Over 50 years ago in college, there was a group of us, both men and women, that played chess to wile away the hours on a Saturday night. We were socially inept and playing chess was the apex of our social life along with drinking cheap wine and playing folk music. Yes, we were nerds!!! We enjoyed the camaraderie and happily, many of our group are still in contact with each other today. We also considered ourselves quite the chess masters although in retrospect we were all pretty lackluster in skills. This “App” is very easy to set up and intuitive to operate. I set the difficulty scale at “low” and win about half the games. So now I’m playing chess again, drinking “expensive” wine, and playing the ukulele. Upward and onward!!
I like the app overall. Fun way to burn some time against a computer or do puzzles. The online match system seems dead. I have only gotten one match after attempting to get one for days. Also wishing the difficulty slider had a bit more info. The jump from one setting to another seems absolutely massive. At 1 the cpu blunders left and right. At 2-5 I cannot tell the difference between these numbers, difficulty jump is massive from 1. 6-10 is an even bigger jump but I can at least see a difference from 9-10 I am seeing an odd bug occasionally though that is extremely frustrating. In some cases I am seeing a pawn capture horizontally. In one case I moved a rook to capture a pawn only for it to move left and capture my rook. Not sure if the game got confused and thought the pawn was on the previous space. Overall confused by this and frustrated as it can instantly cost a winning game.
This is a good app to play chess with friends and other competitors via the net. Nice graphics that makes you feel like you are sitting in front of a real chess board. You can rotate the board to look at it from different angles. Nice. Has not crashed yet and seems stable and reliable. What could be better: Add a feature that allows the player to confirm if he really wants to resign or give up. A friend of mine has accidentally resigned from two games that were very competitive. No way to recover. Gone. Annoying. It would be nice to also have a little red dot show up next to the app when it is your turn. just like in many other games. While you get a notification, if you miss that, the only way to find out is go in and check the active games. Still a very nice app that I like. It could just be a bit better if the above issues would be addressed.
" It is the best game ever, in the whole wide world!" The graphics and the functionality of the game are without comparison. There are many options that allow you to adjust how you both view the board and also play the game. It would be nice if in the two player mode, that each player could change the way the board is viewed if they are on opposite sides of the tablet.
Of the chess apps I've tried, this is my favorite so far. The 3D graphics are very pleasant and easy to see. I have played others that have incredible graphics (and higher price tags), but they're not as easy on the eyes. This app has solid features that are simple to use. The ability to set up the board any way you like is great for practicing chess puzzles, etc. It's a sleek, fast and fun game of chess. There are a couple minor drawbacks. One, it doesn't appear to log the game in any way visible to the player. That is...you can't view a list of moves made in the game. Likewise, I've found no way to replay a game for analysis. These are very important features for improving one's game. This seems like an oversight to me, one that I hope the developer considers addressing in a future update. The other thing this game lacks is some kind of remote play option, such as over the internet or a network. This isn't a deal breaker for me, because that's not what I was looking for in a chess app. But it's worth noting. Overall, this is a solid chess app and a super value.
Still waiting for the day when the pieces on the board will be actual holographic pieces that stand on the board, but until then this is great. I like playing opponents with the board completely flat from the bird eye view with the pieces slightly angling depending on which side of the board they're on. Makes it even for players from both sides. I don't like playing when pieces are upside down for either opponent. Very easy to see and the new puzzle challenges are great! Glad to have found this chess app and I quickly bought it to eliminate adds. Completely worth it, keep up the great work guys. PS, Keep the board rotation feature in this, I like that too.
Hi! I really like this game format...went ad free...over and over again- says i am ....and somehow...ya’ll aren’t getting the memo...did it no go through? How do i refresh? If i wanted other games- would’ve signed up for them...-understand that somehow you make money on this stuff...but truly...it’s keeping me from give the 5 stars i’d like to give you...where do we go from here.... the type of game ads you are advertising, are pernicious and unwanted...advertise alternative energy or something better for we humans and as Chess players...for the love of something big and awesome...change the ads...and help us get them out of our game...thanks. Julia
I tried another 3D chess app first, and disliked its locked screen rotation and its easy (too easy) and normal (too hard) level modes. Finally decided to switch and tried this one. I love it. It gives me practice scenarios as well. So happy I switched. Edit: two things I would like to see: captured pieces remain visible on the side, and stats for playing against the computer. Then this would be a GREAT game app.
