Preserve is a masterpiece of minimalist game design. It’s rare to find a game that manages to be this relaxing while still offering a complex, rewarding strategic core. Building out the biomes tile-by-tile feels incredibly tactile, and seeing the first animals migrate to a forest you just created is a genuine 'wow' moment. The hexagonal grid is used brilliantly here, allowing for organic-looking landscapes that are a joy to look at.
The sound design deserves its own award—the gentle ambient tracks and nature sounds create an atmosphere that actually lowered my heart rate. It’s the perfect antidote to the high-stress, high-speed games that dominate the market. Whether you're trying to hit a high biodiversity score in Harmony Mode or just building a beautiful mountain range in Creative Mode, Preserve feels like a warm hug for your brain.
Procedural Tile System
Beautiful Minimalist Art
Relaxing Atmospheric Audio
Endless Creative Mode
Place Forest tiles next to Water tiles to create a 'Lush Grove'. This special biome is the only place where the rare Deer species will spawn.
If you have too many predators, the herbivore population will vanish. Ensure you have at least three Grassland tiles for every one Mountain (Predator) tile.
In 'Harmony Mode', you win by reaching a specific biodiversity score. In 'Creative Mode', you can build indefinitely.
I love the classic mode and puzzle mode. Though, and maybe it’s me, but I can’t get super far into the puzzles without getting stuck. But the puzzles help with classic gameplay. The game is relaxing, and I can play for hours. The tiles make it feel like I’m looking for patterns, and my ADHD riddled me and loves it. I also love that the different biomes offer new challenges. The only thing I would change is the need to pay for the other biomes beyond the one you start with in the game. It would be great to have the opportunity to “win” a new biome if you make it through a certain number of classic gameplay levels per biome.
Been playing this game with my 4 year old son, and with my wife. I have made it my mission to show them the wonders in each biome once I manage to unlock them. It’s been fun and a pleasure. However, I’m running into an issue with the wonders in the marine biome. I have allotted the appropriate tiles to host each of the wonders, but every time I place the wonders on to the tiles all I get is a green highlighted area. I can’t place the wonders in the habitats. I’ve looked online for some fixes, and all I’ve managed to find is another post on Reddit from yesterday from someone running into the same issue. It’s been driving me bonkers I can’t figure it out. This is a desperate plea for help. I have never once left a review on any apps before, but this game has caused me to venture out and leave a desperate cry for help in the guise of a review. Pls help.
The whole game idea is awesome and it works quite well. The only things that need some tweaking are the touch gestures. When I got and add a new area/terrain and try to spin it, it will spin it but put the block somewhere else instead of where I had it originally. I just go ahead and click back where I want it and it will be in the right orientation. No biggie. Zooming in/out is not very smooth. Same with panning around. Besides that, everything has been working great so far and I spent a solid couple of hours on my first session just truly enjoying the game and the graphics.
Love the game but there is an issue with the latest expansion. The glacier and glacier stream terrain modifications are supposed to spread snow to neighboring tiles, which they do, but when more snow is placed on dirt tiles by hand or a land expansion is added, the tiles connected to a glacier or glacier stream automatically melt into grass. They continue to revert to grass if the player adds snow to them again. After this update, all of my high scores are gone and the game doesn't add new ones when I replay levels.
I overall think it’s a great game but 1 problem I keep encountering on iOS is you cannot place natural wonder in the marine life , it simply will not place I even connected my Xbox controller to see if that would work but it did not . I’m glad they updated it to be able to rotate items such as the terrain on the Dinosaur one . Would be 5 stars if the bug was fixed i mentioned. It’s great besides that I have spent many nights staying up beating my previous scores and figuring out what I can do to out do it .
This is a very fun and relaxing game! The different loads are fun to play around with. The puzzle mode is a fun challenge, the creative mode is fun to mess around in, and the regular mode is a great mix of the two. Of course, I have some critiques. The first issue that I noticed, as I play on a mobile device, is that the creative mode is designed for computers, and not touchscreen devices. This should be a simple fix for the devs, all you should need to do to fix this is to have two different modes for different devices. My other criticism is that players only have free access to one biome. I believe that the game would be even more fun if the score system allowed players to unlock new biomes after reaching a certain score in the first biome. However, It would also make sense to have special biomes (maybe seasonal) that are not available unless you purchase them. It just doesn’t make sense for the majority of the biomes to be with purchase only. Overall, this is a great game! I am excited to see where it goes!
I’ve only played for an hour or so, but so far I’m enjoying it enough to pay for the extra terrain packs. Peaceful and pretty. The only issue I have is that some of the details are hard to make out on a phone-size screen, so might be difficult for players with vision problems unless playing on a tablet. I’ll probably end up switching to my tablet to play this game so I don’t have to squint.
I bought the marine biome and I really like it! It's super cute and cozy and I like the concept. The only thing I wish for right now is for an option to lower the altitude of certain blocks, like how you can increase their height I wish you could also have an option to decrease blocks. Especially since certain habitats like the octopus one need low altitudes, it's difficult to have enough space for those. Overall so far I'm having a good experience and I will keep playing.
