-Fixed issue where the UI stopped responding after using the inventory.
Don't Starve: Pocket Edition is a phenomenal port of one of the best survival games ever made. The Tim Burton-esque art style is still hauntingly beautiful, and the uncompromising difficulty is perfectly intact. Managing your hunger, health, and sanity is a constant, stressful juggle that makes every survived day feel like a victory.
The touch controls are surprisingly competent, though they take a bit of practice for combat. What I love most is the sense of discovery—experimenting with the 'Science Machine' to see what weird tools you can build is the heart of the game. It’s a deep, dark, and endlessly replayable survival sandbox that fits perfectly on mobile.
Uncompromising survival and exploration
Unique hand-drawn gothic 2D art style
Deep crafting system and tech progression
Randomly generated worlds for every play
Includes the 'Reign of Giants' expansion content
Your absolute priority is light. As soon as the sun goes down, Charlie will attack you in the dark. Gather grass and twigs immediately to craft a torch or a campfire before dusk ends. Spend your first day gathering flint and wood to build basic tools.
Hunger is obvious, but don't ignore Sanity. Being out in the rain or staying in the dark for too long will make Wilson start seeing hallucinations. Pick flowers or wear a top hat to boost your sanity and keep the nightmare creatures at bay.
Yes, standard play features permadeath. If you die, your world is lost unless you have found specific magical items like a Meat Effigy or Touch Stone.
This game is amazing. It’s like a whimsical but also really dark survival game, and the art is super good. When I first got the app, though, I tried opening it and it repeatedly kicked me out immediately. I restarted my iPad and had the same problem. The next morning, it worked perfectly—a bit weird. I mean, I’m happy it works, but also a bit annoyed, bc it made me think I had wasted a dollar. A bit glitchy, but overall an amazing game—again, I love the art, and it’s so much fun. Although, I wish there was a clearer way to disable Sanity so you can have an easier and calmer game if you want. I personally don’t love the building system, but it works well enough, and the Science Machine feature is super cool. Developers, if you’re reading this, I have one question (the answer is probably pretty obvious, but I haven’t been playing for very long): what season is Bunny Season? Or something like that. I enjoy the hunting mechanism and I would like the bunnies to come out more often (wait, are they jackalopes? Idk) so that the traps are more worth it (although I do feel bad about killing all the cute weird little beasts). Anyways, I highly recommend this game. Don’t think there are any ads, it’s really just gameplay. (Edited) Although, it would make the experience a lot better if the developers could IMPROVE THEIR RESPONSE RATE?? Feels like we’re being ignored—I haven’t seen a single developer response. (Edited again) Okay this is ACTUALLY ANNOYING. After being able to play it for a little bit, suddenly the game stopped working? It’s kicking me out AGAIN.
I loooove don’t starve. I own it (along with all the expansions available and don’t starve together for applicable systems) for PC, Xbox and also mobile. I started playing it when it was still in the free 15 minute browser demo ages ago. I finally bought it and love it. I have this version and the shipwrecked version for iOS. Both need a few tweaks. First off is world gen. It seems when you try to adjust the world gen settings, it lets you and it lets you save it as a preset. But it doesn’t apply it. It always reverts back to the default or the ‘no sweat’ depending on which mode you choose when you start the game. This seems to be active in the shipwrecked version as well. Next is controller support. Shipwrecked won’t recognize the controller at all, and this one does, but it doesn’t let you pick anything up. Just move around and attack, but not gather. These are just some simple bugs that need to be ironed out. It would be awesome if y’all could merge this version and shipwrecked or at least add the characters back and forth (Webber to shipwrecked and Wilbur to this one) since I realize it would probably be very hard to incorporate the boat mechanics. Ship wrecked also needs to be brought an update to bring it up to date with the pc and Xbox versions. I can’t wait until you guys figure out how to add don’t starve together to mobile as well. This has great potential and is a great port over. I’m sure it would play better on a larger tablet or a mega phone (like the Max’s or whatever) with touch, but controller would be wonderful for the ‘smaller’ screens. I have been working on something that is basically don’t starve for iOS for a few years (because I love don’t starve and was trying to port it myself for my own personal use and play on the go) before you launched the mobile game and i understand how difficult it is to make, but you guys are a lot more experienced than I am at software, could you please fix these bugs? Thank you!
It’s a very good game, I must say, but I have a few wishes. I would have bought the computer version if it hat no sweat mode like the iOS version. A second complaint is cave mobs. Depth worms can one hit kill you, making a deathloop if you dropped valuable items on death. Something else that should be fixed is the Bunnymen. They attack you if you have any meat, but they aren’t content with slaughtering you once, no, I’ve died at least 9 times to the same posse of 4 bunnies, even AFTER I dropped the meat! You should really. Fix this, if you please. The only option is to put them to sleep. Attacking them triggers the entire village, pan flutes take too long, so the only way is to eat a mandrake, a non-renewable resource! All in all, fix the cave mobs and I’ll give it a 5 star. Make no sweat mode for computer, and I’ll happily buy it. -Shraamper EDIT: the mandrakes didn’t work; they still slaughtered me. 2 Stars it is, then. I also tried to overwhelm them with 5 pigs, but I still got wrecked! I guess I’ll have to give up on the caves.😓 Not to mention they are all trapped down there. I also tried distracting them with tantacles( I’m Wickerbottom) but it still failed. One of my caves are swarmed with depth worms, and the other is swarmed with bunny warlords. So now I’m stuck on the surface with most of my workforce of pigs sealed away. If I try to get my pigs out, they will see my meat and it will all start over again! FINALLY the mandrake thing worked! Dang that took awhile!
It’s not as good as Don’t Starve Together (especially Wendy and Abigail) but it’s still pretty good. Except when you almost die to an invisible ewecus. And when pigs walk off the earth and onto the water and never come back. Yes, I said onto the water. Like Jesus. There also seems to be a rare glitch where making food turns straight into rot. Oh, and placing walls/fences is absolutely terrible. Also, my game crashed when I made frogs attack a lure plant. Probably a bad idea on my part but it was funny. There’s also a weird glitch when you die and respawn at the statue, your character just starts taking off in one direction. I also had a fire hound spawn in my first winter. Kinda strange. Also, when your weapon breaks, it doesn’t replace the weapon even if you have the same kind in your inventory but it’ll do so good shovels/pickaxes/etc. Also, Abigail gets stuck offscreen all the time and there’s no way to pull her aggro off of anything. I let her die if she’s accidentally summoned and just throw the flowers at the spawn statue; that’s how useless she is to me here. Also, my world had no “totally normal trees” and I had to spawn a tree guard for living logs. It utterly destroyed me. But great game :D love DST so this is good way to play when I’m not home.
I’m just going to keep this very brief. I’m writing this in the hopes that a developer somehow finds it. Although this game is amazing in every sense of the word And exactly my style...the thing that all of the internet and mostly reddit is complaining about is the fact that, if you were to try to play a song or a podcast of any kind while in the app it will stop your music and will not allow you to resume. It seems like a very small problem but to some it’s a rather big deal. The game is great and interesting, but once you know everything there is to know about the game, seen everything there is to see, and slain every beast possible, it gets boring. That’s just how all games are and there’s nothing can change it. But if you can listen to a podcast or entertainment of any kind, then the game once again becomes very useful. It will function as something for the eyes and hands to do while the ears are otherwise occupied. This not to say that the ambience, FX, and in-game music aren’t enough, it’s just that it gets repetitive and mind numbing after a while. So on behalf of me and the group of fans who love to play a relaxing game with entertaining audio media I ask that you change it. btw wasn’t as brief as I thought
Before I start there is a current bug in the game where the bosses don’t spawn I made it through three seasons and the deerclops, moose-goose, and the dragonfly aren’t spawning I played multiple worlds and made it through winter and the deerclops didn’t spawn at all. -and for some reason characters overheat in caves (I had a cold thermal stone in my inventory) I’ve played don’t starve on pc before and when I heard that there was a pocket edition version I downloaded it almost immediately. I was sup prized by how well everything worked in the game and how many of the features that they where able to add to the app. But now after a while of owning the game I feel like there are some features that should be added (if possible I know you guys are currently working on hamlet and more updates for DST) One of these things is added that should be considered is adding more DLCs to the game, currently only don’t starve reign of giants and don’t starve shipwrecked are available in the AppStore and I think that adding to these would really make things better for the pocket edition players. Adding don’t starve together would also be a plus. Playing don’t starve solo is a good way to learn the basics of surviving in the game but playing with others can make this experience a bit for fun, while also making things more challenging since now you have more mouths to feed and resources would be like grass and twigs will be taken up faster. Finding a way for mods to be added would also be a nice touch
My only issue is having to click the food to eat 1 by 1. Its not fair that that if i use the repeat symbol it only makes the last item made. The other version didnt have the problem. Not only that i paid for this game an for it to not really work correctly!! That issue needs to be fixed! Why should i have to keep clicking to eat 1 by 1 when i can hold the repeat symbol down an not have to click the bar on the bottom an then the food then eat! It would be nice for that bug to go away! An fixed!! If its paid for. It shouldn’t matter if on console or pc or phone that repeat button should be able to use for food an not the last item made. The game isnt being as fair at all. I havent made it passed 27 days! Even if i created my own world the things i don’t want still pop up an still in the game. I always put no rain an it still rains no matter what. I put no winter an winter still comes. I put no summer! An yet again summer comes! These bugs needs to be fixed!
I love this game. I love it to bits. I have over 160 hours on steam and I finally had the common sense to get the mobile version. The game is fun and works like the PC version, but I am incredibly frustrated because of one particular glitch. I like to make camp by the beefalo for protection and easy manure production, but for some reason, my player will randomly auto-attack the beefalo. Without my hand being anywhere near the three general control buttons, the character will all of a sudden decide to attack the beefalo. There was even a solid minute of gameplay where I had to keep moving the character away from the beefalo because it kept running toward them to attack! I’ve tried multiple things, but nothing works and it only seems to be the beefalos. I’ve had three games end because I haven’t found a respawn and my character auto attacked them only for them to kill me in two hits. It’s incredibly discouraging and disappointing :/
