Hey Adventurers!
We’ve given Bikini Bottom a little tune-up! This update includes bug fixes and behind-the-scenes improvements to keep your adventures running smoothly.
Thanks for playing, and we’ll see you in the game!
SpongeBob Adventures: In a Jam is a delightful blend of city-building and exploration that captures the humor of the show perfectly. After Bikini Bottom is covered in 'Jellyfish Jam,' it's up to you to clean up the mess and restore the city. The game succeeds by focusing on the characters; the dialogue feels authentic to the series, which is a rare treat for a licensed mobile game.
The gameplay involves clearing debris, farming ingredients, and completing quests for familiar faces. While it does rely on energy mechanics and timers typical of the genre, the constant unlockable areas and the charm of the world make the wait worth it. It’s a very cozy game that fans of the show will absolutely love, especially with the high-quality animations and voice-over snippets.

I’m a HUGE SpongeBob fan at my big age 27!! I can honestly say this is a wonderful game and has a lot of potential. The only few problems I have is the cap on the energy is ridiculously low, especially when removing one item requires more than 50 energy points. The farming of the supplies is a little frustrating because when a new item comes out, majority of the orders on the order board is that new item but you only get a few farming patches. The supplies needed to create certain things is very limited and false leading. Coral and wood are the two hard ones for me. And when I asked where to find wood or coral, the game is asking me to use up my energy to clear out a space to get to the coral or wood and it’s either none is in that space or by time you do get to it, all your energy is gone. I don’t even fool with the bull worm because I’m already struggling enough to get the supplies I need to make items and honestly the rewards on the bull worm is not worth it. I need coral, wood, diamonds, energy points or ways to boost energy, or straight gold. Lastly, the mini challenges I lived for !! Im a little competitive and love when I’m in first place and love when someone take my place cause now I have a reason to be on my game for hours just to beat the person that beat me ! They was coming rapidly in the beginning but since level 9 or 10 I have not seen any challenges. I need the developing team to see this review and understand them mini challenges are super fun and need to be often. As soon as one end, fudge it get another one started.
I’ve never written a review on the App Store but as a full grown adult, I truly love this game. Most of the negative reviews are in reference to not having enough energy. This is my two cents - trust the developers. As someone who has completed all of the available locations.. you don’t want to rush through this game. I will admit when I first downloaded the game there was not enough available energy. But, I have been playing for probably almost a year now and the developers have added SO much. I actually love the setup they have now and hope they don’t change it too much going forward. I love that the blue jelly fish multiplier encourages/rewards you for logging in everyday. Getting that 3x energy makes a big difference. This isn’t the kind of game you sit on for hours+. I usually play for a bit before bed and if I’m really working toward a task I’ll make sure to hop on for 5-10min throughout the day. I do spend money on the game but only $5-$10 here and there so it is definitely playable without spending money - I am just impatient. Hence why I have completed all locations and am here telling you it’s OK to take it slow, the game is worth it. There is truly nothing quite like it on the App Store (I’ve looked).
Ima just state that I LOVE this game! Great concept, story is equated with the actual show. I think that it’s very hard to get energy and when you do get “50 energy’s” it takes all and still needs more to clear one simple path.. kind of annoying. Either they should make it less energy to clear the way or just more energy earned.. I would really love if you guys put more into the city itself like having people (fish) from the show walk around in your little town.. maybe going into their homes and businesses. The way it is with 3 characters gets old and doesn’t make the city really look like a city. If you make that I think it would be cool if you could even interact with them like small sales for energy or something. I really just think it needs a more active city and fun things to do while waiting for energy because as of right now I clear a rock and log out of the game because I can do nothing more with the game to constantly play. I love playing games on my phone especially when laying down for bed. I’ll be on games longer than an hour if it allows it but this one sadly gets tops 5-10 min. I had high expectations for this game and I know it just came out (I was on the waiting list to download) but it could do way better .. please add more things to our city to make it more realistic of a city. I’m tired of looking at 3 characters following each other. Thank you very much! Excited to see where this game goes and if changes happen I will rewrite and star my review.
I have been playing this game for months now, but ready to delete from my phone due to behind the scenes updates (that they don’t mention) and annoying pop up purchase options. Developers keep changing the amount of energy you get back from the energy jellyfish. It’s now basically nothing, so instead of getting maybe 400 energy back from the jellyfish, I get 20. It’s insane ! Support said it’s to “keep players engaged”, but it’s literally doing the opposite. What’s the point of logging in everyday when you’ve completely diminished the one benefit ?! My other issue is with the sales offers. They pop up EVERYTIME you switch screens, and there is always multiple. Show them once when you log in & that should be it. I shouldn’t have to click out of them 10+ times! Also, they cross out the “real value” of the purchase options to make it seem like you’re getting some great deal when in reality things are NEVER that original price. To me, that’s shady advertising. And don’t forget to check all the “deals” if you’re making a purchase - they’ll make deals the same price, even though one gives you way more than another. Just another way to decieve your players Would also like to add that developers have completely forgot about the base game & are completely wrapped up in money grabbing events. I have over a million coins with nothing to spend it on, and explorer points no longer have value, so getting them is pointless. Please put some effort into the actual game to make it worth playing again.
I’m really glad I found this game. I haven’t played an iPhone game in a very long time, but this one’s got me hooked. This is a very well made game with a lot of details and references for spongebob fans. I really appreciate the work and love they put into this one. Been playing daily for a couple weeks now, and there is still so much content to explore. While some people are complaining about the energy system, I feel like it makes sense. Sure it can be annoying at times, especially when you have multiple objects blocking your way that needs 100+ energy to clear. But a system like this makes the game progression more stable, and also keeps you from being glued to the phone lol. And as you progress further, more ways to fill energy and gather resources become available to you. Watching ads are the easiest way to fill up the energy. And while no one really likes watching ads, this game implements them well by giving you the option watch ads or not, instead of forcing them on you or making you pay. There are also ways to fill up energy by buying diamonds, but I’ve been playing free to play. Overall as a spongebob fan from childhood, this is currently my favorite game on my phone. Hopefully they continue supporting this game for a while. Looking forward to future content! Edit - Latest updates: They changed it so you can’t watch ads as much as you want to fill up energy. I feel like this makes the energy system more tedious, forcing you to wait instead of giving you the option to speed up the waiting process by watching ads. I hope they bring this feature back or find another way to balance the system.
This is easily one of the best games I have ever played. The plot is interesting and accurate to the characters of the show and it’s really fun to farm, collect, and debris locations with energy to complete quests. That being said, there needs to be either: additional ways to acquire energy quicker, or different and more convenient ways to collect important resources such as kelp, coral, metal scraps, sea flowers, and more. These basic items are cheaper in Bikini Bottom but once you clear them out it’s impossible to pay absurd amounts like 172 energy for 5 pieces of coral with an energy cap of 50. I would not mind as much waiting for my energy to fill but I can’t check the game every 50 minutes to make sure I’m getting my energy’s worth. If it capped at, say, 300, then you could leave the game for a longer period of time and have more to work with when you come back. It would make the game more enjoyable and give you something to return to that’s actually exciting, versus the 50 energy letdown that gets you virtually no where once you get farther along in the game. Another note: I would be willing to buy packages from the shop more often if there was decent offers and prices especially for the things you want like diamonds, pies, and energy. For example: $5.99 for 300 energy and a pie. I would buy a couple of those a month for sure!!! So, I think if your promotional packages were focused more on what the players actually need to complete and go further in the game, as well as collect more of an abundance of resources, they would become irresistible!
If you aren’t someone that wants to spend a ton of money on a game this isn’t for you. I will spend money on a game when it seems worth it this game is not. I’ve had this game about a week and I’ve already gotten to a point that I cannot move forward without buying resources. The energy bar only fills up to 50 and without finding more around the game or buying it you have to wait for your bar to fill back up to clear up the maps. Some things cost 120+ to break and that makes no sense at all. Maybe don’t cap the energy limit as low or maybe raise it as you progress? The price to production ratio is totally off. One of the only ways to get coins is to fulfill orders but the things that it takes to fill the orders take hours to make and you don’t get enough coins to warrant that amount of effort. I’m at level 18 and I’ve been saving my coins since 16 to build one building. Every time you fill an order it gives you points to level up along with the coins- that’s great, however, I level up faster than it takes to even save enough money to build the buildings that correspond to my level and now I have 5 different buildings to build with not enough coins to build them. 300 coins an order on average and 20-30,000 to even build anything. Also there isn’t a way that you can put everything in your inventory to plan where you want anything and it’s just annoying to move things around.
As other reviewers have noted, the energy and resource disparity is a major problem. It caps at 50 and that doesn’t expand… I’m currently level 22, on the 7th world, King Krab’s Castle. Clearing 1 item costs anywhere from 145 to 300 energy in that world. What’s worse is they output the same number of resources per item. Need wood? Spend 260 energy to clear a log and receive 3-5 wood max. That’s waiting 5 hours minimum with Gary giving energy to clear a single item, but cost for the light wood board is 6 wood and two shells… so hours for no progress at all. Getting around this map takes absolutely forever, even if the maps and items are creative and engaging. As someone else said pies are hard to acquire, and there is no point playing the events because you waste precious energy for trash prizes. The order board is totally skewed, you spend a lot of high value resources to get minimal reward that causes you to level up way too fast. 150 energy for an order that cost me 600 energy at this level… worthless. Recommendation to new players, stay at the lower worlds and collect every resource, even though the game encourages you to travel, it’s a pay trap. After world 5 you will have to pay or stop playing. This is fun until they box you into paying to progress. Great concept, but terrible execution for energy and resource metrics.
