Kingdom Rush Battles is the pinnacle of the TD genre on mobile. It takes everything that worked in the previous titles and injects it with a fresh sense of scale. The hero system is the best it’s ever been, with heroes that feel like they have a genuine presence on the battlefield rather than just being a walking stat-boost. Moving your hero to intercept a break-away troll is a pulse-pounding moment of tactical control.
The level design is masterfully balanced. Every stage feels like a puzzle with multiple solutions, though some of the 'Iron Challenges' will definitely test your sanity. The sheer variety of towers and their specialized upgrades means you can tailor your defense to your specific playstyle. Whether you're a long-time fan or a newcomer, this is the gold standard of tower defense.
Over 18 unique tower abilities
Epic boss fights
Unlockable heroes with distinct skill trees
In-game encyclopedia of enemies
Identify where multiple paths converge. Place your high-damage Mage towers there, supported by Barracks to stall enemies in the blast zone.
Select and move your Hero across the battlefield to plug gaps in your defense. Each Hero has two active abilities that charge over time.

I’ve been playing since it released. I’m actually a huge fan of the Kingdom Rush series in games since I was younger and even at 25 I am still enjoying it. This game is very possible to play without paying but I will say it’s tough once you run into pay to play people, still not impossible. Their is daily chest that is nice and other small events that have been nice. The events have been very unfair since it’ll match you up with high level/trophy players with paid hero’s or towers which is almost impossible to win against. Overall, game is great and has extremely high potential if they can add an affordable battle pass instead of trying to focus on expensive packs. I believe they need to add a multiplayer Co-Op mode or even a same screen mode in which ipad users can play on one screen. This game reminds me a lot of Bloons TD or even SuperCells Clash Royale in which I played my whole life. I feel this game has very high potential with time but as of right now it is not the time. I enjoy the art, the style and I love IronHide. Please don’t give up on the game and keep striving! From Co-Op, Single player missions and even other add ons to the game, I can see this game going far, even for new players and against bigger companies like super cell games. I whole heartedly believe you guys are really close to something here. Best wishes to the team and good luck! All the love from Oregon! -Jimmy
I’ve been seeing alot of reviews saying the paid to win isn’t that bad, and while it’s true that’s yes you can get max level cards if you just play enough, it’s also true that YES THEYRE ARE CARDS YOU LITERALLY CANT GET UNLESS YOU PAY, if you click on card pools there’s a few cards you literally can not get unless you pay for them, this includes bresad the dragon, the epic necromancer card, and even magus spell born, maybe they add it to the card pool later but the fact that paid to win players get access to cards that you literally can’t get means the game is indeed PAID TO WIN. I love ironhide and I’ve played every iteration of KR games since 2014 from the OG to frontier, origins, revenge, alliance, and even the iron marine games. And yes battles is still fun but I’d be remiss to say that it’s completely paid to win and the game isn’t rewarding enough with new cards, you have a 1 percent chance to get a legendary right now in the game, and it’s only form certain chests and that you can get them from, it’s not rewarding enough when the whale can just spend 20 and get it maxed leveled then your only a few hundred trophies in, plus’s the paid to win cards have insane effects and stats that just isn’t fair for your normal F2P player
As someone who has loved tower defense games for years, I really love this multiplayer game. There are some of the paid characters that are incredibly hard to beat, which can be super annoying because you feel like you don’t even have a chance if you’re not also paying for these. But it’s not impossible to beat them. It can just be really, really, really annoying. Anyways, besides that it’s super fun. I just don’t like that people can buy their way to winning where I feel like I don’t even stand a chance half of the time. I used to not even agree with this take but as I have progressed in the game, I feel like I’m stuck with the same characters desperately trying to win against these paid characters, and it’s just gotten more difficult as time goes on. This is coming from someone that has literally tried so many different strategies because I didn’t want to believe that I was losing because they have a better character, right? But no. I feel like I have a really good shot at winning when playing against normal non-paid characters but when it comes to the paid characters, it’s literally a 90% chance that the other person is going to win.
I feel the need to preface this by stating im a massive fan of the series. I remember playing the original on Armor Games at my school’s library computer. Now I see a lot of people saying this game isn’t pay to win because everything can be earned through playing. You are correct. That’s not the issue though. Take the current even for example. To get scrolls you need to with event matches were you can be placed against an endgame player. Losing wastes an event ticket, you need to win event match to get scrolls to summon the green dragon (don’t remember it’s name). Or you can pay about $110 and get all the gems required to roll 60 times for the guaranteed unlock. This dragon hero is incredibly overpowered. I played multiple matches where other players only need 1-2 towers down to completely steamroll me in the event match mode. In theory yes I could play for 100s of hours lose thousands of match to finally be on the same level as a whale who thinks spending money on a mobile game means something or I can uninstall the game. To people who would “just delete the game” that’s what I did I wrote this review because this franchise meant a lot to me back when it was a flash game and to see it become a degenerate pay to win clash royale clone is really sad. I used to think Iron Hide Games was cool and talented but nope they have chosen to make more slop. It’s sad I hope they change.
As a devoted fan who has bought and enjoyed every single Kingdom Rush game (I’m still actively playing Origins and Frontiers), it is devastating to see one of my most beloved franchise abandon its core principles. The original games were the gold standard for pure, skill-based Tower Defense, proving that strategy, not spending, was the key to victory. This spin-off, Kingdom Rush Battles, has completely sacrificed that integrity for aggressive micro-transactions. The balance is broken beyond recognition. You are constantly matched against players who have paid for statistically superior heroes, towers, and perks that turn the game into a completely unfair fight. When I see a premium unit like the Dragon, I already know I've lost the game. The dragon hero has the ability to instantly kill my hero, stun my entire army, and unfairly boost their gold. This id a clear, disgusting Pay-to-Win advantage. This is no longer a competition of wits or clever tower placement, but a test of your patience and wallet depth. It is heartbreaking to watch a developer with such a strong legacy turn its back to their growing, loyal fanbase and ruin brand identity for greed. If you cherish the balanced challenge of classic Kingdom Rush, save your time and money and stick to the old games. This is a massive disappointment.
I have five stars to get this seen- I would rate it 2. This game is really a lot less strategic than you might think. Sure, it’s a tower defense but the boosters are genuinely overpowered. As the brood mother and shaman has no efficient counter, you’ll be sitting there scraping up anything you can to throw at the brood mother while the enemy farms gold, waiting for you to kill it. The reason is because the brood mother has magic resist, making the only high damage dealers in the GAME useless against it. The towers are not very useful, so your hero is going to be the biggest weapon here. Speaking of heroes, the dragons. Please man, I’m begging you to nerf them. I got steamrolled instantly by a person who spent ~$10 to buy a dragon that can instantly kill the enemy hero and everything around it, effectively making it impossible to win because, like I said earlier, the heroes are very important. The trophy matchups are also completely wack because I’ll get matched with a player around 120 trophies above me with towers that are effectively overpowered at my level. It just isn’t fun at this point and could definitely use a rework.
I think the app is very well polished with a lot of engaging content and the mechanics are fun. But as a gamer there’s a lot of problems. Mainly that the game has little to offer and hides it behind an uninformative ui and one of the worsts grinds I’ve ever seen. Days and hours in, only loosing a handful of games, I’m still using the exact same spells, hero’s, and cards, simple because the game hasn’t given me anything new that’s not dramatically worse than what you start with. That leads to another point it’s great to have a lot of content but if it’s completely competitive useless and will never get used, be it a spell or tower, then it might as well not be there. Even the pricing is outrageous again to increase the grind and hide poor tower balance and poor content. I don’t want to see games this good hide behind there amazing start, bc it is an amazing game. But if the these towers aren’t balanced properly where everyone isn’t using the same 3 towers then the player base will burn out. And if the UI isn’t worked at no new player base will grow bc it’s most mandated to have played other KR games to understand a lot of components to the game.
Kingdom Rush Battles is a fun and challenging tower defense game that really rewards strategy and careful planning. I love setting up my towers, timing my spells, and creating choke points that punish enemies, especially when facing players who rely solely on paying to win. It’s incredibly satisfying to see a well-planned setup melt through waves of tough enemies. However, the game can feel frustrating at times, particularly when matchmaking pits free-to-play players against whales who have over-leveled cards and towers. While skill and strategy are powerful, sometimes raw stats from purchased cards can make certain matches feel unfair. The gem economy is slow, and progression feels gated unless you invest time or money, which can be discouraging. Despite this, I find myself coming back again and again, because the gameplay is deep, the deck-building is engaging, and winning through pure strategy feels genuinely rewarding. If you enjoy tower defense and don’t mind occasional pay-to-win matchups, this game is definitely worth playing — but patience and persistence are key.
