Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend is a nostalgic masterpiece for fans of old-school JRPGs. This collection brings together the three Game Boy classics that originally launched the SaGa series (marketed as Final Fantasy Legend in the West to boost sales). What makes this collection so impressive is the care taken in the porting process. You can play in the original 4:3 aspect ratio with retro skins, or use modern enhancements like high-speed mode and screen rotation for vertical play.
The games themselves are notoriously experimental. Instead of traditional leveling, your characters grow based on their actions in battle or the meat they eat (if they are monsters). It’s a refreshing departure from the standard RPG formula, even decades later. While the graphics are strictly 8-bit, the depth of the world-building and the challenge of the boss fights are top-tier. For the price, you're getting three full-length RPGs that defined an era of handheld gaming.
Three complete classic RPGs
High-speed gameplay toggle
Support for vertical and horizontal play
Authentic 8-bit soundtrack and art
In the first game, Humans gain stats by buying items, while Mutants gain them randomly. Don't expect a standard 'Level Up' screen!
Use the high-speed toggle to breeze through grinding sections or travel across the world map more quickly.
Switch between The Final Fantasy Legend, Final Fantasy Legend II, and Final Fantasy Legend III from a central menu.
Change the background 'skin' to mimic an original Game Boy or play in full-screen mode.
They share similar mechanics and themes, but each game features a standalone story and world.
Good gameboy port. Feels like comfort food. Only complaint: it needs a Cloud-save option.
Not very often that something like this comes around. One could spend years and potentially hundreds of dollars trying to find these three games in their original format. Or, one could simply drop a $20 bill and get this. The choice is a no-brainer. I loved the original Legend and beat it, but in time lost it. Couldn't find a copy for almost 20 years before I found a retro junk shop that had it. I was later able to find the second game in the same shop. Never could find the third. And they probably would have charged a small fortune if they had it. Now that all three games are on mobile in one neat package 📦, players should not need to struggle to hunt down physical copies. What you see is exactly what you're going to get. All three games, unadulterated, right down to the Nintendo branding on each title. Any JRPG fan wanting a change of pace from the bog standard would do well to look here first. For anyone else, the price is super nice. You just can't lose.
Made the jump from switch very smoothly. The only thing I’m wishing was implemented was cloud saves like most other Square mobile games. For an RPG I’d wish that'd be present here as well so I don’t have to worry about losing the progress across all three games.
I was a young nerdy boy with no friends but I had the OG huge gray gameboy and all I did was play these three games. Idk who decided to do this release, but I can’t describe how grateful I am. ❤️
A perfect port. Very satisfying for old school gamers like myself. Such a complex and interesting series of rpg’s from so many years ago. Well worth the price.
Every other FF game including all the pixel remasters so far have a cloud option except this one. I would love to play between my iPad and my phone. Hoping I missed it or it gets added in an update. Makes no sense to me.
I play through all of these games in my childhood and I was excited to play them again on my phone, but the touch controls are so lacking so janky.
This game is clearly not the same as it was on game boy. RNG is definitely not at all Random. The same battle occurs every reload, move for move. Seems like some things got broken on the port over.

Incredible soundtrack, stories in the later titles pretty engaging, fast-forward function makes games quicker, battle mechanics surprisingly ambitious.

The game begins by having the player create a party composed of humans, mutants, or monsters, along with the option to choose the gender for humans or mutants.

The Final Fantasy Legend games actually belong to the SaGa series, a much more niche and often obtuse branch of JRPGs that feature unique progression mechanics.

What's more, you have the option of making the sides look however you wish as you can turn the Switch into either a Game Boy or Game Boy Color.
