91/100

Rise of Cultures is InnoGames' refined successor to Forge of Empires, and it manages to fix almost every pain point of its predecessor. The game is a city-builder that takes you through the history of mankind, from the Stone Age to the Industrial Revolution. What makes it special is the cultural depth; you aren't just building 'generic' houses, you're interacting with historical figures like Cleopatra, Caesar, and Einstein to advance your civilization.

The strategic combat system is a highlight, moving away from simple stat-checking to a system where unit placement and timing actually matter. The graphics are colorful and inviting, and the social aspects, like trading and alliances, are well-integrated without being forced. While it does include typical free-to-play elements like timers and loot boxes, the quality of life and the speed of progression make it feel much fairer than most games in the genre. It's easily one of the best kingdom-builders currently available.

Incredible mobile game

This is by far the best mobile game that I’ve ever played. Not only is this not a sponsored review, but I’ve never even written a review for any app or game. This game is so awesome that I just had to. Not only do you build your own culture, but you also build several allied cultures as well. You can also join an alliance where your collective goal is to build an alliance based city, to expand, and to rank to the top. I’m currently in one of the top 100 alliances which makes game play even more enjoyable. This game is very in depth and is not overly filled with ads (in fact, you don’t even need to watch any ads if you don’t want the bonus research points or resources every day). It’s also definitely not a necessary pay to play game. You can easily get all of the gems that you could realistically need by just doing the daily exploration quests. You expand your culture by conquering other cultures, trading resources that your culture creates with others who play, and by banking the resources that you have in order to expand your culture and further your cultures research. There are also pirate themed treasure hunts which are really fun. The graphics are cute too and are not glitchy at all. There are very minimal to zero time out/app freezes. Overall, this game is the best! I definitely recommend 100%!

A very good game in review just minor bugs and suggestions

Rise of cultures is a very good game that accurately reflects on what a village would look like through the eras. I am really addicted to this game and have played it almost ever since it came out. However bugs like when you put three recourses down and log out of the building quickly, and are notified that a error has occurred and logs you out makes the gameplay “buggy” and ruins the vibe with the Pangea music and all. Things like day and night cycles with weather would make the gameplay more realistic and enjoyable in my opinion rather then there always being day. Also more wonder recourses would make the gameplay more simplistic. The battles in the game are very enjoyable and fun and I really enjoy how characters look and the historical accuracy in the names and titles in the battle ground. But I would enjoy if in this next age you are making you add a new commander to help our side. And this is just something for extra but maybe you could add areas on the battlefield map that has the enemy attack you and you have to place troops to defend your city. Much similar to how the player invades the enemy’s territory and outposts you will gain or lose recourses like gold ,food ,or a lesser item that isn’t used as often from a earlier age. Again I thank you if you read this and take it into consideration. This game is wonderful and wonderfully put together. I completely understand if you don’t take any of this into consideration seeing that it takes a lot to update a games design and system. So again thank you and goodbye.

Great attention to detail and love the art style!

All of the buildings and the workers working or animals in the buildings is very fun and enjoyable to just see what’s going on in your civilization and being able to visually watch stuff change as buildings are upgraded is great to see! I think the only thing very lacking is how the combat is. It’s way to simple and it’s more or less just watching your units fight with no real way to be strategic or involve any real tactics. I think if they can fix the combat to make it feel more strategic like maybe you could give your units different types of perks to choose from before the battle so you could mix and match what could work in fights or expand how combat actually works I think this game would have a strong foundation for being one of the best games on the App Store. And also maybe the developers could add different types of events that you could do once the combat is more in depth or maybe add some form of puzzle events that you could do as well as combat events I think this game will just be insane. Also there needs to be a way to link the account to Facebook or an email so we don’t lose progress. There’s so much they could do with the foundation they have currently. Can’t wait!

Excellent game but would like a few changes

I will start with the fact that I am addicted to this game! I absolutely love that there are so many things to do in the game so it doesn’t get boring and overall you can progress well. However, as I have progressed further I have a couple things that I would love to see changed. My biggest frustration is that I’m required to have goods that I can’t even research yet. In the Minoan Age, I am required to have linen and busts to complete most of the research items starting at the beginning of the age but I can’t complete the research item I need for these until the end of the age. That means I’m stuck having to try to buy them from trading but I can’t get coins unless people buy my goods…which doesn’t seem to be happening fast! I’m fine with waiting a little bit and having to trade a couple times but it will take forever if I have to trade until the end of the age! It would be nice if those research items could be put a little closer to the time it requires us to use those goods or don’t require us to use those goods until we are able to research them. The other frustration is that I am starting to need way more food to upgrade things and to research things but I don’t have the capability to upgrade my farms to get more food due to needing to research more. This is causing me to have to spend a lot of time waiting for food to be produced. It would be great if I could either produce more food each time or need less time to produce the food. Those two things aside, I still think this game is fantastic and I just hope that I don’t get frustrated with my inability to get goods that I need to progress.

good game, but needs more features

This game stands out from other games that are like it, this game has more detail, and in my opinion, it’s funner than games like Rise of Kingdoms or Heroes of History, because it has less ads and pay to win, and more strategical battles and gameplay. But one thing you must do is often times Im just waiting for my scouts to scout out land, or to upgrade a barrack, or to expand my land, and I love this game, I wanna play for like 2 hours at a time, but it’s hard to do that without getting slightly bored so maybe add a few features to help pass the time when waiting to upgrade a building or scouting so I can have more fun, and I know you add lots of stuff like friends and Celtic or Mongol events or stuff like that but none of my friends play, and even if they did they’re wouldn’t be much to do with them and the events do not have a lot of stuff to participate in with each event, and I think you could add features like training as a Spartan, or a Samurai or a Knight in like a 3D experience as if you are an actual soldier like in the game. Or maybe a garden to grow fruits for trading, or building little trading metals. Ngl, those ideas aren’t the best but you guys are madly creative, and you could cook something up that would brighten the whole experience. Sincerely, Bobby Bobatron Jr.

Fun game, but a few MAJOR design flaws

Overall this game is well done, with a very pleasing visual design and rather intuitive play. I am very pleased at the ability to fully redesign your city at any time with the ‘stash all’ feature (oh to have this in Elvenar!) Although space is often at a premium, it forces making choices which I am okay with. It’s tough to get the extra wonders and premium buildings, but I’m patient enough to earn them. But here’s the feature that will likely drive me away from the game - trade coins. I am okay with only producing one of three goods and having to trade for the other two I need. I can also see that using ‘trade coins’ frees up the need for making balanced or unbalanced trades which causes so much frustration in Elvenar. The problem is that right now, the pool of trade coins is a LIMITED POOL. Everyone gets 750 coins when they first learn trade, and so far that’s it. The entire trade pool is limited to 750*pkayers. If someone has more than 750, it must come from someone else. Even worse, there’s an NPC merchant that REDUCES the pool if you buy from them. There is no mechanic for increasing the pool. Supposedly there will be a trade partner discount, but I’m worried the system will die before it starts taking effect. PLEASE fix the the trade coin pool before the game dies. Maybe free trade coins a day to people or bonus coins for trading?

Fun but some balancing issues!

The resource grind in this game is steep! The gold is easy to get since it’s automatic but the food! You have to run it consistently and on the most efficient short time setting to make enough food to continue while keeping up with the research and upgrading buildings. Another issue is the wonders and the amount of space you have. I love the wonders and they are great but since launch they’ve added more and we the amount of space you have doesn’t match the amount of buildings you get or are required to have. I had to purchase land tiles with gems which cost money to keep up. There are often challenges that require you to build six farms or more later in the game to continue but you probably can only run three regularly which and only have room for maybe four or five which is annoying because now they are a waste of space and you’ll need them again later for the next time that challenge happens so you can’t delete it. Suggestion: revise the amount of area we get, maybe create a way that farms can be made smaller or create a new space called the fields which have the farming space. Or just increase the area you can expand and make sure it fits building for all the event buildings. UPDATE I’m in the next era and I can’t put down more required buildings without buying more land.

Great early game, ruined by devs

(Edit:started at 5 stars, 1 removed for each edit) I’ve been playing for roughly 8 months and I really enjoy everything this game has to offer, except armies. In that time, I reached the Byzantine Era. In this era, failure of all units results in one hour of waiting to attempt again. Upgrading the Pirate Fortress decreases the wait time the most for armies (30+%) but getting upgrades are unachievable. After a year of playing I upgraded it 3/40 times! Edit: Battles with two phases are extremely difficult to win, without gems. The second phase never lets you have a full army. You go in handicapped against enemies 50% stronger than you. It’s awful! Edit: Battle Passes are ruining the game. Locking new building behind paywalls is not a fun experience. Nobody liked that. Edit: Wonders took a massive hit. If you need a legendary blueprint go grind. It will takes months to get one. The random number generator is awful, because you will never get the blueprint you are looking for. Here’s the math for a Legendary Blueprint: You need 80 orbs per Leg Blueprint at 200 parts per orb = 16,000 parts needed per orb. 15 parts times 5 a day (helping others)= 75 parts per day. Studio also gives 25 parts per day. For a total of 100 parts per day. 16,000 total parts divided by 100 parts per day equals 160 days of constant play. Or 4 months per legendary blueprint! This game is broken. Dont play it.
