Our Expert Score

93/100

Monopoly on mobile is exactly how a digital board game should be. It perfectly translates the classic 'friendship-ending' gameplay into a sleek, automated package that eliminates the tedium of counting money and moving pieces. The 3D city is vibrant and full of life, and the ability to customize house rules (like getting money for landing on Free Parking) makes it feel like your own kitchen-table game.

The matchmaking is smooth, and the 'Quick Mode' is a godsend for mobile play, ensuring a game doesn't drag on for three hours. But the real star is the 'Pass & Play' mode—it's the ultimate travel companion for families. It captures all the strategy and negotiation of the physical version while adding a layer of polish that makes the traditional board feel obsolete. It's the definitive way to play Monopoly in the modern age.

Monopoly - A Very Fun Game.
Sat Jul 30 2022 The Game Feedbacker.

This game is my favorite game. I’ve liked the traditional board game ever since I was young. The board game is very fun to play with family and friends. I think that it’s very convenient to have a digital version of the board game on the App Store, that’s why I bought the game on the App Store with my money! For them to have finally make it easy for us to just enjoy the game without actually setting the game up with the traditional board game is pretty convenient. My aunt always says that I take up too much space setting up the traditional in-hand board game and always told us to play outside where the wind will then blow all the money away, and then we’d have to run to retrieve the money on the ground. Until, she suggested me to just buy the digital game on the App Store. Although I really like the digital version of the game, I still want my own, in-hand monopoly board game since the one I always use belongs to my uncle. Very great and convenient game. Though, I’d suggest the developers of the digital monopoly board game to add digital rewards in the game every time you win a match. I’d also want the developers to allow us to see our statistics that we and other users can view such as how many loses and wins we have in total. Maybe even have a statistics of how much rent we paid and earned. Overall, it’s a very entertaining game when it comes to playing with friends and family.

Fun game, but lots of freezing and cheaters
Mon Aug 07 2023 Thisissuperman

This is an amazing game and it’s the only game I play on my iPad. I’ve been playing this game since the pandemic hit. Here are a few fixes that can greatly improve the online game play: 1 - Players Bank Accounts should be hidden. 2 - The online game needs a mandatory time limit. When players are losing they purposely slow the game down. 3 - $1 trades need to be rejected there should be mandatory minimum fixed amounts 4 - Train stations on the orange and red side overcharge. This has been going on since I’ve had this game (they fixed the glitch) 5 - The in-game chats are great but there should be a kick a player out option for those players that are slowing the game down or cheating. Then have their properties auctioned off. 6 - A social feature to play or host a game with friends would be great (Facebook link or phone contacts that have the game) 7 - when the game is frozen it seems like it’s frozen on one specific player. I think it would help to add in another chat button that says “Everyone Please Refresh Your Game it’s Frozen” or a refresh button this will help solve the frozen game issues instead of forcing players to just quit. 8 - The game will freeze every now and then but players have no idea what to do. For me I switch on app manager and go back to the game without quitting. This always fixes the game. like I stated above “REFRESH” chat option to let the player that’s frozen would really help these freezing issues. Or the ability for remaining players to dismiss a frozen. Update August 2023: I’m no longer able to log in.

The Octopus
Sat Jul 10 2021 Aesith

tl;dr: great game, good ghost story, dice feel weighted at times. The game itself is alright, at times however it feel like the computer controlled pieces are using weighted dice but this is somewhat remedied by the user being able to go back to the main menu and rejoin the single player game thereby getting a new chance to roll. Beyond that the game plays fine and looks great, I find the board skins and tokens to be a bit pricey to buy but are wholly unnecessary. Now then, the octopus. Why is it this review’s title? When this particular token wins the game and is spinning on the victory screen - the metal reflects what appears to be the scene of a long and empty room with a window at the far end and an open doorway on the left, this room is either abandoned or under construction/renovation as it is devoid of anything, even appearing as to have unfinished sheetrock on the walls. As far as I can tell no other token has this unsettling reflection which begs the question: why? Why does just the octopus appear to have this reflection when no other pieces seem to? Why is this room so empty and in disrepair? Is this the room we play monopoly in in this app? If so, are we - in this app, forced to play monopoly? By whom? What’s the prize for winning? What happens to the three losers? Will there ever be a time when these damned souls are released from this Hasbro-inspired purgatory? Is this where the souls trapped in the ouija boards are sourced from? The public demands answers, Marmalade!

Could have been the best game available

I am downgrading my review because even though the game is super fun and addictive, there is some major issues that after reading about them on other reviews, I have unfortunately confirmed for myself. The biggest for me is being in the middle of a game, and it suddenly freezing with no one able to play because of connection issues. It is too common and annoying, especially when already having multiple properties with houses and hotels. When this happens all players hope that it will unfreeze but nothing happens and we eventually quit the game, which is very upsetting and frustrating. The players don’t even receive any notifications that the game is attempting to fix connection or anything! It will just freeze on a player and all you can do is listen to that same annoying music while looking at the board unable to do anything!! I suggest automatically kicking that player so we can continue with the game, because all other players are still playing. The other issue which I have also confirmed is no record tracking, so you don’t know how many wins or losses you have. As well as not winning any prizes when you win a game. I think that would be a nice touch, to be able to unlock new characters and boards to use in-game, instead of having to buy them, which can be pretty pricey. Please fix these issues immediately!!!!!!!! because I really enjoy playing this game. Until then I will leave my downgraded rating of 3 stars, which is kind because I am considering even lower. Thank You, and I hope these issues are resolved.

A Game that Should Be Great
Thu Aug 31 2023 Doctorweez

This game should easily be 5 stars. It looks amazing, it’s got great visuals and animations, the controls and interface are fantastic, and it has great pacing. There’s just one big problem that makes it very frustrating to play. When you play against AI set to Medium or Hard difficulty, your rolls are sabotaged. I’m Easy mode, players all hit spaces with the same random likelihood and the AI players will just accept almost any trade you make them, making it easy to win. In Medium mode and higher, rather than making the AI more intelligent with their decisions, the game just makes your rolls extremely unlikely to be good, which is not a fun way to increase the difficulty at all. At the start of the game, you will almost always either hit a space that is owned or you will hit community chest. The AI players will often have 5-7 properties before you get the opportunity to buy even one, so there is almost no way to catch up, and the AIs will freely trade each other color sets constantly. Also, I hit Income Tax probably 5-6 times per game. Seriously, keep track of your games and you will realize you hit Income Tax at a much, much higher rate than any other space on the board. It’s a beautifully designed game that should be a blast to play, but the odds are clearly stacked against you which makes it not much fun, unfortunately.

Been playing for 2 months…
Tue Jan 03 2023 Ipoder75

I have been playing this game for just about two months now and I can honestly say that the frustration is outweighing the fun. Other people reporting that there is nothing random about the dice rolls are 100% correct, in my experience. I’ve played dozens of single player games since buying this and I notice the exact same patterns that others are reporting. I don’t mind losing a fair game, that’s part of the fun. I’m also not saying that the AI makes you lose every game. But it does feel like a good number of games you just see the AI sail past multiple blocks of properties you own, not just once but over and over. Only once you lose all your houses and are bordering on bankruptcy do they start landing on your property. This happens quite frequently. I have I’ve seen developer feedback back to this on other reviews and they say, we would never intentionally want the player to have a negative experience. I believe them, but I also wish they would take another look at the single player AI, algorithms. whatever you want to call it, because there is a balancing issue and it’s ruining the experience, at least for me. Again, nothing wrong with losing, it’s what makes winning fun. But when you’re losing to the same recurring patterns and it gets to a point where you can predict the AI rolls, that’s just not fun. I hope the developers read this and consider the feedback as I will continue playing the game in hopes that changes are made.

Addictive but flawed

From a design perspective the game is very good. I like the customizability of the options like not having to do auctions or getting 400 if you land on Go itself. If you play single player mode against the machine, here is what you can expect. You will go around the board very slowly the first one or two times while the other three players jump ahead 7 to 11 spaces at a time buying up all the properties ahead of you. You will land on chance, community chest, free parking, every place except the properties that you want to buy. When you do eventually collect a color group and try to build houses or hotels there, expect other pieces to land on the space in the middle of your properties or land just beyond them. You have to wonder how random the dice rolls are. There are difficulty options, which is far as I can tell just affect how willing the other pieces are to make trades with you. When it’s not your turn, you can see them freely making deals with each other, but when it’s your turn, expect to have to pay 200 over face value to buy any property while they assemble groups right away. If you can’t get a group going right away and build on it, you will be wiped out quickly. You will find yourself mortgaging everything and selling your house off right away as the other pieces build quickly.

Great but stuff needs fixed

Been playing this game in almost all my free time for a week and love it, but there are a couple things that bug me a lot. The first one being my game doesn’t always save. A majority of the time when this happens, it’s just my most recent turn that doesn’t save, but there have been a couple times when I started over a new game because I didn’t want to wait around 5-20 minutes to get bankrupted only for the new game I start to not save at all and I’m back to the old one I just quit. Another thing is it’s very annoying when an AI tries to make the exact same trade every turn. They’ll try and get me to trade something for the same property and same amount of money so many times in a row even though I keep hitting reject trade. Also it seems like the AI’s work together sometimes against me instead of working for themselves. One AI will accept a stupid trade just so another AI can get a monopoly to put houses on. Like the first AI will give another AI one of the good monopolies in exchange for something like a second railroad and $50. Why? These are the only real complaints I have about these games but otherwise I do like it a lot. I have played many hours already in the week I have it. Worth the money but I hope at least the game being saved properly will be fixed soon.
