Valentine's Day theme update
Monthly Dystopia is a striking narrative-driven simulation that feels like a blend of 'Papers, Please' and a dark, satirical visual novel. It tasks you with surviving in a totalitarian state where your decisions actually matter. The monochromatic art style perfectly encapsulates the bleak atmosphere of the setting. It’s a game about the 'banality of evil'—managing mundane tasks while the world around you crumbles.
The writing is sharp and often uncomfortably realistic. You have to balance your loyalty to the state with your own survival and the well-being of those around you. It isn't 'fun' in the traditional sense, but it is deeply engaging and thought-provoking. If you enjoy games that make you question your own morality and the systems we live under, this is a must-play.
Compelling dystopian narrative
Atmospheric noir art style
Branching paths and multiple endings
Challenging resource management
Your daily income is meager. Prioritize food and heat over luxury items. If your health or sanity drops too low, you'll be unable to work, leading to a quick game over.
Occasionally, you will be asked to report on your neighbors. Doing so increases your standing with the state but may close off certain narrative paths or rebel-aligned endings.
A single successful run takes about 2-3 hours, but the multiple endings encourage several playthroughs.
Yes comrades! You heard it right. This wonderful piece of propaganda the Party has given us is insight into the daily lives of other comrades! *Psst…* Down here, comrade. Quickly, I don’t have much time before the thought police catch on! Big Brother is going to pay for what they did to Winston, and YOU’RE going to help us! Now, as you’re reading this, I am already dead. YOU have a chance though! Download Monthly Dystopia and JOIN THE RESISTANCE to TAKE DOWN THE FASCIST PIGS! And comrade, remember: DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER AND THE PARTY!
The positives of this game definitely revolve around its atmosphere, and its ability to recreate the oppressive, tyrannical world of 1984. You can tell the environments were hand crafted, and I enjoyed each reference to the book. I also liked the system of having 30 days, so you felt like you had to live each day and survive under the eye of Big Brother. With that said, the story is extremely limited. Yes, the characters in 1984 had to be careful about when they spoke, but they still had plenty of conversations. In this game, you go from saying one sentence to Julia at work, to complimenting her eyes twice, to suddenly she’s removing her clothes. There’s no buildup for anything that happens, events just happen suddenly and you either survive and the game ends, or you’re caught by the Thought Police and the game ends. It’s nice that there’s different endings, but again, the endings are so abrupt that there’s not much motivation to replay to see them all. Overall, I would only recommend this game to big fans of 1984, because the recreation of that world is where most of the enjoyment comes from.
Haven’t even got to half an hour of game play and I am absolutely at awe at how good this game looks, sounds and plays. You truly will feel immersed with in a few minutes of game play. I can’t tell that there was a load of effort to create this game.
There’s such a small amount of atmosphere that it becomes dreadfully repetitive. You do the same thing every day and going to work seems awfully tedious for no apparent reason. There’s no opportunities to go out to a pub or see things in downtime. That brings me to the time management there’s some days i can only do one or two things before work and it becomes less of a game mechanic and feels like more of a bug. Lastly, it appears that my grandfather has no need to eat food, ever. Other than that good game just needs a little expansion and a good old polish.
Definitely different from other games I’ve played with similar concepts. I like this way more even though I’m just getting started I can tell it’s super interactive and has a deep storyline.
Incredible game. Amazingly designed and intuitive. No tutorial given and none needed. This game plays like life. A snipet of life in a terrible place. This is a game I will be recommending to friends for years to come.
Great game, loving it so far. Only issue that is why I cannot give this game 5 stars is because on day 17 on the train ride home from work the game keeps crashing causing me to lose progress and have to restart only for it to keep happening
Happy to see the gamified version of the 1984 book. more impressive experience than I expected. atmosphere, mechanics and story of the game just hits diffent. definitely recommended, worth every penny 👍
