The Library of Babel is an atmospheric masterpiece that successfully blends stealth, platforming, and deep philosophical inquiry. Inspired by Jorge Luis Borges’ short story, the game presents a world 20,000 years after the extinction of humanity, now populated by advanced robots. The hand-drawn art style is breathtaking, creating a somber yet beautiful environment that feels truly ancient.
Gameplay-wise, it’s a demanding 2D platformer. The stealth sections require genuine patience, and the puzzles are integrated seamlessly into the world-building. What sets it apart is the writing; as the seeker Ludovik, you explore a library that contains everything ever written, leading to profound questions about destiny and data. It’s a slow-burn experience that rewards players who want a narrative-heavy journey alongside their platforming challenges.
Breathtaking hand-drawn environments
Deep, philosophical sci-fi story
Challenging stealth and platforming
Intricate inventory-based puzzles
Observation is key. Watch the patrol patterns of the robotic sentries. Use the environment to hide, and remember that sound is just as dangerous as sight in the Library's quiet halls.
Engage with the Library's robotic inhabitants. The branching dialogue choices often reveal critical clues for puzzles or provide lore that enriches the mystery of the extinction.
It is a spiritual and thematic expansion. It uses the concept of the infinite library as a backdrop for an original sci-fi mystery.
The concept is cool and the controls are simple. However, there are no settings to control the player character’s movement speed which leads to far too many fails and restarts. The sound will only play in ear buds on Bluetooth with no means to make it otherwise. Sound does not play while mirroring either.
Good game with good concept but 90% of the game is parkour and 98% of the parkour is grabbing ledges but the hit box for that is extremely broken it’s not even funny. My arms or my head will GO THROUGH the cliff and not even grab on. The only time it does grab on is when you already done it 15 times and at that point it’s just luck. Good game with good concept but fix the hitboxes and maybe tell people they have to play for an hour for any stealth to happen and even when it does happen ITS COMBINED WITH GARBING LEADES WITH BROKEN HITBOXES AND THAT MAKES IT TAKE LONGER BECAUSE THE GUARD WILL LOOK YOUR WAY SO YOU HAVE TO HIDE FOR ANOTHER 30 SECONDS . I’m just saying that this game isn’t even fun because of the broken hitboxes so PLEASE fix it
The story and metroidvania esque gameplay is extremely captivating and satisfying. The animation of this entire game is phenomenal and outright stunning in parts. While i have come across a few minor graphic and audio mixing bugs, the pros easily outweigh the cons. Coming from someone who rarely ever writes reviews or plays mobile games, this is a must play.
For some reason, the default is set to no music or sfx. Just go to options when you start the game and then them up — they will stay up. A nice mix of platformer, stealth game, and point-and-click adventure game. Overall gorgeous art direction in an intriguing post-human sci-fi world. Only one IAP to unlock the full game.
I love this game so far, the animation is stellar and I’m a sucker for side scrollers, however I can’t figure out how to turn up the music? I can baaarely hear it. Someone else said to go to options but there is no sound settings only touch settings. You guys should definitely add an audio tab to the settings page. Great game otherwise :)
The music button is in the settings area on the left. It should be a bit simpler, but it’s fine! This game is breathtaking so far!! The story is beyond intriguing. Really looking forward to playing more!
The game is great and polished, play it. The controls feel solid and it feels like a good game, now with the sound effects and music, FIXED, I’m all in. Thank you.
Beautiful game. However, version 1.3 has a bug that will not allow you to complete - you will get stuck, and cannot progress the game. Unfortunately, the timeline of development means that the bug will most likely not be fixed. Do not recommend
