FOOTSIES Rollback Edition is a masterclass in 'less is more.' As a fighting game veteran, I’m used to complex 50-hit combos and meters that require a PhD to manage, but FOOTSIES strips all of that away to focus on the absolute core of the genre: spacing, timing, and punishment. It’s a 2D fighter with only one attack button, yet it manages to capture the high-stakes tension of a professional grand final. Every move matters, and every mistake is potentially fatal.
The 'Rollback' in the title isn't just marketing fluff; the implementation of rollback netcode makes the online experience incredibly smooth, which is vital for a game where a single frame can be the difference between a hit and a whiff. The addition of the arcade mode and varied mini-games provides a nice break from the sweat of ranked matches. If you want to actually learn how fighting games work at a fundamental level, or if you just want a pure, distilled competitive experience on your phone, this is an essential download.
Rollback Netcode for smooth online play
Simple one-button control scheme
Arcade and Endless modes
Frame data and hit-box viewers in Training
Success in FOOTSIES is about staying just outside your opponent's reach while baiting them to swing. Watch for the 'whiff'—when they miss, move in instantly for the punish.
Tap the button for a normal attack, or hold it for a guard-breaking special. Double tap forward or back to dash and maintain the perfect distance.
It introduces a complete overhaul of the online system using GGPO-style rollback, plus new characters and moves compared to the original.
As someone who plays fighting games it’s good to go back to the ground game and you can use a controller too which I just found out and makes it even more fun I just gotta find peeps to play with
