to “he” before switching back again. The lack of consistency in either of the things I’ve mentioned above is what bothers me the most. Putting aside these issues, the game has surprisingly been a lot more enjoyable and interesting than I had expected. The story & the voice acting are both quite solid. The design of both characters & the world are both interesting & great to look at. I also like how the environment changes depending on what part of the story you’re at, as well as what the NPCs say before & after said changes occur, making exploring & then re-exploring fun. (Not to mention being able to pet some animals here and there). I also appreciate the general generosity of the game when it comes to resources, whether it be in-game currency or things to improve the strength of our heroes. Hope the game continues to be enjoyable as it is now, if not better, in the future!
First let me say this I absolutely love this game storylines with each story stories are amazing now there’s clans you can increase your friendship with them and the ore you interact the more gains I’m just so immersed into this game but the only thing that ticks me off is arena and honor duel (mind you it says fair play top left of it too) but as you play this it just gets aggravating I just got done with a arena battle because I needed arena points and that’s only reason why I play that game mode anymore but I had a total power of 697,000 almost 700,000 and the opponent I faced was 523,000 and they still beat me how does that even happen they are practically a whole 200,000 power below me and they are still able to beat me just feels diminishing like I put all this effort into upgrading and someone lower than me with less levels less rank ups wins?? And honor duel just put that fair play portion out because that’s a lie I had my whole team maxed out last fight still 3 lives all I needed was one more win and I lost 3 times in a row last fight and that’s just one situation I’m not going to babble about more but either take the fair play out because it’s 100% not or fix the power system because I don’t even believe it anymore because that’s clearly a lie too if I’m losing to someone 200,000 power below me
I got it because I was getting bored playing CoD and solitaire lol. The graphics are fun and the characters are well designed. Some are a little riské if you know what I mean but not over the top. You have cool looking characters and the cliché ones like the Templar who is obviously the tank. It has all of the aspects that you think of when you think RPG (warrior, rogue, mage, tank, healer/support). The community from what I have experienced is nice. Haven't ran into anyone rude yet, give it time, trolls will eventually come as they always do. Story is alright. Nothing to blow your skirt up. Battle system works itself but placement of your members and choosing what members you use on different opponents matter. They have guild activities and if you get stuck and can't get past the situation that just means you're done for the day and you can play again tomorrow because by then you will have what you need to level up. Actually that's pretty smart, I'm adding a star for that. It's not pay to win. Literally just doing playing the game and putting it down you will do fine. Great for kids. There are easy puzzles, and mini games like fishing and ddr like tapping games. The story is good enough it will keep you interested but your choices don't matter 😂 character creation is pretty simple but you unlock fun gear with quests and mini games you unlock game money to buy cool gear. Literally no need to buy game money but if you're lazy and want to waste money you won't play for long so feel free to throw money away. I was going to give it a 3 star but it's a good intro for kids to get into RPGs and basically gives you a time limit of how long you can play a day. 4 out of 5
The idea that anyone can call this an AFK game is delusional, you have to spend an insane amount of time actively playing the game and doing all these tasks nonstop every single day. The only time you are ‘afk’ is when you watch the game auto battle for 30 seconds. The rest of the time you need to position units every single battle, do 10 different daily tasks, keep doing stupid events that are only available AT CERTAIN TIMES A DAY. Don’t even think about spending money on this game since the prices are ABSURD. Every time you do anything the game vomits offers at you to spend more money. You may not think it’s so bad since when you first start playing they throw so many free things at you then suddenly that just stops and you are just dragging your feet around to do anything while they continuously plan to add more units that are EXTREMELY difficult to obtain unless you spend money, then even more to get the 10 copies needed to make them usable. Even deleting your account is a chore since they require you to go through customer service and post an obscene amount of information like where you live and a ton of billing information. This is a phone game for gods sake. There is no reality in which a game styled as an AFK game requires so much manual effort and tedium that requires you to actively play hands on. The game also overheats your device extremely quickly and will just crash at seemingly random times. It was a fun game at first but you quickly get disillusioned.
Probably one of the best afk games out there. It is beautiful, full featured, good story, and fun gameplay. I would give it 5 stars. However, its downfall is the same as many other afk games. In an effort to make players spend real money progression becomes almost none existent after while. This creates a state of uselessness in the game, where you can't progress the story because it is level locked. You can't increase your heroes level, because you don't have enough resources, and you can't further gain resources because because your heroes aren't strong enough. So everything you try to do you are either defeated or it is locked from you. The only option you have is to close the game and let the offline resources accumulate. So you end up loading the game playing for 30 seconds then closing it again. AFK games should always have something active the player can do that is not locked away. So you could get resources offline, or by playing a lot. Respawn enemies and special battles, create dungeons that the player can repeat for resources, more side quests. A good option for this game would be not to lock the battle modes. Let players compete in the arena, or honor duels, dream realm, unlimitedly. After the main attempts any other just give basic resources. I'm all for spending up progression by spending money, its a great game and they've earned it, but what I can't stand is when I can't play at all and have nothing active to do in the game either because things are locked, ran out of attempts for the day, or simply are not strong enough. I hope in the future the devs can balance it a little better.
This game has very high potential, but coming from a writer’s standpoint, I need to offer critique. Storytelling- The story is good! But it’s the way it’s told that is the issue. The story is very spoonfed, and leaves the player no chance to use their head, leaving a very dull experience. A lot of information given can in fact be inferred with context clues, rather than it being right there. The dialogue has the same issue, and leads to unrealistic and awkward interactions. For example, Atandra’s “I am Atandra, an exile.” No person would open with saying that they’re an exile. That is information someone tells you after a lot of interaction. Character design- The characters are cute, but I wish there were more body types and diversity. Sure, there are dark skinned characters like Atandra, but they’re portrayed in very skimpy, tribal clothing. If you added just one or three other dark skinned characters, things would be a little better. I also have issue with the grugglins being portrayed in tribes, which is often associated with natives and the stereotype that they’re “feral”. Voice acting- The voice acting is cute! But, sometimes the inflection makes things sound disingenuous and dull. All in all, the game has very good potential, and if those minor details were fixed, it would be so much better!
I want to start off this review by stating that this game is absolutely amazing! I’ve had so much fun playing this game because of its gameplay, rewarding mechanics, exploration, music, and most importantly the AFK mechanic that allows me to progress in the game without having to put in too much effort at all times. I’m very busy, and so having the ability to let the game run on its own while I work on other things is super helpful so that when I DO return to the game, I don’t have to worry about so much grinding. This game is EASILY 5 stars, but my problem lies with the many glitches and bugs. I’m not sure if it’s the app itself or my phone just bugging out but I’ve recently as of May 14th noticed that the app never seems to run for very long before glitching out of the game on my phone. Whenever I try to go into the Dream Realm, the app shuts down and kicks me out and I have to start over again. There were a bunch of visual glitches I ran into as well and I have a lot of screenshots and screen recordings of the app not loading or working properly. I can’t enjoy the game if I can’t play it! And that’s unfortunately what has been happening lately. I REALLY want to give this game 5 stars, but the app just won’t load properly and I can’t fully enjoy this game because of it.
