Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is a love letter to the compilation of FFVII, successfully condensing decades of lore into a polished, high-fidelity mobile experience. The 'Active Time Battle' (ATB) system is modernized brilliantly for touchscreens, feeling fast and strategic without losing the classic Final Fantasy soul. The graphics are a real standout, seamlessly switching between retro-inspired 'chibi' exploration models and breathtaking, console-quality cinematic combat.
The episodic format allows you to relive the original story along with 'Crisis Core' and the brand-new 'First Soldier' narrative, which provides fascinating context for Sephiroth's past. While the gacha elements for weapons and gear are present, the game is exceptionally generous with rewards and provides a deep, rewarding character progression system that respects the source material. It is an essential play for FFVII fans and a high-quality entry point for newcomers to the world of Midgar.
Stunning Console-Quality Combat Graphics
Episodic Story from the Entire FFVII Saga
Deep Weapon and Character Progression
Real-time Cooperative Raid Battles
During boss battles, pay attention to the enemy's charge bar. Switch to 'Defense Stance' just before their big attack to mitigate damage. Immediately switch back to 'Attack Stance' once the hit lands to maximize your ATB gauge recovery and counter-attack.
Use your 'Stamina Boost' tickets only on the 'Weapon Enhancement' stages during weekend events. This provides the best return on investment for upgrading your main team's power level quickly.
The story chapters are free to play, with a gacha system for acquiring rare weapons and character outfits.
Pre-registered to have this game before it released and once it did, I put a lot of time into playing it before life and work began to take what time I had to enjoy this addition to the final fantasy 7 saga away. The team behind this development did an amazing job recreating the original look and feel of the ps1 version of the characters but in an updated fashion and immediately it hit home that the development team took their time and did their homework across all media FF7 had released upon up to date and only true fans of the saga’s series would understand, feel recognize or know. From advent children to remake if you’ve experienced it, it’s here and that is a special feat to have created an in its self this edition is a masterpiece alone. With editions of telling Sephiroth’s backstory to recreating Zack’s life and legacy to adding other final fantasy titles in the series to 7’s world, the door has finally been opened to the reality that someday we will finally get a FF where from 1-16 all worlds, characters, experiences and stories will be in one game even if it’s the end all to the franchise (which it’s hoped it’s not, but wouldn’t be mad sad or disappointed if that’s how it ends or could end that way) this dev team helped open the possibility of this someday being a reality and did once again an amazing job of and with their craft. Grateful to have this title, played it and hopefully someday it gets ported to the PlayStation or UE5 or better so that this work gets the attention it deserves! Thanks for allowing all to experience this work and continue to stay the course as it was started disregarding the negative feedback and keep the mindstate had when the work was originally thought of, created, refined, and finally completed! I am a regular gacha player, and have put hours into several Square Enix based Gachas. Ever Crisis is fun, but there are a few glaring issues. At my current place in story mode, it’s detrimental to manually play. The AI is so advanced, and plays perfectly, that you’re punished for not using auto play. For example, I came across a quest that was recommended 3,300 power, and I was at 5,000. I couldn’t beat it. I put it on auto mode, and it cleared the quest easily. The interface is a pain. You can’t collect quest rewards from the mission tab. You “collect them” and they’re sent to your mailbox, where you actually collect them. It’s similar to FFBE WoTV, and I always felt it was an unnecessary step. My final complaint comes from the monetization. So far, I haven’t felt the need to spend money. The issue is how often you’re bothered with buying something. There is a gold highlight tab on certain menus, to let you know if there is a quest complete, or you have new items. To get the gold highlight to go away, you click on it, and it’s gone. On the MTX menus, you can’t make the gold highlight go away. It stays there flashing, trying to entice you to spend. That’s the only reason I can think of, that the gold highlight doesn’t go away. Square, you’re better than that juvenile predatory stuff. I’m willing to give this game a few weeks/updates, but it’s not really exciting me. I know others are loving it, but I’m not hooked.
The game is very fun and does a decent job being a gatcha game it’s reasonably fair. But there is one HUGE problem, it is WAY too Grindy, you have to level characters, weapons, summons AND events in between and the events have been good but they DO NOT last long enough. To stay current you would have to play 8 hours a day at least and then making events “one week only” only add to the problem; how can I get a decent score in an event that only lasts one week? You find the strategy and it takes a week just to level up the weapons, materia, summons etc etc then events over before you can even get the team built up for it. Here are the things that needs to happen: 1) make an auto / repeat or offline farming so you can get all the materials you need without playing 8+ hours a day (most games have this feature for that reason, it’s a no brainer and would let everyone be able to progress fair like) 2) make the events longer, the events are good and have various levels that start easy and ramp up so anyone can do them, HOWEVER again if you want any chance at beating the hardest/harder floors/levels/co-op we need some time to build the correct team for it. Right now event being 1 week only, how could you possibly figure out the best team/build and already have those all maxed out and complete the event inside of 1 week? Again maybe if you have time to play 12 hours a day and you just literally max everything there is but with no offline farming or auto repeating for farming it’s impossible for anyone who can’t play all day.
I was hoping for at least the entire storyline of the original favorite, but none of the three are completed. In fact, all three are barely started into the secrets of the three storyline. Slightly disappointed in the way materia and summoning is also handled; haphazardly redone from the original to only go up in level with materials that must be either hunted down or purchased with nothing about experience of use. Of course this could have been incredibly complicated if it was done the old way since there are also tons of various weapons each character can use and they changed that as well, having the weapons playing as two “main” weapons, one ahead of the other, as well as two “sub” weapons that could be anyone’s. There are also outfits to be won or purchased. All of this is confusing and takes away from the stories. On top of all of that, the stories have been broken up into parts. There is very little in the way of exploration. I don’t expect to be able to go into Cloud’s world and travel all over the place as I did the first time at all. While all of this is highly disappointing, for what it is, it is also understandable given what they were trying to do. And I will still play it. At least until they finish it.
Excellent storyline and excited to be able to have final fantasy on my phone. There’s plenty of side options and additional tasks to make the whole experience fun however the items are way over buffed and they give you a ridiculous amount of items. I can understand if you were to pay and wanted to max out your stats and character but within 3-4 days of playing just with the free extras they give out, I have an unlimited amount of resources. Before level 10 it seems I already have some of the best items in the game, can max out every stat and weapon. It really takes away the fun and it’s like I’m just tapping going through the motions instead of actually playing and being decisive about the game. I liked the toughness of the original games where you had to really grind to get items or take your time to decide which weapon got the upgrade, pick which character would get the boosts because resources were limited. That is absolutely not the case here. This game literally just unloaded every item on me all at once. It’s no longer fun so I purposely will use lower level stuff and not level up everything to make the experience more reasonable. I don’t want to one hit every monster because they gave me every characters top level weapon just for simply logging in for the day.
I’m a day one player and the state of the game has declined so drastically. It’s devastating to be honest. For the first 9-10 months I didn’t have to spend very much to stay competitive and clear hard content. But the game took a sudden shift from that to requiring maxed weapons from all new banners, sometimes there are 4+ limited banners going at the same time. The drop rate for 5* banner weapons is ridiculously low. It’s taken me 26 pulls and buying the weapons for 5k paid currency on some banners. The ranked battles are laggy, crash, buggy, and some, like the current one, are unplayable. There have been so many ranked and limited events that players are screwed out of clearing them. The one going on now locks up during a cast scene but the fight continues—I can hear the sound effects but all I see is one unit and a bird—no skill bar, no unit list. It stays like this until my team dies. Another issue is trying to cast an LB to survive an incoming attack the cast doesn’t go off, it won’t swap characters, then it’s like the game de-syncs and rolls back my skills—but not the boss attacks—and the LB is no longer ready to be used. It happens so routinely that I’ve been able to go into another attempt and record what’s happening. A recent Sephiroth one wouldn’t recognize the damage if two attacks landed at the same time and wouldn’t deplete the bar, LBs wouldn’t cast, after cast scenes stance swapping wouldn’t work but the gage would still drain, you couldn’t switch characters, etc.
Great Game! I’m enjoying every bit of it but its starting to become a huge grind and microtransaction heavy for those who are playing this without spending much. Also, the reward for the content currently is … lacking (ex. 3 measly low tier grindstones for a boss fight that requires 80K power level)? Maybe Square is going to provide better updates in the future since this game just came out recently.. Cons/Remove: 1. Either remove the part where you have to guide the character around the level by clicking or put set visible enemies in the level rather than doing the old “couple steps counter” to trigger enemy method. I thought we moved pass that since FF12 came out (excluding FF13 which they made a mistake in the battle/random encounters). I like the automatic storyline setting where I can experience the story then just go into a battle.. 2. Too many “currencies” for different things, streamline to make ~1-3 currencies. Also make the blue crystals worth something decent… Should also introduce daily free draws for weapon and gears just like FF Records Keeper when that came out. 3. Revamp your upgrade system for characters. Its confusing to know which part leads to a higher power score; ex. I maxed out Cloud’s Buster sword to level 70 with all the fixing possible and gone through 6-7 character streams fully unlocked but still lacking decent power score for that character alone?? Pros: 1. Great with the animated wallpapers 2. Great job in keeping the original VA from the game (Japanese Dub or nothing). 3. Love the option to be hands-free almost all the time (except above where you have to guide your character in a level); I opt for 100% hands-free and being automatic! Thats my review for now.. we shall see what comes out of this in the future updates..
Definitely a fun reinterpretation of the original “Final Fantasy VII” and its accompanying sequels or spin-offs, from its active turn-based battles, to character and art designs harkening back to the polygons of the first game. Be that as it may, I would definitely like to see several things change in order to better accommodate players: •Options for difficulty & more options for upgrades: With this mobile title in its current state, there’s really not much to do outside of the main campaign except for solo side content that becomes repetitive and boring once players are left with no choice but to keep replaying the same levels in order to get the items they need to level up. It’s okay to offer options to buy with real world currency in free-to-play games, but they shouldn’t be directly built into the design of these titles just so players can’t progress at a far-off point of the main story mode without having to take out their wallets, or wait for either special events or daily log-in rewards…. •Add more side campaigns and limited events: There’s only been one limited event so far and while its story was fun, it was far too short… The side campaigns providing upgrade materials for characters, weapons, and materia shouldn’t have a vast difference in difficulty that forces players to keep grinding in previous levels in order to acquire what they need. While I understand that the companies behind these games need to turn a profit at the end of the day in order to continue existing, it would still be better if Square Enix would stop trying to push players to buy packs of materials using red crystals bought with actual money once they reached specific milestones….
