A brand new Kryss update!
- Earn more prizes
- New puzzles!
- Lots of improvements!
Kryss: The Battle of Words is the shot in the arm that the digital crossword genre desperately needed. By turning the solitary experience of a crossword puzzle into a competitive, turn-based battle, it creates a sense of urgency and social interaction that is incredibly addictive. The 'five letters per turn' mechanic is brilliant; it forces you to think about word placement and bonus opportunities rather than just knowing the clues.
The one-minute time limit adds a perfect level of pressure, turning what is usually a slow-paced hobby into a tactical sprint. I particularly appreciate the social features—the ability to chat with friends or challenge random opponents makes every victory feel personal. The game is also a great tool for vocabulary expansion, making it one of those rare apps that is both fun and genuinely educational. With daily new content from expert crossword makers, it never feels stale.
Two-player turn-based crosswords
Dynamic 1-minute time limit
In-game chat with friends
New puzzles added daily
Global matchmaking and leaderboards
Don't just look for the obvious words. Try to use all five of your letters in a single turn to earn a significant point bonus. If you're stuck, guess based on common letter patterns—every correctly placed letter counts toward your total score.
Players take turns on the same crossword board. You have 60 seconds to place your 5 letters. Seeing your opponent's moves allows you to build off their words or block their potential high-scoring spots.
Yes, you can play against the game's AI, 'Kryss,' to practice your skills before challenging real players.
I have playing this game for years and occasionally there have been aa few minor glitches. The person that I play against regularly sends me requests for new games which I accept and life is good. However, this week he messaged me and asked if I was giving up because I didn’t accept his new game requests. The problem is I didn’t receive any requests. So I sent him a request and he also didn’t receive it. We are now out of games and can start any new ones. PLEASE FIX ASAP WOULD BE 5 stars except for this problem
Update: The Kryss team reached out to me and took care of the situation. Things are working well again. Thank you! I love playing Kryss, however over the last several weeks the app repeatedly closes mid game. I have tried to report the issue, go through all the steps, click on the contact button and receive a message that the link is not available. Super frustrating to not be able to report an issue or get help. The constant app closing makes me not want to play the game. :(
I’ve been a daily player since the game first started. But here the last week or so, it’s been too glitchy to even play. It shows me defaulting on games because it isn’t showing me it’s my turn, and because of that, it’s dropped my score from like 1700+ down to 1500+ and I am not happy about it. Especially since I pay for a monthly membership and all that as well. Or when it does let me play my turn, it shows as my opponent’s turn, but notifications will tell me it’s my turn, and then when I do open the game, it might show 0 minutes, and then every time I play my turn, it doesn’t stick. And I have to keep playing the same turn
I actually love playing this game and being able to challenge friends and strangers alike, however, I’m not entirely sure how to gain boards to keep playing. After winning so many games I stopped earning boards and so did my friends and family so we were eventually forced to stop playing. I hate that the game isn’t ongoing unless you pay, but I guess it’s only meant to be enjoyed for a set period of time.
I’ve had the game for years and really enjoy it. I’ve always been fine with the ads because that’s how they get compensated. However, recently, there have been random pop-up ads that appear in the middle of a timed game that cover more than half of the screen (not an interrupted video ad but one that covered the board in real-time). I even considered paying for the $15/month subscription even though that’s steep for a game that’s not played frequently. Still, the way these particular ads pop up make me question the company’s priorities.
It’s been a great game to keep my brain engaged and thinking while also having friendly competition between family members and myself. With that being said the pop up adds are covering my boards a lot of the time anymore, sometimes 2-3 in a row and using up all my time before I can play my turn. It’s very frustrating… making me think of switching word games to another app
Since there is no help or contact button on the game, and when I go to the App Store to contact you, but those links don’t work, i have no choice but to leave my issue as a review. It takes me between 10 and 30 times to access this game. It will immediately drop out after I click the cancel button because I don’t want to connect to Facebook, or it will partially load and then drop, or it will fully load and not stay stable and will then drop out. Please address this issue!
At first this game seemed appealing as I like crosswords and love scrabble. I was soon very disappointed because it has become “luck of the last letters” is the winner. There should be multiple of every letter and not only what is available on the board. Some people save the bonus letter until their last turn which makes for an easy win. Using all your letters should add a bonus score, not just plus 1 for each letter. You can place 90% of the letters and still lose which is crazy and a huge design flaw.
Kryss is the new, highly addictive game that lets two players test each other's imagination and vocabulary.
