Black Book is a dark, atmospheric masterpiece that blends Slavic folklore with deck-building RPG mechanics. It is hauntingly beautiful, using a stark low-poly art style to tell the story of Vasilisa, a young sorceress seeking to revive her beloved. The writing is exceptional, pulling you into a world where every crossroad has a ghost and every choice feels heavy with consequence.
The combat system is deep and rewarding. You build your 'Black Book' with spells (pages) that interact in complex ways, requiring genuine tactical thought. But it’s the lore that really shines—the game includes an actual encyclopedia of myths that makes the world feel incredibly grounded. It is a rare, mature RPG on mobile that values atmosphere and storytelling as much as its mechanical depth. It’s an eerie, spellbinding journey that I cannot recommend enough.
Stunning atmospheric low-poly art style
Deep card-based tactical combat
Rich story based on authentic Slavic myths
Fully voiced characters and haunting soundtrack
Combine 'Orders' and 'Keys' to form your spells. Keys provide immediate effects like armor, while Orders usually deal damage over time. Balancing these is crucial for surviving longer boss fights.
As a sorceress, you can send demons to do your bidding, but this increases your 'Sin' meter. High Sin can lead to darker story outcomes and tougher interactions with villagers.
It's about a 50/50 split. The game features long narrative segments with choices that matter, interspersed with tactical card battles.
I have spent a few hours on the endless mode and try the first chapter. Here are some of my feelings. This game is promising, I see a shadow of Slay the Spire which I like. Also, the game has its own things which make the game to higher level. I like the explore mode, the medicine, assistance etc. Here are some things I don’t like. 1. The name of the graphic of the card is hard to remember. 2. The name need more optimization. I am using an iPhone 12 Pro Max which it turns hot quickly. 3. it is hard to pick the target you want to attack. 4. Sometimes the calculation of the the attack and defend especially adding a lot of buffs. I haven’t purchased the game yet, I want to see the improvements before buying it. This game is worth the money if you like this type of game.
I’ve maybe written 4 reviews for games or any app in general. However, the game only having a 1 star review (at the time of writing at least) just feels wrong. Yes, the controls might be a little different, but once you get used to then it’s not that bad. The graphics and visuals are decent. Definitely fits a style and it works well! Give the game a try, but don’t 1 star because the controls are a little funky at first.
There’s a lot of bad reviews about the controls but I have barely had any trouble. Sure the path finding is not great sometimes but I never had any real trouble. The game itself is great. The combat mechanics can be confusing at first learning what everything does, but the story kept me going right along because it’s pretty great. I haven’t finished it quite yet, but I have put many hours into it. If you are into turn based combat and decision making RPGs this is a pretty great story so far
The controls are absolutely terrible. The story is poorly written. The graphics are awful. Listen to this. In the story, the main character’s husband kills himself, but the narrator says he can’t remember why. Seems like kind of a big deal, since the rest of the story is based on her struggle to resurrect him. To control the character, you tap on the background, and she very slowly walks off in a random direction. The artwork looks like it was drawn by a child. I wish I could give this 0 stars.
I was shocked that games have such a low rating because it’s amazing! The story and atmosphere are there! Gameplay and characters are fantastic! I truly love everything about this game!
I love this game it has a phenomenal story and concept. The controls are a bit touchy which can be a little annoying but otherwise a great game!
As soon as you start up the game it asks if you want to pay to get through the pay wall to unlock 95% of the game. You get to play mech at all before you have to buy the full game and what you do get to play isn’t very fun at all. In the end just don’t get it.
Can literally buy the controller through you but yet now can’t even have the controller support stated??? That’s quite odd. Wouldn’t recommend game or site now.
