Our Expert Score

87/100

Murder in the Alps is one of the most atmospheric hidden object games I've ever played. It feels less like a casual mobile game and more like a playable Agatha Christie novel. The 1930s Alpine setting is beautifully realized, and the artwork is top-notch, capturing both the beauty and the isolation of the mountains.

What sets it apart is the narrative focus. You aren't just clicking on random lists of items; you’re investigating a crime, interviewing suspects, and uncovering a genuinely compelling mystery. The integration of the hidden object scenes into the story feels natural rather than forced. It’s a slow-paced, methodical experience that rewards attention to detail. If you love a good 'whodunnit' with high production values, this is an easy recommendation.

Addicting game, but not addictive in the length of playtime per day!! Developers, heed advice please

Such a fun game, seriously, so much potential for it to be one of the biggest murder mystery hits in mobile games. You guys may want to do sponsors with certain gamers to get the game out there again in the gaming community, because this is seriously one of the only good murder mystery games out there. So fun. I understand the cost must be pretty high with the beautiful art and everything, but I do think that you guys need to increase your player base and the length that these players stay on the game at one time. Make it a system where you can earn energy not just by spending money, but by engaging with the game a lot more. You guys can also charge players for certain events or different outfits or different secret endings, especially if they’re really engaged with the game and are willing to spend more to get certain perks and benefits! At one time, I can only play at most 3 minutes and maybe 4 events, and then I have to wait for the next day. It’s just not enough play, and it’s not satisfying and feels like a player cannot make progress hence they’d give up on this game in search for games they can play longer on: example being RPGs or such. That is what I did because I eventually found this playtime too short and too unsatisfying and left for a few years. You can even introduce a multiplayer game experience to attract big friend groups to play the game together.

One of my favorites… but..

This app is honestly one of the best and most fun murder mystery games I’ve downloaded!! It’s not only a fun pastime, but also very stress-relieving and entertaining! As an aspiring journalist myself, the creators have done an awesome job making the central focus of every story. The chapters themselves took me a while to get through, and it made me appreciate them more. However, I have had this app since 2019, and I’ve played through all the stories now. While it did take me a long time to do that, the biggest reason I cannot give this app five stars is because of the time it takes to make a brand new chapter. Because I’ve been loyal to the app, I’ve sometimes waited months on end for a release with no announcement or time frame from the app creators. For this latest chapter, I’ve waited close to a year if not longer with the same situation. I know that they put a lot of energy and detail into every chapter released, but it is very hard to keep my attention on this app when there is no consistency or information when it comes to the release of a new chapter. Overall, if you are a new user, I would highly suggest getting this app in hopes that new chapters will be more available to you since you were starting later. Again, this game is probably one of the best when it comes to actually playing through the murder mystery firsthand [as Anna].

I’ve been replaying the various mysteries for years

I love this game and I love the replay ability and trying to find all the hidden collections items. This is a game of patience and if you’re impatient perhaps it’s not for you. My favorite part about this game is the multiple mysteries that occur at different locations and the connection some cases have with each other. The art and details is another thing I love about the game and can see why it takes so long for new mystery cases to be made as they are hand drawn/painted I believe. I also enjoy the voice acting. The cat is fun to pet and hear meow and purr when you do. While I don’t like how fast you loose energy, I do understand that if you had enough energy to finish a case within an hour or 3 then you’d end up finishing all the cases within a week probably then have to wait a up to half a year for another new one or replay a previous one. It’s better to space playability out and play other games while you wait for the recharge. This is a game that requires patience which from what it sounds like many players don’t sadly have but to each their own, I suppose. I like to replay mysteries because sometimes after a while I forget part of the mystery I previously played so it nice to play again to remember what happens especially since some cases have mentions or references to other cases.

Wonderful and compelling but…

I wish I’d known from the jump that this game would be such a money-guzzler. The storylines are interesting and the graphics are very good, but it takes a ridiculous amount of energy to do something minor, like handing an object to another character. Because every single thing uses up energy, you run out extremely quickly. The rate at which the energy is refilled is like molasses. And if you bite the bullet and pay the $2.99+ to actually be able to play the game, then it’s money wasted because it doesn’t even get you 5 minutes of game play. I’ve spent more money than I ever wanted to because I got so into the plots and twists that I had a hard time putting the game away. I’m really frustrated both with myself and the design of the game. My advice: download this game if you have unlimited funds (because you will blow through it like wildfire) or you have the patience and self-restraint of a saint. Otherwise, unfortunately, I don’t recommend this game. I hate to even say that because the game is really really fun and you can tell there was a lot of thought put into the plot and characters and graphics. But ultimately, it’s too expensive. If tasks cost less energy and the energy was refilled faster than 24+ hours, I would recommend this game to everyone I meet! I just don’t have the impulse control to play a game like this.

I love this game BUT...

This is such a well developed game. I have loved every aspect of it so far, BUT there’s one big drawback. The game itself is free, but everything you do uses energy, & some things take a lot of energy, such as simply watching the comic storyline so you know what’s going on. I don’t think there’s even a way to skip it if you wanted. So, they don’t explain all this when you start playing, & they give you some free energy to keep you going long enough to really get into it. Then you have to stop because you run out of energy, & you have to either pay (way too much for what you’d get) to instantly have more energy & keep playing, or you have to wait over 26 hours to totally rebuild your energy! You CAN play again in less than 26 hours, but that’s how long it takes to totally restore your energy. You can wait several hours & still not have enough to do certain things, or only have enough to play for a few minutes, literally. This seems to be such a well made game that I would actually buy it if they had a version that cost a few dollars & I didn’t have to run out of energy so quickly. Or if it didn’t take so long to rebuild the energy & it didn’t deplete so rapidly I would love it. But there is no way I’m paying $2.99 for just a few minutes of play!!! I wish the developers would reconsider ways to improve this one aspect of the game.

Best and Worst Game on The App Store
Wed Mar 20 2019 Pmarie919

This game is by far one of the best and worse crime mystery/hidden object games available on the App Store. Visually it is amazing but the worst and most disappointing part is the amount of energy needed for every little thing as well as how long it takes to regenerate. I don’t believe it should cost so much for more energy when it’s utilized so quickly as well as the ridiculous and minimal energy you’re given after so long of waiting. Then when you’re in the middle of a hidden object scene and run out of energy, you have to spend all your regenerated energy again to do the same things you’ve already started before. It does not pick up exactly where you left off. For example, If you are in a hidden object scene and have already done a few tasks and found items but run out of energy, none of what you found before that is crossed out, stays crossed out so you have to waste the same regenerated energy to even try to get passed what you have already done. Why should it take 30 energy to watch a scene or open a door? There has to be a way to get free energy elsewhere. You look so long and hard for collectibles and when you finally find one you only receive 5 energy which does no good for the amount needed to do anything at all. This would be the perfect game if it offered free energy or daily spins or any incentives for how much energy it takes for tasks. Other than that, great visuals and presentation!

Not a mystery game!

This is billed as a mystery game, and it kind of is, but 80% of the time that I spent playing it you are actually just “finding objects” in a messy room, like ispy. There are occasionally puzzles too, it’s not primarily an action/conversation based interactive game, which it seems like it is from the ads etc. It has little snippets of that in between these other things. For example, in the morning my character woke up, and then had to search for fifteen items before finding her hat, and I couldn’t leave the room without it. Then someone gets murdered and first you have to go to the kitchen and find a knife (again you’re really finding 10-15 items each time you look for something so unless you use the hints it takes forever, and then they limit your hints if you ask for too many) then you go back and they say, go back and find a magnifying glass, then you do that, then go backAnd find some baking soda, three items that could have been found at once, or even just find the one item instead of fifteen!…no interaction with characters, all just finding these objects which you don’t even need, all you actually need is the one object. Not for someone who wants to actually interact with a story. Also, the complaints about energy usage stand. I would way rather just watch an ad, or even just pay for a game, but you can’t do that, you pay over and over in little bits, or you wait 24 hours and then your energy gets used up almost immediately. Very stupid design.

It’s interesting,fun comes with a lot of twists,but it’s rlly time consuming!

I’ve had this game for over 2 years now and I still haven’t finished all of them! It has nice graphics and fun gameplay and I play it at night and in the morning! I would recommend this to anyone with patience or someone who is willing to spend money on this game. I would also like to recommend this to anyone with a strong stomach and basically anyone who got through the whole squid game without being intrigued or disgusted. What I think should change and what all of think should is The Who long energy takes to regain and how much is used during the gameplay. What I mean is that when you do a hunt or when you are looking for something in the game it could take 100+ to get all the items out of the way. Then it would cost a lot of money or a lot of patience to even play again. I know they have to make money and all since it they have to pay everyone but they should they should think more about the gamers then their money. They keep saying they will change it but it still takes forever it still costs a lot of energy and it takes a ad or two to get so more energy. Another pro is that it doesn’t have a bunch of ads. That was my take on Murder in the Alps thank you and hope this helps before you download.
