Space Grunts 2 evolves the original arcade formula by introducing card-based mechanics to its roguelike dungeon crawling. Players explore dangerous alien planets, navigating floors filled with traps and loot. Combat is handled through a deck of cards representing weapons and gadgets, requiring players to think strategically about when to play their best cards. With its signature pixel art style and procedural level generation, every run offers a fresh tactical challenge.

82/100

Space Grunts 2 is a fascinating pivot from the original's action-heavy gameplay. By introducing a card-based combat system into the familiar pixel-art roguelike formula, OrangePixel has created a much more tactical experience. Instead of just twitch reactions, you’re now managing a deck of weapons, gadgets, and shields. The turn-based nature allows for a slower, more deliberate pace, which feels right at home on mobile.

What I love most is how the cards interact with the environment. It's not just about hitting enemies; it's about using your inventory to bypass traps or unlock shortcuts. The progression is satisfyingly difficult, and while a bad hand can sometimes feel like a death sentence, the 'one-more-run' loop is incredibly strong. It’s a polished, quirky, and surprisingly deep sci-fi crawler that rewards clever planning over brute force.

Fun game but currently crashing
Mon Dec 23 2019 WhyAreNoNamesAvailable

The game is entertaining and well worth the value once fixed. The card based aspect is an interesting take on rogue likes without losing the fun of exploring unique levels over and over. I have only had for two days but am stuck on one level that will crash over and over, even after reboots. I have faith that the developer will remedy quickly and have only taken one star off an otherwise perfect score.

Greatness!

Another fantastic game! Pascal is one of the few developers I would buy anything from. My whole perspective on rogue-like/shooters/perma-death was changed with his games. Heroes Of Loot & Sir Questionaire are amongst some of my all time favorites, games that I still play and have remained on my device, which is remarkable in itself ...as I constantly buy/try/play/download/delete.... I’ve always found Pascals games to be so well developed! They play so effortlessly, with controls that have been tweaked to perfection. The file size is always so compact, I just don’t know how he pulls it off:) Another really impressive thing is just how interactive he is with players, always ready to answer questions or offer advice. He genuinely wants feedback and just seems to want to offer the best experience for the player and make his games the best possible version. It’s not everyday you happen upon such a passionate and talented developer, it’s just very much noticed and appreciated by me:)

Refund

The reason I want a refund is not that I hated or didn’t enjoy but I wasn’t the one to buy it my little brother was bored to I told to get a game off the AppStore that was for free saw him downloading a game so I thought nothing of it at the time but just to make sure once he was off the phone I grabbed and checked and there it was 3.99. Again I’m not saying you don’t have to refund because of the law and whatnot but i would be so grateful if you could refund me my money

Great Gameplay, but Occasional Crashes

I love the gameplay, and anyone familiar with Slay the Spire will find this to be a nice, distinct style of play. Love the swipe to move option. The one issue is that I occasionally find the app crashes in the middle of combat. To the dev: If there’s a debug output or something I could supply I’d be happy to do that.

Great concept and playability! I love the graphics!

This game is awesome. I got it yesterday and have played a few levels in and it’s awesome! I have come across a problem with saving my game though. I can’t find any way to manually save, and if I swipe the app off of my phone, all of my progress is lost. Is there anyway to save my game so that’s can go back to it later? Other that that, it’s a great with a cool method of combat!!!

Pretty good sequel! The card aspect threw me off at first, but it definitely changes the way you have to play, in a good way. Lots of weapons and enemies to keep it fresh. I always love hearing the “Star date something something” intro at the beginning.

Great rogue-lite

I never played the original Space Grunts but SG2 does a great job of mixing up quick card based combat and rogue-lite mechanics. Game is snappy and responsive, pixel graphics are good, and gameplay is pretty addictive. Definitely recommend for the price

Great Fun

This is an excellent and pretty original roguelike. The fast paced but still turn based combat is really cool, and the card play mechanic makes for an interesting twist. I’m sure I will be spending a lot of time with this one.
