Tainted Treasure is a clever twist on the dungeon-crawling genre that focuses more on risk management than raw combat. The premise is intriguing: every piece of loot you find might be cursed, and you have to weigh the stat boost against the potential debuff. It creates this constant tension—do I take the massive sword that might occasionally drain my health, or stick with my reliable, weaker dagger?
The pixel art is charming and evocative of the 16-bit era, and the procedural generation keeps the dungeons feeling fresh. It can be quite punishing; a few bad 'tainted' choices can end a run quickly. However, the 'one more try' factor is strong here. It’s a great pick for RPG fans who want something a bit more cerebral than just mashing an attack button.
Procedurally generated dungeons
Over 100 unique 'Tainted' items
Challenging turn-based combat
Unlockable character classes
Keep an eye out for Purification Altars. These are rare rooms that allow you to remove the negative 'taint' from one item while keeping its positive stats. Saving your best cursed items for these altars is key to winning late-game runs.
The 'Taint Meter' fills as you equip more cursed items. If it reaches 100%, you take permanent damage every few steps. Always carry a 'Clear Mind' potion to reset the meter in emergencies.
As a rogue-lite, you lose your current items but keep 'Essence' which can be used to buy permanent upgrades for your next hero.
Great game look forward to more content.
I like the game and the idea but it seriously needs more info on how the weapons work how many hits each one gets etc. the swipe mechanic is obvious but I have no idea what these weapons are or what they do so it’s hard to make decisions on swapping them, etc. amor detailed tutorial would do wonders!
