Special background enabled for Valentine's Day seasonal event
Quilts and Cats of Calico is the gold standard for how to port a tabletop game to mobile. It takes the cozy, tactical gameplay of Calico and wraps it in a digital interface that is as functional as it is adorable. The 'puzzle' of fitting tiles together to satisfy both pattern and color requirements is brain-burning in the best way possible.
But the real star here is the cat customization. Being able to create a digital version of my own pet to watch me play is a stroke of genius. The campaign mode is surprisingly meaty, offering unique challenges that aren't found in the physical board game. Whether you are a hardcore strategist or just someone who likes cats and pretty patterns, this game is a cozy triumph.
Faithful board game adaptation
Dozens of adorable cats
Deeply strategic puzzle gameplay
Online and offline modes
Extensive cat customization
Select a tile from your hand and place it on your board. Try to match colors to earn buttons, or match patterns to satisfy the requirements of the cats watching your progress.
Play through a charming solo campaign to unlock new cat breeds and patterns, or take your skills online and compete against other quilters in ranked matches.
Yes! The digital version allows you to customize the look of the cats that visit your quilt.
I love the app version of calico but twice now I’ve had an online game get stuck where it is my turn but when I go to open the game it just perpetually loads and I can’t get in. Even when I close the app or restart my phone I still cannot access the game. I either have to let the game timeout and lose karma or I have to delete the game and lose karma. Besides the bugs I’d love additional master quilter challenges since I’ve completed all of them as well as the story. Overall I love the game and highly recommend, minus the occasional bugs.
We enjoy this game a lot; play both against the AI and also in multiplayer mode. But, we’re getting some hangs which are difficult to recover from. I had one in a 3 way match which I deleted - and lost 5 karma. I want my karma back! Also, I see a button for feedback rarely in the game, but can’t figure out how to surface it when I wanted to report this.
Periodically, the game just stops working — it loads the splash screen and then crashes. Only way to “fix” is to delete and reinstall, losing all progress in the story and master quilter mode. And all other settings and customization. This has happened to me five times in the last two months. Multiple other users have experienced the same bug. Developers have not even seemed to acknowledge that the problem exists. Too bad, because it is a good game and would be much more fun to play and much more worth the money I’ve already spent on it if it actually worked.
Once I got the game I was checking out the options on the title screen, so far my favorite is the cat customization option, and then I remembered that the game is about cats and quilts and that there is only a cat customization option, so I would like to know if this game could add a quilt customization feature to the game. And if this game adds this feature I would love the game 10 times more!
Gameplay is solid and game mechanics are simple to grasp. Lots to keep track of but never felt overwhelming. Story mode is a little weird - in one part there is a war in which generals need a quilt made and their uniforms have to be patched/mended by you? There’s even a guy who is missing an arm… little dark but… Ummm… K. 🤣 Overall, will playing this on many a plane and car ride, I imagine. Nice job!
Love the board game and the love the convenience of the online version. There’s three goals: meet your design challenges, collect buttons, and attract cats. At first it felt like a lot to keep track of, but once I got the hang of it it’s exhilarating. Great strategy game which just enough luck to keep it novel. If you like Azul or other tile-laying games this is a shoo-in.
Been waiting for this, checking every day if it had been released published yet. One of the best board games of all time and monster couch did such a brilliant job of translating it into steam. I knew this would be a winner and it did not disappoint.
The game is wonderful when I can get into the game to play. The graphics and game play are wonderful. There are several different challenges and ways to play. However, it repeatedly crashes and will not allow me to even get into the game or drops. I have deleted and reinstalled the game losing all my progress. Not worth the cost until these issues are fixed.
