Attention ensigns! New stories ahead!
Main Event 52 “Shaken, Not Stirred” - Bashir and Garak are enjoying a 60’s spy thriller sim in the holodeck. What could go wrong? You’d be surprised.
Episode 132 “Lorem Ipsum” - On a scouting visit to a strange planet with a sentient ecosystem, Saru is entranced and wants to stay. Can Mariner get him back to the Cerritos before he’s lost forever?
Star Trek Lower Decks Mobile is a treat for fans of the show. It captures the frantic, irreverent energy of the Cerritos perfectly. As an idle game, it’s quite standard, but the 'Star Trek' skin is what makes it special. Seeing Mariner, Boimler, and Tendi deal with 'sci-fi nonsense' through the game's story beats is genuinely funny and feels very authentic to the source material.
The gameplay involves managing various stations and simulations, which fits the 'Lower Decks' theme of doing the grunt work of the Federation. It’s satisfying to see your production numbers go up, and the 'Taps' mechanic during boss fights adds just enough engagement to keep you from putting the phone down. If you're looking for a deep strategy game, this isn't it—but if you want a funny, Trek-themed idle game to check in on throughout the day, this is excellent.

Focus on upgrading Boimler early on, as his automation bonuses are vital for clearing the first few sectors. Save your Dilithium for character crates to unlock rare crew members.
Players earn 'merit points' even when the game is closed. These points are used to upgrade simulation rooms and automate production.
Yes, the game features characters and scenarios from across the seasons of the animated series.
It’s good for an idle clicker style game. Also love the writing, I feel like they captured the voices of the characters well. There’s elegance in the Lower Decks game being an idle clicker about menial tasks, but idle clickers only have so much depth. I want more game depth! Even one or two more things where player choice matters over waiting would be very welcome. The events are too short (or milestones too high) to the point you have no chance to earn the milestone rewards before they end without paying money. I get the ranked rewards driving people to spend, but the milestones it’s just feel bads not getting them. Maybe aim for free players earning 75% of them instead of 50%? Then I’d be more tempted to spend a couple bucks to finish them off. Besides all that, other games of this style let you buy a no ads mode for like $10-20, absolutely more than you’re earning off my ads right now. I’d totally do that for this game, but it just isn’t offered as an option!
This is a fairly fun idle game that’s a slight variation on this type of game (I call them zig-zag games, not sure if the genre has a name). But after a while progression gets very, very slow, which makes it boring. It seems to be incomplete, too, because if you go into the settings, about half the options are disabled. It doesn’t even connect to Game Center, which is a very basic thing for games to do. There are some interface bugs to where some elements will be behind others and you have to scroll to just the right place to interact with them. Plus, there are arrows that will scroll you to something you need to collect, or whatever, but they get stuck on the screen and will take you to a building that is not ready to collect. That gets really annoying because they flash, in an attempt to get your attention, and you basically can’t get rid of them. Don’t even bother with events. Only the top 20 players get a decent reward and you won’t get anywhere near that unless you spend lots and lots of money. Even if you start an event the moment it becomes available and have the multiplier from watching ads going the whole time, and do nothing else in life but play this game, you’ll still not be anywhere near the top 20. They need to break it down by percentages, rather than just the top 20 players. As more people play this game, casual players will have absolutely no hope of ever getting anything from events.
This game is a real disappointment in my opinion. I love the series and I was really looking forward to the game but after a few months of playing it I can say without a doubt that it’s not worth the time. I get that lower decks crew are stuck with menial time wasting tasks but that’s all the game is. There’s absolutely no depth to it. The in app purchases are rigged very much in favor of the game developers. I’ve never played a game like this where those extras cost so much in comparison to the reward. The events reset you each time so you find yourself starting over daily unlocking and upgrading the same characters just to complete an event half way in the time allotted. The only way to really complete one of the special events is to pay loads of money to either buy the currency of that event or to buy a small amount of gold pressed latinum to try to upgrade characters or locations for that particular event and increase the rate of earning experience points for that event. The main game is just boring after a while - it does retain the character upgrades and the only change is the amount of points or locations that you have open in each level. At the end of a level you have to tap the screen repeatedly to try to earn crates and no matter how much I tap or if I get extra fingers on the screen I never make it past 2. The game is just a total disappointment and lame. If you want something to distract you during a bm it’s great for that. I’d delete it after as it’s not worth the space it takes up on my phone.
I love this game and you know I’ll play it no matter what (because Trekkie), but this last update is super-buggy. The main game is no longer offering 30 dilithium every 10min … the current event has Boimler’s picture labeled Tendi everywhere … and it’s still super-stingy with chips I need to complete goals to advance in the game. I wrote to Support about the chips issue a while back and they just kept saying chip distribution is “completely randomized” … it’s obviously not and doesn’t come close to appearing so. I maxed out most simulations a couple of weeks ago, so of course since then I only got chips for the maxed out simulations and can’t advance the remaining ones (yes I know simulations can go higher than Level 10 now … but I’m still not getting chips for the simulations left behind). Same thing with characters … I’m only getting chips for characters that are already maxed out. I wrote to Support about how skewed their “completely randomized” drops are and they told me not to be afraid to buy chips in the Shop … except the Shop only offers chips for characters that are maxed out or already have more than enough to upgrade. Trade offers are mostly ridiculous … you want me to trade chips from an item that doesn’t have enough to an item that already has too many? How is that helpful?? Please have the devs & Support folks play the game (“dogfooding”) without using any paid options so they’ll see how unbalanced & stingy the drops & Trades & Shop offers are … and when users tell you it’s not working how you say it is, LISTEN! I’m docking one star for the current super-buggy update and one for the prior issues I’ve reported that haven’t been fixed, but I haven’t given up yet. Please fix them so I can update this review??
UPDATE THREE: The biggest offender for the ads, currently, is Hero Wars. The ad just came on and I quickly activated my stop watch to verify the time until I was released from the ad and could return to the game: TWO MINUTES & FIFTEEN SECONDS. 135 seconds. It’s ridiculous. 30 seconds should be the cap, not a moment more. If the ads weren’t so ludicrously long, I’d give this game 4 or 5 stars. UPDATE TWO: These 135 second ads that aren’t skippable are becoming just too much. No other game I have played since 2007 when I got my first iPhone has subjected me to this nonsense. I really enjoy playing the game but these ads that are OVER TWO MINUTES LONG AREN’T TOLERABLE! Fix this mess! 30secs is more than enough of MY game playing time to donate to your coffers for every couple/few minutes of playtime - ON TOP OF ME OFTEN SPENDING REAL MONEY IN-GAME TO BUY UPGRADES AND COINS! ITS RIDICULOUS AND UNACCEPTABLE! ORIGINAL: This game has no ability to back up or preserve any of its progress nor restore your purchases if your phone dies or you delete the app - POOF! - just like that, anything you’ve spent in this game is gone. Bear that in mind before spending anything on it. Latest update is super janky, won’t load, says there’s no internet connection even when cell and wifi are full-strength, and every other app on your phone works great. Aside from those glaring issues, this game is really enjoyable, when it’s working, and is accurate to the Lower Decks show and Star Trek canon in general. Have fun but be mentally prepared to lose all of your progress and anything you’ve bought if the game goes sideways or your phone suffers a catastrophic failure.
This is a lovely game. It is a lot of fun and captures the spirit of the show well. It is, however, a beta test game. There is nothing in place to save the game so that you can play you current game on a different device. There are grayed out buttons indicating a future feature. I was considering an iPhone upgrade but I would have to start over from the beginning. I am almost finished with Episode 15. I have made a few small purchases which will be gone trying to go to a new device. I discovered this trying to play my game on my iPad. The game looks great on an iPad. But no progress will move to any other device. The developers are aware that this is an issue but don’t have saves or game center implemented yet. It should be labeled a beta test with some features not working at this time. I would also suggest that until this is working, AVOID ANY IN-GAME PURCHSES!!! If you change devices, all progress is lost.
Didn’t annoy by inundating itself with pop-ups and in-app purchases. I LOVE that this game isn’t ridden with ads like fleas; Any interaction with them is done at the player’s discretion, which is a choice I respect in the face of a game that does want to draw an honest profit. Another game might make them appear by force as a marketing tool. There is character in choosing otherwise. Progression doesn’t fall off even later in the game. The steps forward feel quantifiable and impactful. Having played many idle games this does not suffer from over-complication or blind greed. The attention put into this game’s story feels more akin to a passion project that reasonably wants to make back the funding it was granted. It’s just an honest way of producing something for a large scale IP like Star Trek, and it’s nice that they did a good job of it. Also helps that it has loved characters in Lower Decks’ unique art style. It is a collection I admit to enjoy building.
The game is a good game if it loads. I had played it previously and reached moderately high level, after also purchasing some packs and reaching certain achievements with the characters. However, the game eventually stopped working for me, saying that it needed to download new assets but wasn’t online and needed to be (despite the fact that every other app and browser on my phone was able to access the internet). The only way I was able to overcome this problem was to uninstall the app, and re-download it, at which point about half the time the game successfully opened up. This meant that I lost all my progress and items purchased. at first, I was OK with this since it meant I was able to play the game again. However after eight or nine levels, the game stopped loading successfully. When starting up the app, it would go to the loading screen, spin for a while, reach approximately 25%, then fail to a black screen, and then back to the phones home screen. Now, 100% of the time the game fails to load
