Underdark Defense is a dark, atmospheric tower defense game that feels like a mix of 'Survivor' style progression and traditional defense mechanics. Your goal is to protect the Eternal Flame from waves of encroaching darkness. The strategic depth comes from how you place your towers and, more importantly, which buffs you choose as you level up during a match.
The one-handed controls are perfectly implemented, making it easy to play on the go. The 'Hero' system adds another layer, as different guardians provide unique abilities that can turn the tide of a desperate battle. It’s a bit more hardcore than your average casual game, but the sense of victory after clearing a difficult stage is immensely satisfying.
Intuitive one-handed controls
Roguelike buff selection system
Powerful hero-based gameplay
Atmospheric dark fantasy art
Place your highest damage towers near the Eternal Flame for last-line defense. Focus on area-of-effect buffs early on to manage large swarms.
Earn trophies from victories to level up your guardians. Each level-up allows you to choose between randomized buffs that significantly alter your towers' power.
The game uses an energy system, but energy can be replenished over time or through rewards.
Short version: great game, great progression speed, very fun, good design, not a cash grab. I love it and praise the developer. Long version: I’m really impressed with this game, it’s fun and the progressing rate is very reasonable. There is the option to watch adds to speed things up a bit, but it doesn’t make it painfully slow if you don’t watch adds and none are forced on you, so it really feels optional and like you’re actually purchasing a benefit, not removing an annoyance. On top of that, it is a permanent add removal, but the “watch an add to get x” options stay and just become free. So I absolutely paid the reasonably priced remove adds forever button. It’s no different than if I had to pay that price to buy the game, except I got to trial for free and there’s extra benefits. I’m impressed, it’s an actual fun game, not a cash grab, and I hope this developer makes more, this is a rare find today and I’m super pleased.
this is my second account ive had to create to play this game, im not bothered by having to create a new account but what does bother me is i forgot the reason i uninstalled in the first place. now i remember why thanks to my second play through. the random crashes! nothing worse than spending 10-15+mins in a game and then all of a sudden it crashes and when you go to start back up, there is no continue game. to me this is what kills the fun for me. no rewards or anything to show for it just treated as the player gave up. the game is fun, the challenges are plenty and the difficulty ramps up slowly but not to a point where its boring. the game is a fun game but because of the random crashes and no way to continue the match when that happens, i cannot see myself playing this game anymore until there is a form of support for the player back end. to me time is the most important element. even if the it wasnt a crash, it would be nice to be able to pick back up later and continue playing. especially considering a internet connection is required to play.
I've been bouncing between mobile games for a while trying to find something I could dump some time into. This game has finally hit all of the bases that I want in a game. It has gradual progression so you can gear up to beat tougher levels. It has tower defense so there's a decent amount of strategy into routing enemies cleverly. It doesn't force ads, only offering them for rewards which I appreciate. There's also a cute art style and it's INCREDIBLY gentle on my phone battery. It's easy to pick up when you just have a couple minutes to kill between tasks, like waiting to be called for an appointment or a short car ride (obviously as a passenger). Progress saves when closing the game so you can hop back in to where you left off. Best mobile time killer since Balatro for me!
I think the game is solid, but it could use some work. Things that are good: mechanics between items, towers, and heroes are fluid. They mesh well, and there is plenty to upgrade and do, making it a viable long term game. The graphics are simple, but that makes it easier to handle. Some games get so flashy that you can’t tell what is happening. Advertisements aren’t in your face. Customization is expansive, but I haven’t played long enough to determine if there’s just a meta at the end or if everything has a use for different scenarios. Things that could use work: I can’t stand games that have a million objectives to earn in a day, where each day it’s the same grind of objectives (I.e. build a tower > get coins. Open a chest > get coins.) To me these types of objectives are meaningless when I complete 50 in a single run. It detracts from story telling, and I think there’s an interesting story to build upon here. I wish the game was structured differently in that way. Another thing that could use work is the buildup of negative and positive buffs. There are so many buffs and debuffs that can be applied in a single round that I can’t always tell what has already been applied. If there was a way to show at the bottom or a corner of the screen or on the tower/boss what they’ve been affected by, it would help. I’m gonna keep playing this for some time, and hopefully my interest continues to stay!
This is the best tower defense I have played in years. This would be an amazing game on pc or mobile. The amount of game depth while not becoming the over cluttered mess that balloon tower defense has come is incredible. On top of that a great art style and theme keep it interesting . Lastly and the most important, making ads only help, and not mandatory, make this a 5 star game 100%. Not to developer: if you haven’t already please port this to steam. As long as it’s not to demanding, would definitely purchase it for pc. If you do release it to steam, I would just release it at 15-20 dollars, and remove the ads and just make it a in game gambling system. Your game play loop is more than good enough for the price tag. You could even remove the auto elite rolls, as pc players like grinds.
I didn’t expect much from this game, it looked cute but nothing special. When I downloaded it, the art shocked me. So much care and effort has gone into this game. The translations don’t make grammatical errors, I haven’t run into a single bug, and it just looks adorable and well polished. I kept expecting to run into forced ads, constant offers to pay money, or something else like that. However I genuinely haven’t seen anything off putting. There are ads, but they’re for things like doubling your rewards and not forced. I may purchase the no ads but that would be to support the developers, not because I feel like I need to. From where I am in the game so far, I would absolutely recommend it.
I love this game so far. I’ve only been playing it a few days, but I really like everything I’ve experienced so far. The rogue-like aspect, variation in towers, layers of equipment, and choice of heroes give sufficient depth to play-styles. There are a lot of things being tracked for ongoing rewards, lots of clicking to receive gifts/rewards. The interface is kind of busy, at least for my 6” screen. I feel like that’s pretty common in the early stages of all Korean mobile games I’ve played. I assume it calms down once I get farther into the game progression. Challenging game, but not too punishing. I appreciate the system shout-outs when someone beat a level after many failed attempts! Thank you for your hard work!
I downloaded this game because I was craving tower defense, and boy was I pleasantly surprised. There is quite a bit of strategizing to be done, and lots of different towers to try out. The frequent updates are also actually improvements (in particular I love the enhancements to stat boosting towers like Hero’s Statue). Haven’t run out of energy yet due to level ups giving me more, which confuses me but is definitely a positive. Love the many types of levels. The table giving percent damage dealt by each type of tower is sooooo useful. Suggestions: 1) I would like tower descriptions to reflect all the boosts I selected for that level. For example if I got the boost for 10% chance to stun twice, it should say in description “20% chance to stun”. Currently only range, attack, and crit chance boosts are reflected. 2) Cooperative dungeons never matches for me despite waiting a long time. Could maybe have it be scheduled to only be open thrice a day for 15 minutes each, to increase chances of players matching? 3) I’d love if selecting the hero gives a description of the hero. It’d be useful to know hero’s attack power, speed, etc. All in all worth the play
