Legend of Grimrock is a beautiful love letter to classic dungeon crawlers like Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder. It manages to capture that old-school sense of dread and discovery while modernizing the interface and visuals. Navigating Mount Grimrock’s grid-based halls feels tactical and dangerous, as every step could lead to a trap or a group of hungry giant spiders.
The puzzles are the real standout here. They aren't just 'find the key' chores; they require genuine observation and logic. Managing your party’s resources and positioning in real-time combat adds a layer of tension that keeps you on edge. It’s a challenging game that doesn’t hold your hand, making every level cleared feel like a massive accomplishment. For RPG fans who want a deep, atmospheric, and rewarding dungeon-crawling experience, this is the gold standard on iPad.
Classic grid-based movement and exploration
Tactical real-time combat system
Intricate puzzles and hidden secrets
Deep character customization and skills
Atmospheric dungeon environment
Place your melee fighters in the front two slots and your mages or ranged characters in the back. Your back row cannot be hit by most melee attacks but can still cast spells.
To cast spells, your mage must select specific runes in the correct order. Keep a notebook handy or memorize common patterns to cast quickly during combat.
Legend of Grimrock is specifically designed for the larger screen of the iPad to accommodate the interface.
I’ve been playing LOG since it first came out. Once I go through the entire game, I put it aside for a few years, then come back and play it all over again. I’m coming up on my 66th birthday, having played D&D using graph paper and very ordinary excited die starting when I was 17 in the 1970s. My one frustration with this game is realizing that the puzzles that rely on speed and the ability to slide back-and-forth are almost beyond my ability now. Currently, I’m stuck begging my 23-year-old youngest to puhleze help me out here. The graphics are solid, the limited number of species and archetypes within the party are pretty much in keeping with the origins of the genre. There are a lot of different types of enemies and a lot of really confusing and challenging puzzles. My only suggestion to those who are new to LOG is save *a lot*, hoard your potions as much as possible (even if it means reloading the game), enjoy the escargot and, have fun by not racing through to the end.
Played on normal because it said suitable for most players and I wanted some challenge. By level two, the monsters were killing entire party with a couple hits. It went from zero to ninety and I was still learning how to play! Tutorial doesn’t really get in detail on spell casting with mages and there is who separate menu for selecting spells. Also, really easy to pull up character menu in middle of fight instead of selecting fight icon. I looked up tips and everyone said you had to side fight monsters in open spaces. Not easy to do on iPhone with buttons that pull up player detail screens in middle of fight. I am not a hard core gamer but thought an RGP game could be fun. Characters are too weak to take on deadly monsters and if you don’t know how to run and fight on bad controls, you are done. Do not buy this game unless you are experienced gamer really familiar with strategies required in maze fighting. Shame, I did like first level, but after twenty plus tries, I give up. Not something for a casual gamer just wanting to build characters to match level challenges. I looked up other reviews and people were saying Easy level gets you a little more easier play but not for long and monsters will still be super hard on higher levels. I won’t find out because I am taking it off my phone before I throw it against the wall.
Okay so I love this game a lot! The only bad things are... I wish there we e a few more class and race choices. You could split the different classes into smaller ones like the fighter having an archer, a warrior and a juggernaut the archer could be quick on his feet the warrior could be average, and etc. I also wish that there was an arena or something and definetlu different dungeons with different themes. Like one being a steampunk one the other bieng a froz n ice one and another bieng a jungle one. Also random map generation would definatlwy improve the aspect of restarting. Another class idea is the Mage bieng split up into-healer-offensive-defensiv-and support. I think this game should be on the editors choice or if u add some of the stuff me and other people have asked for maybe you could get on best new updates. You should also add a crafting thing to it it and maybe, just maybe, you could add a way that if you follow the game and finish it you can go back to town And buy stuff and enter new dungeons to get gold or find the person that accused you
in a graph dungeon, guide 4 characters through dangerous encounters and puzzles. some of the ways out of levels (puzzles) require patience but they're not nonsense or trivial, especially if you decipher the clues carved into the rocky walls. characters are unique with stats skills & gear that change as you like just like pen-on-paper. if you're fed up with bad games and have ever liked anything about pnp roleplay &or dungeon crawling (even action rpg like diablo or torchlight 2) delete all the junk with IAP & no heart off your phone and play Legend of Grimrock! i couldn't recommend it more highly if you're someone looking for a fulfilling meaningful & challenging-but-never-stupidly-so mobile gaming experience.
So, to start out with, I love this game. Absolutely phenomenal gameplay and graphics, and it all runs smoothly. I love the game and have for years now. However, back when I played on an iPad when it first came out, I remember unlocking Toorum mode. This elevated the game to a whole new level. It was similar but so different, and felt like a whole new game. So, when I recently started playing again, I was excited to unlock Toorum mode. I found the secret that unlocks it, held Toorums Remains up to the crystal of life, and….. nothing. It doesn’t work on an iphone. I can’t find any way to solve this problem and it was really disappointing that it hasn’t been fixed yet (I found a post from 2015 with the same problem). I know it worked at some point, so I hope it’s just a bug that could be fixed fairly easily, but I am very sad that my favorite mobile game was missing my favorite game mechanic.
First I thought i find the best game. I was wrong. Don’t waste your time. I played on easy and after the 3rd level it became very hard. I lost interest. Giant mushrooms, never wanna die, it takes long time to kill them and after a tons of soldiers and double arrow guys with poisoned arrows. Im not saying it’s impossible to make this level but no more adventure at this point only endless fights. I feel like its a waste of time. Other part of this level has a lot of slime. It took me half day to figure it out how to kill them. I just don’t care anymore. My interest went from 100-0. Even its on easy setting its too hard. I started the whole thing over from the first level, because at first i feed them too much I was out of food so fast. I Feel like they created a great game but they don’t test it enough. Next time. Not worth the money. Don’t believe for the 5 star reviews, probably they played the first level only. The first 3 levels are 5 star and then 0. So disappointed.
This is an excellent old-school *Sign in to Game Center* dungeon crawler. If you are looking for a huge dungeon game with tons of puzzle, hidden secrets, and monsters, and you like to be constantly bugged to sign in to Game Center, then this game is for you. The puzzles are tough enough to get you thinkings, but *Sign in to Game Center” have enough hints to be solvable. The graduation of *Sign in to Game Center* monster difficulties is well-matched *Sign in to Game Center* to the player XP progression, resulting in some very challenging foes that will generally fall to appropriately clever tactics. Plus, you have many, many, opportunities to sign in to Game Center. In fact, tolerating the nonstop Game Center nag screens is the most difficult task of this game.
I was enjoying this game on my iPad, util level 5, Chamber of Pits. This room requires you to execute a perfectly timed sequence of 16 or so moves and jumps. This one room is notoriously hard on a desktop computer, but it's broken on the iPad. The iPad movement controls are simply not precise enough to get through this room. Between the lag, and the touch control inaccuracies, the room is impassable; which means the level is impassable, which means game over. Life is too short to spend hours in one room doing the same finger dance hundreds of times in level 5 of what is supposed to be a 13 level dungeon crawler. L.O.G. on iPad at least needs a patch to slow down these dexterity/choreography tests. The devs could make it optional, for those masochists with tiny baby fingers playing on the fastest, newest devices.
