R-Type Dimensions EX is a masterful tribute to the golden age of shoot-'em-ups. This collection features pixel-perfect ports of the original R-Type and R-Type II, but the real genius is the 'Dimensions' twist: at any moment, you can toggle between classic 2D sprites and modern 3D polygons. It is a seamless transition that highlights just how timeless the level design and enemy patterns are.

The mobile port handles surprisingly well with touch controls, though it really shines with a MFi controller. The addition of an 'Infinite Mode' is a godsend for casual players who want to see the later, notoriously difficult levels without the frustration of perma-death. For purists, the Classic Mode is as brutal and rewarding as it was in the arcades. It’s a comprehensive, high-quality package that treats these legendary shooters with the respect they deserve.

Mastering the Force

Your 'Force' pod is your greatest tool. Attach it to the front or back of your ship to absorb fire, or launch it into enemies to deal damage remotely while you stay in a safe corner.

Love the game. Please add controller support. The only way to play R-Type at the beginning and how I like to play it is with a joystick! Go play the Turbographx 16 R-Type to figure out what is missing...

R-Type as I remember it. But with a “3D” option and freshened music. It’s not full screen because the game was 4x3. The remixed music sounds cool, it’s still MIDI (which has charm), but the tempo of the songs is a little too fast (level 1:2 should be more ponderous, not a dance song). The 3D graphics are actually 2.5D. Parallax scrolling backgrounds, some reflections, and more shading. The ships have depth R-Type 3 would be a welcome addition. Now can I try R-Type tactics on my iPhone? Gripes, a ability to resize Fire/Force buttons would be welcome. BUG: Holding down rhe fire button at the beginning of play makes joystick not work. Release button & move joystick will clear that up. iPhone 11

The game handles quite well, even with touch controls. If you like R-Type and are on the fence because you’re unsure about the mobile experience, I say go for it. Sure, it doesn’t match the experience of a proper setup, but it’s a cool way to experience the classics while you’re away from your CRT.

The game R Type Dimensions has a whole lot of cool features. I can use the slow mode and it eases the difficulty during gameplay. It also makes passing through harder stages less tight. I can also use the fast paced feature if I want to pass through the east stages. That is why the game is so fun.👍😍😍😍😂😂👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Game seems good from what I can tell, but the lack of controller support means I definitely regret buying this.

Very nice remake, unfortunately doesn’t support gamepads. If it did, it would be a 5* game to me. Download/purchase the Dotemu versions for gamepad support.
