- Layoffs! A new chapter with new channels and emojis, based on recent events
- Some UI improvements
Chief Emoji Officer is a brilliant piece of corporate satire that is as funny as it is unique. The concept—climbing the corporate ladder at a tech startup using only emojis to communicate—is a perfect parody of modern work culture. Playing as a new hire at 'Redify,' you navigate a branching narrative filled with hilarious characters like the positivity-obsessed Joey and the ever-dreadful Karen. The writing is sharp, biting, and incredibly relatable to anyone who has ever used Slack or Microsoft Teams.
The game is an 'Editors' Choice' for a reason. Your choices actually matter; the emojis you send influence your coworkers' perceptions and determine whether you'll eventually become the CEO or end up in the latest round of layoffs. With six chapters of content and high replayability (you'll want to go back and see how different emojis change the outcome), it's a fantastic value. The recent 'Layoffs' update even adds a layer of timely commentary on the tech industry. It’s a hilarious, bite-sized visual novel that manages to be both a great game and a sharp critique of the 'move fast and break things' mentality.

Pay attention to your coworkers' personalities. Some respond better to professional emojis, while others prefer chaos. Your emoji choice determines your promotion potential.
Read incoming messages from your team and select the best emoji response. Manage your 'CEO' path by balancing company needs with employee satisfaction (or lack thereof).
Yes, poor decisions or making the wrong enemies can lead to your termination or being caught in a round of layoffs.
This game is super charming. I’ve used Slack before and I’m a big hater but the UI of it actually works really well for a narrative game. The emoji response gimmick is really fun—sometimes what you choose has unexpected consequences, which is an added challenge. 5 stars although dang it really is unexpectedly difficult to avoid getting laid off!
This game reminds me a lot of the game Tender. I love these kinds of narrative stories told through an every day interface but it’s hard to ever feel immersed in this game because of the fact that you have to do things through chapters. I want to be able to open up the app, respond to someone’s message and the close it. It also feels very prescriptive that as soon as you respond to someone’s message, you will always receive another message in a different channel. Tender takes things a little slower and makes it more realistic, sometimes you will have conversations that are longer but then sometimes you have to wait a little bit for a response. I really want to love this game but it feels just a little too rigid/linear for me to feel fully immersed in this world.
Have you ever wondered what it was like to work in Silicon Valley? Chief Emoji Officer will open your eyes to the interpersonal relationships in that setting. Can you start and have a relationship with your director (a fox)? Sure, if you are willing to work hard. Do you want to help change the (third) world? ☀️ Start a revolution? 🔥 All of these can be accomplished while climbing to the top and becoming the C.E.O.
The plot and ridiculousness of the characters are hilarious but also a perfect satire of a cringey silicon valley tech company! I found myself rolling my eyes and gasping at what was happening on this company slack channel, but then realized how cleverly based on reality it was! Overusing the eggplant emoji is fun as well!
This game was totally cathartic and made me laugh so many times. I can’t wait to play again and unlock new emojis.
I was promoted to CEO in about half an hour of play and then I couldn’t go back and play any of the chapters again to unlock other channels. At one point in the game a character didn’t understand the emoji I was using and made the (“correct”) decision for me. It’s a cute idea but it just doesn’t seem like there enough content here yet.
Loved seeing some good satire in a gamified version of slack. Recommended to anyone who has worked in big tech companies!
A great casual game to play around with. I had a lot of fun trying to navigate through the corporate channels to get ahead.
