Firstly, let me say that this game is beautiful. The design is stunning and the scenery is also. The characters have their own styles and “voice” which is typically the music. Secondly, I would also say that the journey is a very fun one. It’s adventurous. I use it as a challenge to see how many days I can survive and to dig out the secrets. I want to unlock and discover everything. Maybe there’s a way to escape? Maybe not? Only as the days continue, Will I probably find out. Lastly, the bugs. It’s terrible. I would give it five stars but I my character glitching in the game as my days get longer. The music starts to get all disoriented and that’s not just from losing my sanity. My sanity can be perfectly fine but the music isn’t. Then the colors start to fade, which is annoying because everything goes to a gray color. The birds don’t even sound like birds anymore. Even when I close out the game and open it again, it fixes it for a while and then it goes back to crap again. Please fix. Other than this, I would recommend to anyone looking for a challenge within a stunning game.
When did you sneak in the Home Sea Home update?! I could swear I checked the update notes every time because I'm one of the weirdos who actually like the iOS interface a lot, and I've been really sad that I couldn't play Shipwrecked on iOS because the Home Sea Home content is so, so important. So, yay! It's here at last! (Although it looks like some minor things are still a bit buggy -- Walani's descriptions of most of the new content are "It's a...thing", which is afaik the default "oops, we forgot to put in a description of this" description -- and the edge-of-the-map endless loop bug is still there.) Update: After finally unlocking completing the quest to free Woodlegs and unlock his character, I was feeling triumphant! So it was really crushing to discover that his exclusive boat cannon doesn't work on mobile. I love this game, but the bugs in this port can get you down.
I adore this game. Truly, I do. But my favorite way to play is relaxing on the sofa on my iPad Pro — it’s just so portable and the size is perfect! Unfortunately, the bugs make it too frustrating. An example? Instant overheating when I enter the volcano, no matter what I wear or do or what season it is. I’ve never been able to unlock Woodlegs. That’s the most frustrating one for me. If you play on Steam I’ve heard there’s a mod to correct this, but no such thing exists on iOS. I’ve also run into a bug where my last action just keeps repeating and the only thing that fixes it is to save and quit, and one where when I sail off of the edge I keep bouncing back and forth without getting to the ocean. But those went away with a save & quit. The volcano one is a game-killer. If you go to Klei’s forums (where they direct you if you have a problem) you’ll see pages of people listing bugs and almost all of them have hundreds of views and zero replies. Nothing gets addressed. So be prepared going in.
The story is there, it’s in every detail of the beginning of the game, such is their MO. This game is not really fully intended for the phone, but for the computer. It’s also on the PlayStation list and I’m sure even XBox might have one too. If you want to play games based on other people’s opinions, then you might not play ANY GAME, every game has its flaws and it’s perks. It’s up to you to decide, based on the gameplay itself, do you like the game. It’s not about my opinion or theirs, it’s about YOUR opinion. This game is a work of art, you don’t have to appreciate it, others will. You don’t have to understand it, because trust me, OTHERS WILL. (All upper cased words are done so to emphasize not seem like I’m yelling ) I say one thing they should add for this game, is a setting to connect a controller and to apply a configuration for how to access and use and fight and move.
In short, if you like the original Don’t Starve game, you’ll like this one too. The only thing that keeps this game from getting 5 stars is that the controls are a bit finicky... it’s fine when you’re just walking around the world, gathering and building things, but it’s a nightmare when you’re fighting an enemy, especially when there’s a lot of trees in the way. Your character will just stand still, making some comment about the tree you just clicked on, while some monster chomps away at him! It’s especially bad since a lot of the fighting requires you to hit the enemy a couple times before running a small distance away to dodge their attack. You need to make sure you’re in a wide open space to fight anything effectively. Also, you can’t play as Wigfrid (my favorite character), so you can’t just tank the enemy attacks.
I have been playing this game for years starting with the original version. However, I now noticed the supply list at the bottom of the screen overlaps with the map and rotation controls so I can no longer click on my hats and costs being worn. Also the attach and repeat function buttons overlap with items in the world such as pots and other objects making the gameplay more tedious and not as fun. There should be an option to remove the attack/collect/repeat buttons from the screen. I know the programmers probably made changes like the joystick and the buttons to help plays but don’t get why the joystick can be removed but not the buttons. Also the issue with the overlapping rotation buttons and items being worn is very annoying. Please fix!!
Really fun game! Wish you had an actual "sandbox" mode so that you can't die(a casual mode). clothing that you can wear with the packs, it's so annoying that I have to choose between wearing a jacket or my backpack. Also more types of houses for your player to build to live in that doesn't just have a handful of uses before it's destroyed, like different cabins made from all types of material, maybe a stone house that volcanoes or fire can't destroy, or one that you can constantly upgrade to make stronger or last longer. Maybe a story line with the game so we know what the goal is besides the goal to survive, maybe village people/animals that we can do quests for in order to get gears, gem stones, or other rarities. I love the game now but like I said, there's always room for improvements!
The game gives you all Don’t Starve Reign of Giants characters without effort put forth. I find that ridiculously. I think it would be nice if you had a game on the phone called DS collision. Where it has all expansions in one. And when playing on Don’t starve reign of giants you would unlock DS characters. But to unlock shipwrecks characters you must play on shipwrecked. Like 8 days on reign of giants is willow. But eight days on shipwrecked is Walani. Also the same would apply for don’t starve hamlet. So maybe just a configuration of the game dlcs. And you could choose together as well. With together you would be given all new characters with it. I’d say a good price is $10-$12 dollars for being mobile. But I’d pay most at $17.
