Our Expert Score

90/100

Dexter Stardust is a gorgeous love letter to the classic 'point-and-click' adventure genre, reminiscent of LucasArts legends like Space Quest or Monkey Island. Set in a future where Earth has been destroyed by the robots of Planet X, you play as the taco-loving Dexter and his friend Aurora. The game is stunningly hand-animated, frame-by-frame, giving it the feel of a Saturday morning cartoon come to life.

The writing is genuinely funny, with sharp dialogue and a whimsical sci-fi plot that keeps you engaged across its five episodes. The puzzles are logical but satisfyingly 'adventure-gamey'—you'll be collecting odd items and combining them in creative ways to bypass obstacles. With full voice acting and a catchy original score, it’s one of the most charming and high-quality indie adventures on the App Store. If you have a soft spot for tacos, space travel, and classic 2D animation, this is an absolute must-play.

Jeremy please make the sequel!!

Jeremy, this is One of my favorite games I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing. I won’t pretend to know the first thing about game development or any of the nuances that must go into creating such an all around amazing game like this one. I am just a fan who is really looking forward to playing the finished game or sequel and figured reaching out wont hurt. I read one of the reviews you responded to a year ago saying the sequel will be released in 2024 but it’s just about 2025 so I’m getting a lil nervous lol. So, if you see this and have the time to respond, I (and reading the reviews many other fans as well) would love an update on when we can expect our new game! I replay this game every few months but I fear I have played it to its full extent now. I really mean this, if there is anything we can do to get the second game, I know I am willing to help in any way possible. Thanks for all your amazing work Jeremy! -A forever fan

Great game with perfect difficulty curve

I often get frustrated with point and click puzzle games. I have a tendency to skip past small details in a scene and never come back to pick up the key item that gets me past a certain puzzle. However, with Dexter Stardust, this wasn’t a big issue. Episodes 1-3 and 5 were a breeze. Episode 4 was tough. One tip I have for new players is to turn on the director’s commentary if you are struggling. Not only is it great to hear the director himself explain the design choices behind scenes, but often he’s there to give just the right clue at the right time. The whole game took me 5 hours to complete, and I didn’t need to search up a walkthrough. One piece of feedback I have is adding a feature in which the player is notified if there is a key item they haven’t picked up in the room. I often miss a tiny piece of paper or small detail and it gives me 30 minutes of grief.

Excellent game!

I found this game to be very enjoyable! The way the story was written was flawless. Jeremy your imagination with the story, the characters, the voice actors, the sound/music and the graphics were very well done! (I don’t think I left anything out?) I WISH I had your imagination…If anyone out there is looking for a fun and well done “point and click” adventure game, then folks you will not be disappointed with this one. Who am I to judge? I played “Pong” when it first came out AND I have played almost every “point and click” for the past 50 plus years. Jeremy I look forward to playing your other games that will be coming out in the near future. And thank you “So much” for spending a little time to help me out with my gaming questions that I wrote you through email. Best of the Best to you! Mark K.

Such a great game!

The story was awesome, and the gameplay was fun! Perfect combo! I only needed a walkthrough a few times, and every time it was because I had forgotten something I learned or saw from earlier in the game and it made me go “Doh! Oh yeah!”. Everything makes sense, there’s no wandering around aimlessly only to figure out that the solution you’re looking for is some random item or interaction that nobody would have ever thought of. If you have a good memory, you probably won’t need a walkthrough at all. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy! It’s a perfect amount of difficulty without being completely frustrating. I just want to know WHEN the sequel will be here! I’m dying to get back into the story!! Great job, developers. You nailed it!!

Gaming done right

We’re eagerly awaiting the next installment, this game is truly something special. It’s a rare gem that appeals across generations: my 17-year-old, my 10-year-old, and I all had an absolute blast playing it. It’s not often you find a game that strikes the perfect balance for such a wide age range. The story is engaging, the humor hits just right, and the mix of challenging and more relaxed puzzles keeps everyone entertained. The visuals are sharp, and the cutscenes, voice acting, and music are all top notch. Best of all, it runs flawlessly, there are no glitches, just pure fun from start to finish. This is gaming done right.

Perfect story and graphics. Sense of humor which is mandatory in point and click games is great. One comment: it is clear you are proud of the Spanish language and it is definitely admirable. However, the app is also marketed to English speakers. I know basic Spanish so I understood most of the Spanish included in the dialogues. However, it would have been nice to have a feature for English speakers with no knowledge of the Spanish language to have English subtitle for the Spanish portion. The subtitles are in English but the Spanish parts are not translated and just appear as they are being said in Spanish.

It's ok so far, but nothing special

I played the first couple of episodes so maybe it gets better but I'm not wowed by the game. I had my eye on this game for a while because the reviews are so unanimously positive- but so far it's just meh. Maybe my bar is a little high right now because I just finished Slim Threads (amazing!) and Chants of Sennar (so unique) so this game just seems like it's trying but not quite hitting the mark. Voice acting is generally good except for the actress who does Aurora. She sounds flat and emotionless; and not in an intentional Aubrey Plaza way. I really want to like this game so I'm going to finish it regardless, and hopefully the rest of the episodes will make me change my review. Will update if that's the case.

Wonderful adventure made even better by fantastic customer support!

Here is an adventure through space that reminds me of the old space & king quest or monkey island games with a nice little in-game reference to those pixel art games that made my youth so much more enjoyable. A small bug happened to us in Episode 3 but relentless focus from Jeremy and his team meant it got resolved for us in no time at all! The support here is really something special. Get into Dexter’s adventures, you won’t regret it! Don’t just take my word for it, both my 10 and 15 yr old boys say the same! Pure mobile bliss!
