My Child Lebensborn is a hauntingly beautiful and emotionally taxing simulation that transcends the typical 'pet sim' genre. Set in post-WWII Norway, you adopt a child born of the 'Lebensborn' program. The game expertly balances the mundane tasks of parenting—cooking, bathing, and budgeting—with the crushing reality of systemic bullying and social stigma. It is a slow-burn narrative that forces you to make impossible choices: do you tell your child the truth about their heritage, or protect them with a lie?
The art style is evocative, using a muted palette that reflects the somber historical context. Every interaction feels heavy; when your child comes home with torn clothes or bruises, the emotional weight is palpable. It isn't 'fun' in the traditional sense, but it is deeply moving and historically significant. It’s a rare example of a mobile game that uses its mechanics to foster genuine empathy and education about a dark chapter of history.
Based on true stories from Lebensborn children
Impactful branching narrative and dialogue
Resource management: food, money, and time
Unique hand-drawn art style
Winner of the BAFTA for Game Beyond Entertainment
Balance your limited time and money. Work extra hours to afford better food or gifts, but be aware that spending time away from your child affects their mood and sense of security.
Pay close attention to your child's body language and expressions. Choosing the right dialogue options during difficult conversations is crucial for building trust and helping them process their trauma.
While the gameplay is simple, the themes of bullying, war, and hatred are very intense. It is recommended for older teens and adults.
I'm not the type that tends to do many game reviews, and I've installed a lot of mobile games on my phone but none of them compare to this absolute masterpiece. First off, the entire story plot is sensational and beautifully written. Secondly, the graphics are wonderfully made. One of the things that I love about the game is how educational it is for younger kids. You can learn about Klaus/Karin's parents and other relatives. And not only are the relatives that you learn about just "fake" but you learn about German soldiers and young Norwegian women, including topics as to why they were treated with so much disrespect. I'd reccomend this game to anyone who is able enough to sit down and play something for hours, because it's a similar concept here, to which you can play whenever you'd like. I must admit that throughout the chapters of parenting Karin, which was who I picked (as you have the option to choose the boy (Klaus) or the girl (Karin). I ended up getting myself emotionally attached to Karin, and the way that we connected all through the screen was just heartwarming. Everything is just so well done and the amounts of detail and effort that was made in this game honestly deserves an award. You may be questioning yourself as to if you should buy this game because it's 2.99$, but I can assure you that the money your paying will be worth it, espcially because it donates to charity. Well done developers. <3
I have played many mobile games but have truly never cared about one enough to write a review, this game is different. When downloading this game I knew nothing about it, I saw it was rated highly and adored the art style of the boy looking at me, so I downloaded it. Instantly I loved it. The story had be bursting into tears at times while feeling so happy at seeing this little guy smile even though I knew in the back of my head he wasn’t real. The art style is fantastic and truly some of the best I’ve seen for a mobile game as well as the graphics. I’m happy to say I’ve encountered zero glitched playing the whole thing which I was surprised by. Either way, if you are looking for an interesting, and heartfelt story full of heartbreak and triumph, download this game. If you want to find a game that has beautiful and cute graphics and art style, play this game. If you want further knowledge about the topic the game presents, download this game. And that’s all I have to say. Thank you developers and everyone else who worked on this game, you all truly did an amazing job and have my best wishes for future projects.
I had no idea this game existed until recently this month. However, I am more than happy I chose to buy it and give it a try. I played it within 24 hours—I was absolutely hooked to the story just five minutes in. Quickly, the only thing I wanted to do was keep the child safe and shower him with endless love. Countless times, I teared up over the mistreatment he faced. It felt authentic and real. It ripped my heart up. Even the ending left me feeling helpless, yet oddly fulfilled. There is a lot of realism in this game. It hurts, but it is realistic. The only thing we can do is hope with all our hearts for the well-beings of the children in this game. To anyone looking to spend a little bit of money on the App Store, I highly recommend buying this wonderful game. It isn’t difficult to learn how to play. However, the story is rather powerful and touches on some sensitive topics, so I’d advise players to tread lightly. It had me crying on multiple occasions. Trust me—you will be unable to finish this game without loving these kids. This is definitely one of my all-time favorite mobile games ever made. It’s simply astonishing.
Wow. What a phenomenal game but what a tragic one as well. I had no idea the stigma around German children in Norway. We always hear about one side of the Holocaust but we don’t hear about the Lebensborn children. How unfair. This game is not for children though. SPOILERS AHEAD: The things that happen to your child in the game are horrid, and although it doesn’t always outright say what happened, it’s very clear what has happened to your poor child. My child’s teacher Mr. Berg had me deeply concerned because I was afraid he had romantic/sexual interest in my child. Well it turns out yes, the poor child was abused but by the teacher that followed. This tore me up and had me furious. The game as I said earlier, never said this, but the child didn’t want to eat, bathe or be touched afterwards so it was fairly clear the teacher had sexually assaulted her during “detention.” There was also a time when the child comes home and they’re covered in urine. I don’t know who urinated on her but that truly tore me up as well. I can’t believe this happened to these children just because of their German heritage. A profound, somber game that will stick with me forever.
This has got to be the most emotional game I have ever played. It only took me two days to get through it, but oh my god, it was worth it. I honestly feel like I learned so much more about the aftermath of ww2 because of this game. I was completely unaware of lebensborn children before those game, which is insane on a whole other level. Schools always teach us about ww2 and all that stuff, but you really never hear much about the aftermath. Most importantly, this game just… really hit hard. I cannot say I relate to how the real children and mothers of these children felt, but I feel like I got a taste of it when playing this. There were times I really felt like Karin’s mother, so much I even forgot I was just playing a game. There were times I cried and got seriously… peeved off… because of the events that happened in this game. It completely breaks my heart that real lebensborn children had to go through this. But there is one think I can relate to. If I was alive during the aftermath of ww2, I would adopt this child, maybe more, in an instant, and give them the best life possible.
I don’t usually pay for games but this one peaked my interests. As you play the game you really feel like you are the parent speaking to Klaus or Karin. Every thing you say can effect how the child feels and you begin to want to do best for them. At times I wanted to cry because of how real the storyline is and how if it were real life you would have to make these decisions. It has dialogues that you would have with a child and thoughts that you would think if experiencing that in real life. Throughout the game I kept thinking how horrible it would be if it’s real until the end. *SPOILER*…….. It threw me off at the end to find out that this is inspired by the real life experiences of actual children and families. This game taught me about what these parents felt and their choices, the impact of the children, and an untaught event in history. In the end I want to research more because I never considered the child born of war existing and what happens after the war. This game is unique and worth playing. It’s one i would only play once because the emotions while playing it were intense.
This game was so amazing! I’d recommend to anyone who likes history, and wants to learn about what happened in the past. There are people who have wrote reviews on this and say “This game has so many bugs and it doesn’t teach anything.” They are the ones who haven’t played or are just very rude. This game shows if you want to raise a Girl or a Boy, It’s where you get to raise one of them through the time over a year and a half in the game. I don’t wanna spoil much but I really do think this game should be 5-10 dollars cause it’s just unbelievably incredible. You grow attached to the child and want the best for them. I really do recommend this amazing game. The things that I really do wish that where there is where if the game was longer at the ending, cause I really loved having someone to take care of and cheer up when there sad. I started playing this game in the morning and it ended later in the afternoon. I’d recommend to play this fully when you are free for a while. Thank you for taking your time to read this. Thank you! <3
I started seeing this game on tiktok. A lot of people were recommending it so I went to the App Store and saw it costed money. So I was thinking not to get it however it says part of the proceeds go to charity and seeing it was only three dollars I decided to but it. I would like to say that this is a very long story game that can not be completed in a day. Witch I strongly like. Also this game has many choices making you in control of mostly what happens so you can play multiple times getting different answers and things can go differently each time. Another thing I like is that you can choose different children to take care of! One is a girl and the other is a boy. Like I said there is many options leaving you in control however the baseline of the story continues on. I had many feeling throughout this game with the things that happened to the child. I 100% recommend this game to everyone!!! I enjoy it greatly!
