Gossip Harbor is a masterclass in the merge-2 genre, seamlessly blending addictive puzzle mechanics with a surprisingly gripping narrative. Following Quinn as she returns to her hometown to rebuild her father’s burned-down restaurant, the game keeps you hooked not just through the merging, but through a constant stream of dramatic revelations and local scandals. It’s essentially a playable soap opera that rewards your organization skills with the next piece of a juicy mystery.
The gameplay loop is incredibly polished. Unlike many merge games that feel cluttered, Gossip Harbor’s item chains—ranging from coffee and sandwiches to coastal delicacies—feel logical and satisfying to complete. The sense of progression is tangible as you watch the dilapidated shack transform into a high-end eatery. While the energy system can be a bit of a bottleneck during long play sessions, the frequent events and character interactions ensure there is always a reason to check back in. It is easily one of the most engaging casual titles on the App Store today.
Engaging character-driven storyline
Satisfying merge-2 puzzle mechanics
Beautiful restaurant renovation options
Regular limited-time events and rewards
Focus on clearing the webbed items first. These restricted spaces are key to expanding your board and increasing your merging efficiency in the early stages of the restaurant renovation.
Complete customer orders displayed at the top of the screen to earn gold and story stars. Higher-level items like the Seafood Platter require multiple levels of merging but yield the highest rewards.
Energy refills automatically over time, but you can also earn it by completing daily tasks, watching rewarded ads, or purchasing it with gems.
Overall, this game is great, and so is the story. That being said, I need to say: 1. The pop ups before getting to play the game are nothing but annoying; I can’t do anything and I need to close out about 5 tabs in a row, with a buffer period in between. 2. The Photo Albums Events. It’s incredibly difficult to complete these albums. I never finish the whole book, ever. It’s essentially impossible, and I almost always get duplicates. I end up completing only about 3 or 4 out of about 15+? Or so? It’s not a very interesting event thanks to the rarity of these photos. I play another game where the rewards are far more substantial entirely for free, and I get stories behind each completed photo (each piece is a fragment). In that one, I complete about 10 or more out of 15+? Around that range. It’s much more entertaining. 3. It takes too long to upgrade coffee machines, bread makers, etc.. It’s too expensive to buy fish with diamonds, only for them to sell for much, much, much less. With my grievances finally being voiced, I can say the story is entertaining, the decorations are usually fairly nice, and I like that you can detect when a reward ad fails and you make up for it by giving us stamina. Side note, I think we should be allowed to drag orders up to customers to give it to them rather than only being able to press “Serve” (I want to be able to do both). Anyway, cool game.
This game is really fun for what it offers. You don’t ever need to spend money to advance. You’ll advance a lot slower when it comes to generating items you need because the energy runs out, but just wait it out a few hours and you’ll be able to get your orders completed. The generators are random when it comes to certain materials you need, so it’ll take a while to get certain mats like tea to make the pitcher of tea. The tea comes from the coffee generator and you’ll never get tea mats 100% of the time, so it takes patience to play this game without spending money. So no, you don’t need money to progress, money will help you progress at a faster rate but it’s not always 100% to get items you need. The only thing I find rather irritating is when the build events come up for certain seasons or holidays, where you can win amounts of currency to buy little concessional items for decorations and then you can ultimately buy the center piece of the event that costs the most currency for that particular event. It used to be where you can buy ANY decoration including the center piece at any time, just so as long as you have enough event currency. Now you can’t buy any item anymore, you are now forced to buy TIERED items in a one row then it’ll unlock the next row of tiered items you have to buy all of before getting to the last row with the biggest decorational items. It’s really a bummer they went to this unlocking method. If you don’t get enough currency before the event ends, you’ll lose out on the best decor for the event. If you have the FOMO, you’ll probably spend money to buy the energy for it. Change it back please thanks!
Except for when they have the card collection event because their algorithm doesn’t work correctly. They keep trying to explain it to me as if I don’t understand even though I provide them with plenty of proof to show that it’s consuming 101 stars EVEN though I have enough cards with stars to make it an even 100 stars to receive a gift. It’s frustrating when you have enough to get 3 gifts yet you can’t because of this issue. I wish I could provide screenshots to show everyone EXACTLY what I mean. The story also started off great but as you progress further and further the attention to detail really falls off. Constant grammar issues as well as missing context for certain scenes. But don’t worry they just want you to tell them exactly what’s wrong with it instead of doing their job and fixing/ figuring it out themselves, even though you provide them with screen shots of these issues. Where is the quality assurance with this game?? Really frustrated with this because it’s a bunch of little things that pile up over time. I just want them to actually care about the app and show it in their work and caring for the consumers who play this game by providing bug fixes instead of adding a new theme. Send out a gift even to all players who’ve been playing this game as a way of saying sorry about this bug instead of gaslighting their clients into thinking they don’t know how to add numbers together.
So it’s a really good game and pretty similar to the ads. So there is the divorced mother and the daughter renovating their home/restaurant with merging things to make orders. With that there is a storyline that’s pretty interesting. A lot of people were like how it’s not like the ads but I thought about it and while it’s not exactly like the ads it’s really similar and has a similar concept. They are right about the no ads part. And it other games it’s nearly impossible to get more energy when it’s empty but you get energy as you level up and you can merge energy to refill all your energy. And you can watch a ad for 15 energy. You can also pay 10 gems for full energy again. And my favorite part. GEMS ARE EASY TO GET. I don’t have to worry about using up all my gems because I can just merge to get more! Like I literally get 10 gems daily and that’s how good it is. I’ve downloaded so many games similar to this but I haven’t found one that lets you get energy and gems so easily. And you have probably seen the ad that says you get a starter bonus? Yeah but it’s for every level!!!!!! Can you believe it lol. So anyway you should definitely give this game a try and write a review because this game is honestly so underrated.
I must say I was super disappointed by the misleading ads that lead me to this game. I did end up liking it after all and forgot about the super misleading ads that had lead me there. So I did leave a good review below. I recently, years later, started playing a game with frequent ads and saw the ones for this game again. SUPER misleading. The game shown in the ads is entirely different than the one you end up playing here. The funny thing is, one of their ads even starts out that way… Saying how "most games are not the way they look in the ads, but this one is different." It's not! The only similarities in storyline is there is a blue haired mother and a daughter of around 5 or 6. That is it! So if you want a "help people" kind of game I suggest Tile Family, it's a little closer to that. But like I said I did end up liking this game. Soooo Original review: still true: O love the characters and storyline that goes with the merge puzzles and occasional “mini games “ that are gratifying because you are helping someone. I love the setting as well, a huge harbor inn with lots of remodeling opportunities. Super fun and not really stressful which I appreciate. Also you can continue playing for free and not have to spend money to progress, unless you’re in a hurry to do so. The merge puzzles involve serving the characters in the game various beverages/foods/beach items, etc. , as well as there being interesting “events” on the side. Overall a fun game, hopefully it stays that way after the recent update lol.
So obviously this game isn’t at all like what the adds say, even the previews are misleading until the last three or so. With that being said, I downloaded it under the impression the game was what was being shown in the adds, and to my frustration, it clearly wasn’t. However it is still a good game, I came for one game and ended up staying for another. It’s pretty fun and i’ve had this game for a while now. The plot so far is good, it has good story building so far, however there are some downsides again. One, you won’t really excel at this game unless you give in and pay up, I have yet to spend money but if you don’t you just spend a lot of time waiting, whether it be for more energy or a lot of other stuff. Second, whenever it has those events for a themed space, it’s really unfair how much time they give you, especially for those that can’t spend money on this game. You can only really complete it if you spend every waking hour playing it AND spend money on it. And worst of all, the time frame is the only chance you get, there’s no coming back to it or nothing so you’re just left with a half empty done lot because you either A. didn’t have enough time and or B. have enough money. I’m still salty about being misled and all of the obvious money grabs but I still play it for now, this review was to provide some insight for everyone else. ☺️
I like this game a lot but it's so hard to continue as you get higher. You have to spend maybe 300 energy to have a merge and it makes no sense. They want you to pay for it in order to continue. I used to buy some stuff but I realized how much money I spent and I am a student, working to pay for my school so it's literally a way for you to spend and you dont even know it. Like all those 2.99s make $20 in a few days and you dont even know it. They are very sneaky too like some items produce specific items randomly and the app knows that you are waiting for that item so they make sure to not give you that. It's all a scam and I dont like playing a game made by people like that. It's very sinister. Also, if you spend 10 emeralds to buy 100 energy, then have to spen 20 emeralds to get another 100, then you have to spend 40 emeralds to get 100. It's almost like they dont want you to play unless you pay extra money and I hate that. Wouldnt you get more money if you were more giving and people could play your game more? Like imagine. Because I cant continue after 4-5 mins, I stop and I log out. But if you were gifting me extra emeralds or energies etc, I'll stay and play your game for at least 10 mins etc and maybe I'd want to buy some. Because I know that buying something wont make a huge change in the way I play the game, I dont buy anything. It's such a hard game like there is no way you can play it more than 5 mins without buying extra extra stuff. I will delete it because I dont enjoy it anymore.
The actual merge portion of the game is fun enough and some of the limited-time events are also enjoyable (I like the ones that involve a separate board where you have to merge items unique to the event), but there is an annoying amount of shoving the various paid options of the game down your throat. The main reason I give it a middle of the road rating, however, is that while the gameplay itself is pretty fun, the storyline is agonizingly awful. The characters are largely unlikeable and the plot is seemingly convoluted and dragged out for the sheer sake of being convoluted and dragged out. Characters go on and on about how great of a natural detective the main character is, for no other reason that I can see beyond that she occasionally asks the people around her questions like, “where were you when my restaurant was sabotaged?” And then does absolutely NO research to confirm anyone’s alibi..? To be clear, a story doesn’t need to be realistic to be fun. But I find this story neither realistic nor fun. And so so much of it is absolutely wasted on the world’s most mediocre love triangle, a plot line I truly and deeply wish I could opt out of. All I want is to fix up the buildings and merge the items and maybe occasionally hear from a character or two about the current mystery, but I have to slog through chapter after chapter of the world’s okayest mom & detective waffling between the two most milquetoast men in town and occasionally remembering to wonder who’s threatening her and her business. But the cat looks like mine and his name is Coconut so no notes on that front.
