This update resolves issues with the turn-based mode. Thank you for playing!
I like to call games that you can play offline for hours airplane games, and this is a great example of a good airplane game. There are also no ads, so you play uninterrupted. The economic system of the game is also very good. It’s neither too hard nor too easy, and the random events tie it all together by making you think ahead of the possibility of losing resources in the future! I really like the art and I find the music pleasant but not distracting. I really enjoy how you can have turn-base mode too, I occasionally like to swap it out and give a refreshment in the gameplay. Just the free version is really good, the amount of gameplay available is perfect, it makes you want to have more access but doesn’t restrict things to the point of forcing you to buy it! Very virtuous of the developer, especially for a The game isn’t complete yet, and new. My one complaint is how everything looks so similar, I think there should be 2-3 skins per object that each object has a probability of getting that skin, (I know that’s a lot of work) but it would make the game more visually exciting without having to add more structures. Anyway, great work dev team, you guys made a really cool game!!!
Absolutely a work of art. The idea is absolutely perfect and it has a really informative tutorial! I love this game, people who are complaining about the full version being 5 bucks don’t understand that if there are no ads, the only way the devs can make money is in game purchases. In this case, a full version. But even with 0 dollars spent you could still experience so much of the gameplay, even the tutorial was so well put together! One thing I would like for the devs to add though is definitely an endless mode, as a fan of roguelikes and roguelites, having an endless mode would just be the icing on the cake —the cherry on top. I imagine endless as trying to survive as long as possible, as exploring new land get more and more challenging as you progress! That’s my only critique. Thank you, Short Circuit Studios, for bringing us this amazing work of art.
Similar to Civilization or Catan… I’m having a good time with this one, I’ve seen a few reviews that it’s too easy or boring… if this kind of game isn’t your thing, I can see where you’d be bored- it’s a strategy game, you’re meant to move methodically, with thought and planning.… That being said, I haven’t once considered this game “easy”, and have even searched through trying to find a level difficulty setting. I do wish that there was an option for open sandbox, without preplanned level requirements. The counter adds a bit of stress and sometimes it’s nice to play without limitations. Just a thought. All in all- I’m really enjoying this game and I’m glad to have found it… and the $5 is worth the extra game play.
For starters, I was hooked to this game when I first started playing it, but if you play the tutorial, they fail to make it clear that you have to pay for it after the tutorial. The concept is great, however, this game punishes you too much. This is coming from someone who has played all the Soulsbourne games, which are the kings of punishment. The reason I find this to be unsatisfying is due to the fact you could complete many regions in the campaign, SPEND HOURS completing the stages just for it to make you restart from the beginning, and play the exact. same. thing. Do not get me wrong, I like the idea of punishing games, but some of these stages are practically impossible unless you literally have a notebook out to write out your plan. Some may be able to complete it, whatever. But it kind of just makes the game more annoying to play, rather than challenging. When you restart from the beginning, at least make it different. Also, the main point I would like to make is about the concept of the game itself. It was made extremely unclear before going in what the game actually was. I thought this was going to be a consistent, idle, townbuilding game. Turns out all it is is challenges! Then your realm is just gone and you start another one. These guys had an interesting concept going, but it is not what it seems. Guys, do not let the unique art or convoluted mechanics draw you in. Not worth the 5 dollars. Sorry.
My favorite part about this game is that it makes me feel like I’m playing a fresh board game. It has a good polished look and there’s enough tutorial to get you started without being unnecessarily long or hand holdy. Even though the games campaign is locked behind a paywall this is no issue. It is worth its price, and by purchasing this game you are supporting a small game studio to continue to update and make this game even better. Even without the full game there is a decent amount of free content after the tutorial. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that there is a distinct lack of post game content. Once you’re done, you’re pretty much done. I hope that the game continues to be developed and am very much looking forward to seeing what they can come up with.
I normally delete a mobile game after a week but TownsFolk is different. There is always so much happening and there’s so much strategy in the game. I’ve played many mobile games and this is a master class. There also are no ads unlike other games and to do well in the game you do need to pay to unlock the full game though. But this is a great game that I think if you like tycoons or home building games you should definitely give it a try. Granted it’s tough at first when you have no idea what you’re doing, but the game just keeps getting better and better. In summary it’s a great game with no ads that I think anyone who likes tycoons should play.
I haven’t really been applying for terribly long, but I’m already hooked, it’s just complicated enough for my brain to latch on and not so complicated that it makes me get overwhelmed, the perfect balance, its also one of the only games that makes me think about my choices to make sure that my civilization/settlement doesn’t fall into dissray, also the art is probably some of the best pixel art I’ve ever seen in a game, there have been a few others that come close, but this is just amazing, my only minor complaint is that there’s only four biomes, but that’s it, thank you for making this game and have a wonderful rest of your week!
Pros: 1. art style feels retro 2. Once you get used to the game it feels enjoyable 3. The game is complex with each civilization having different things they’re good at. 4. Very replay-able 5. Updated regularly with fixes to bugs or new content Cons: 1. A few bugs here and there. (Nothing I’ve personally experienced to be game breaking yet) 2. Bad spawns…. Listen if the game spawns you in surrounded by water you’re doomed early on skirmish. Devs you need to come up with new ways to add housing and food on water. 3. Going back to water, it just feels like the freedom is lacking on this tile. It just feels like it’s just there and not something we can interact with until late game until we get the terraformer. 4. While the game does have some interesting features it just feels like there could be a bit more. Overall despite the cons I would say my overall experience in the game has been worth the money spent. I look forward to seeing changes such as 1v1s being updated as well as more features. Buy the game if you can afford it and support the devs.
