I absolutely love this game. I have been a big fan of Kairosoft ever since I was a kid (I'm 19 now!) and I really believe they've upped their game. I'm so excited to see how Kairosoft games explore more with the concepts they used in this game. It was very interactive and you always had something to do, but whether or not you did them never REALLY meant game over or bad. You could let your town be a happy little village that's well cared for and everyone drives burger cars and all plants have butterflies and sparkles (true story, happened in one game I played) or you could work towards the end goal of a bustling big city or MORE. The use of generations is such a big thing for the gameplay. Your townspeople's children can move into your town and you can work off generations instead of the townspeople they offer! And everyone has passions and personalities! I'm hoping Kairosoft especially expands with characters and personalities+passions. It feels like a simple, STRESS FREE sim as long as you constantly remind yourself that the town will flourish as long as you do the BARREE MINIMUM but can always improve AND WILL IMPROVE if you give it the care.
I love all these Kairosoft games! I like to play strategy games, to keep my mind quick. I manage homeless programming for a social service agency in a big city. My mind has to stay quick! I have to plan strategies to resolve very complex issues. This may sound nuts, but these games have expanded my capacity to move resources (human and financial) to the correct places to get better outcomes. I can’t explain it, but it feels like I’ve gotten a lot better at my job, now that I play these games on the weekend! The data cruncher in me wants to break this apart, and figure out why these games are having such a positive impact on me at work. Lol! I don’t have time or the mental energy, though. So, I’m just getting these games for my team members now. Lol! I’ve dropped money on these games, because it’s SO WORTH IT!!! Even my boss is like, “How are you becoming so efficient?” I could make a Super Beets style commercial for Kairosoft. I’m SOLD!!! Lol!
Kairosoft always makes games of pretty high quality, so I will give them the five stars they deserve. Unfortunately, this is not a beginner-friendly game. There are so many things calling for one’s attention and resources that I have turned off the game multiple times to take a break from the game I am playing to take a break. This game is fun if you are already familiar with other entries in the series and know what you need to do. If you are new to Kairosoft games, I would not recommend this entry, but if you are a veteran of the franchise, this is a pretty solid game, and I would recommend it.
I’ve played a good number of Kairosoft games and Dream Island is a good addition to the series. If you have played any of the other Kairosoft games then you know how addicting these games can be. You can spend a good chunk of an hour Building up characters, organizing the layout of your town/city, and landscaping your town to fit your preferences. All games are repetitive to an extent but when the game world doesn’t support its content the game can lose its luster. The roads are a good example. The roads/streets up the land value but the characters treat all roads and walkways the same. They’ll drive on a road or sidewalk. Dream Isle residents don’t give f***k. It would be a nice added element and challenge to the game if you have plan how the residents get around. Still I enjoy the game series!
I hate that this game doesn’t save. It always resets from the beginning of the day if you close out. Which is annoying because it’s never super clear when the day ends either. Otherwise very fun game. It does get repetitive and it’s a drag getting through some of the notifications and stuff. I hate Japanese games for this reason - I’m too impatient for them. They like to take their time with dialogue and explanations and even the speed of closing out of those things is so slow. I’m tired of having to click out of the screen whenever something pops up, and there’s always a little lag. It’s minor but just makes everything extra slow.
A solid upgrade from Dream Town. More depth. Every building is 4-direction rotatable and you can toggle to see x-ray view into interiors or just exteriors. Residents can get jobs in town and you can actually see them inside the buildings at work. The town hall meetings are a fun new mechanic too. I just wish the timescale was slower so I can have more time to just appreciate watching the town in motion between maintenance sessions. I also wish it could be faster to gain territory so I can expand the town faster to accommodate all new residents that want to move in. All in all, a great game that could be fantastic with a few tweaks.
I have almost no complaints about this game. It’s really good and a good way to waste some time but the only thing I would say is, that it would be better if we can change their clothes and shoes. Their are clothes and shoes stores and it would be cool if they bought different clothes from there and wore them. Also I don’t really like how the kids end up looking just like their parents either the father or the mother, after a while it gets boring. I wish there was a way the way the child looks when they get older can be randomized that would make it way more exciting. Besides that this is a decent game. Please consider my recommendations, thank you :)
I love this game! I’ve played some others by this developer and they’ve all been great, but this takes the cake. It’s simple, yet complicated. There’s no big failures to be had, so it isn’t stressful, yet there’s tons to do and it’s fast paced enough that it keeps you busy while not being overwhelming. My only wish would be that you could disable some of the informational pop ups tutorial stuff, if you’ve already played, so you could just get past it. But otherwise, super addictive game that I’ve spent an embarrassing amount of time enjoying!
A while back, I took a look at Kairosoft's Zoo Park Story, my first review of one of the publisher's offerings in several years.

Dream Town Story, developed by Kairosoft, is a unique city-builder with brilliant mechanics. The game looks simple at first, but it gets very exciting once.
