Chapter 3 of Fran Bow is arguably the most imaginative and visually stunning part of the entire series. Moving away from the typical horror tropes, this chapter transports Fran to the land of Ithersta, a vibrant world where time and seasons are controlled by the player. The shift in tone—from dark psychological horror to high-concept fantasy—is executed flawlessly, showing the versatility of the developers.
The logic puzzles involving the changing of seasons are brilliant and rewarding. It’s here that the world-building truly takes flight, explaining the different 'realities' and Fran’s place within them. Even in this more colorful world, an underlying sense of sadness remains, making the story feel mature and grounded. It’s a masterclass in world-building and puzzle design that feels like playing through a dark Studio Ghibli film.
Innovative seasonal puzzle mechanics
Vibrant and surreal fantasy world
Expanded lore of the Five Realities
Interactive mini-games and logic tests
Emotional storytelling arc
Use the seasonal clock in the center of Ithersta. If a path is blocked by a river, switch to Winter to freeze the water and cross. If you need a plant to bloom, switch to Spring.
Gameplay revolves around observing how the environment changes through the four seasons. Many characters only appear during specific times of the year, requiring you to 'time travel' to gather information.
While the visual style is brighter, it still retains the psychological depth and eerie undertones characteristic of Fran's journey.
I love the concept of taking the pills and being able to see what's really there. Chapter 2 is my favorite so far, but this one is a close second. The backgrounds are amazing, and the gameplay is great as well. I hope I feel the same about the chapters to come! There's just the perfect amount of dialogue too.
Chapter 3 was a major departure from the feel and execution of the first and second chapters and at first a bit of a disappointment. The first two chapters were both creative and creepy and the storyline was going somewhere. Chapter 3 to start was just a whole lot of poorly written dialogue with lots of boring and meaningless ramblings, but then it changed, then we had puzzles to solve. They pulled it out of the fire!
Hands down the best point and click adventure game that I've played in years!!!! My second favorite point and click after maniac mansion. Please please come out with more games like this series!!!!!!! Totally loved it, no complaints at all and I'm picky about my point and click adventure games. A+ times a billion
This is my 3rd time playing all the Fran Bow games and out of all the chapters this one is my favorite! I can totally relate to the using your imagination to faze out what’s going on around you when you’re going through a terrible time in life 5 stars for every chapter !
The first two chapters were fun, the dialogue not bad, good pacing with the puzzles, beautiful design, and creepy story. Then this the third chapter kills it for me. Tree and bug people? I could get past that, but the dialogue was painful to get through, the story felt like it had nothing to do with the first two, and the puzzles were unintuitive and tedious. It's a shame, I played the first two in a day then had to force myself to finish this one just to see if it got any better. It didn't.
This game out of all five is definitely my favorite there are so many puzzles to do and the scenery is so beautiful
Very well done! Great job on creating enjoyment and suspense in every chapter! A little weird in places, but that's what makes it so different and so cool. Thank you Killmonday
TOUR DE FORCE wonderful! I laughed, I cried; I was mad, angry, disgusted, curious, delighted, and overjoyed. This is the best game of its type ever. No joke. That two people with no technical background developed it is amazing. I love you guys!
