Dinsun Expert Review

Our Expert Score

86/100

KAIJU NO. 8 THE GAME is an exhilarating action RPG that successfully captures the scale and intensity of the hit anime. The production values are top-notch, with voice-acted scenes and high-end visuals that make you feel like you're part of the Defense Force. The 'side story' approach is a smart move, offering fresh narrative content that feels authentically connected to the main franchise without being a simple rehash.

The combat is strategic and satisfying, requiring you to time your character skills and ultimates to survive against screen-filling Kaiju. It’s more than just a button-masher; the team-building aspect demands a good understanding of character synergies. For fans of the series, the level of polish and the opportunity to interact with the cast in new missions make this an essential mobile companion. It’s a high-energy, story-driven experience that doesn't disappoint.

Lots of Potential
Wed Oct 08 2025 D0rag0n24

This game is awesome. The graphics are so good, and the gameplay really satisfying and the animations are incredible. The only negative thing so far is the lack of content. I’ve been playing for just a week and I got most of the characters, finished all the main quests and memory quests, so the only thing left is the Combat Zone. (A game mode made of 15 levels, increasingly difficult, that gives you rewards upon completion and that resets each months) And all I have to do left is upgrade my characters enough to finish it but that’s all I can do. Either this if y characters are strong enough, or wait till I build up enough energy to do the training quests to level up my characters and their weapon. But I hope it’s only temporary. The game just came out and besides the lack of content (which is normal since this game was just released), it’s peak. I’m looking forward for future updates, this game has a lot of potential, I truly hope we won’t be disappointed.

The worst gacha system
Sat Dec 27 2025 BaneofVader

Quitting this game has been one of the best choices I’ve made for my financial situation. The gacha system in this game is by far the most horrible and greedy system I’ve seen in any mobile game like this. I’ve never seen a pity above 200 before and banners that have BOTH weapons and characters on them. You will get the same standard banner weapons and characters on the limited time banner, even after you have max copies of them and you will get nothing for it. It is extremely exhausting having to spend to pity for 4 banners back to back when they continue to release characters and they just don’t drop. Mind you, I’m not saying you won’t get any legendaries because you absolutely will. It will be all or mostly standard banner legendaries and characters that you already have. It’s exhausting because you want these cool new characters that they release and there’s nowhere near enough in game currency to grind for them, so you pay. You pay to get NOTHING though and leave with this horrible feeling of “I’ve just lost my paycheck and for absolutely nothing”. The pickup rate is a straight LIE. You do not have an increased chance at getting the limited banner character weapon. You may get lucky once, or even twice and be shocked but that’s it! The gameplay and story are fine and fun, though very repetitive as it’s the same gameplay loop over and over.

Disappointed

Lack of game content all in game current content gets swept in a day or two but truly a few hours really rewards are lacking login rewards especially for a new launch are underwhelming summons pity is way to high for your current banner to f2p currency exchange as a banner from launch there should be enough currency to pity at least one unit but following the launch with Reno ichikawa there’s not enough summons to pity exchange for him or let alone be close to exchanging for sangan I feel like the rates are drowned out by the weapon pull rate even tho the weapon drop rate is significantly lower than the featured 5 star unit and weapon drop rate you still end up pulling them more so than pulling the rates up unit I feel there is something severely wrong with the rate percentages it feels off or somehow wrong or manipulated I’ve done several rerolls and have noticed the frequency of certain units and or weapons seem to have high appearing rates the games stamina system feels half baked and limiting on how much you can really play the games stamina system without using gems to fully stamina refresh because stamina packs return 1/4 of full energy with no way to increase stamina cap so you locked at max cap of 200 with every event/ training stage costing 20 stamina a run so you get 10 runs of any stage then it’s play the waiting game for your next shot at progression it just feels bad

Amazing, few ideas + glitch!!
Fri Sep 19 2025 Truck man 19

This game is great and will definitely be playing it more and more. I have a few ideas that I think could help improve the game. 1. A character recycle feature, I can already discard weapons and get material but a character recycle feature would be amazing. I’ve already noticed how much grinding it takes to get level up materials for characters so knowing that I would have the ability to recycle them and get my materials back after all that investment would be amazing. 2. There is a glitch in stamina refilling, when I use jelly refills it doesn’t register, when I use diamonds it’s very delayed in registering and I end up spending too many diamonds. 3. I think the training should cost 10 instead of 20, this is only due to how much of an important part training plays in leveling up, costing 20 and only getting 10 training playthroughs a day off of refill doesn’t work very well and the amount of time it would take in order to level up or stock up materials would be a bit of a downfall for me. Other than these things the game is amazing. I hope the developers take the time to consider these ideas and fix the glitch.

Entertaining but has its issues

I’ve made it to player level 34 at the time of this review. I’ve completed the story missions and all available side missions at my level. The game is overall a good game. The visuals are great. The combat is like any other turn based RPG and it has a neat follow-up mechanic that adds a little extra to the normal gameplay loop. The only real negative I have come across in the game is its particular gacha system. It is generous enough in my experience, however it is unforgiving in the actual 5* you receive. You can pull in the rate up banner and pull the same 5* weapon 6 times in 70 pulls without seeing a 5* character, let alone the rate up character( because it’s not guaranteed just increased rates). I see nothing about a pity system in the actual rates they explain in the details,so expect a true randomness in your pulls and don’t expect mercy if you have poor luck. If you are someone that wants to enjoy the combat of a turn based rpg or you are a fan of the anime I would definitely recommend this game. If you want to play free to play and don’t have incredible luck or care about getting specific characters I would look somewhere else.

Limited playability
Fri Sep 19 2025 odoskwwjjsoskd

The game is cool, but played 2 days and ran out of things to do, the games needs more content. And for the love of god quit adding in restricting elements , the amount of stamina they give is not enough and want you to pay an arm and a leg for it, if you need ideas go look at the tokyo ghoul game lol , atleast you get maxed out stamina every level up and ways to easily get more… if you want to level up your characters in any way you’re going to need stamina point blank in this game. also another lame restriction they put on the battle pass is you can’t even claim all challenges bc there is a cap of the amount of points you can attain a week … find other creative ways to slow us down or make our journey longer but the methods being used seriously makes you lose interest quick. add pvp , add limitless mode , add a dungeon mode , create events for certain bosses and characters and ways to obtain them , there’s so much potential.

Let me listen to music while I play (updated review)
Sun Feb 08 2026 Myopic_Magikarp

I enjoy the game, even if there isn’t much to do in it most times, but for the love of god let me listen to music while I play. I have all audio muted and it still stops music I have playing when I open the app. I listen to music all the time, and when a game stops my music I’m far less likely to use it. There’s no reason I shouldn’t be able to listen to music. The review will remain 1 star until then because it’s that important of a feature for me. As soon as it’s changed mg review will be adjusted accordingly, if I’m still playing by then. Adding on to this issue of mine which hasn’t been fixed still, the current gacha system is so frustrating. I get it’s gambling but on the current banner I’ve managed to get a 5 star to pop up multiple times and every time it has been an exclusive weapon for a character I dont even own. I’ve yet to get a single copy of the featured character. 4 separate times I got a 5 star weapon that I can’t even use and that’s just on this specific banner. That’s beyond frustrating.

Great game terrible Gacha system
Thu Nov 20 2025 Air king ♪(´ε` )

The game is well-made and fun, featuring a handful of diverse challenges across story mode, raid bosses, and challenge mode. Where this game fails is the drop rate for featured characters. You would think it’d be easier to get a character and weapon with an increased drop rate, but that couldn't be further from the truth. As a whale, nothing upsets me more than getting several characters I've maxed out forever ago in a featured banner when they have their own separate regular banner that you can spend normal tickets on. When you get a duplicate character that you maxed out, it's worthless. They should reward you with medals instead of gems that you can barely spend because of a once-per-month limit. Also, $60 USD for 3.5 is steep. Save yourself if you do spend money because these rates are one of the worst I've seen. At least the Persona 5X learned and fixed their system to at least guarantee you the banner character after so many summons. I love the game, but I hate these ridiculous rates.
