By far my favorite chess app in the App Store! All in functionality and play/capabilities, and also this is a developer that - unlike a LOT of other developers, does not attempt to badger you with pay-for-play schemes using advanced features as reasons for silly subscriptions or further payment. They have never stopped “supporting” the app to move on to yet another app that must be re-purchased. They use the “old fashion” model of ‘updating and improving an already fantastic product’ to gather further business via reviews and word-of-mouth. IF there was an award for Customer Dedication and Satisfaction, they would certainly have a trophy. They continually update and support it with fantastic features that are challenging and entertaining. Forget about the other “glitzy” and “goofy” animated chess apps in the App Store. Those are for younger children, and off no challenge or configuration. Hats-off to this app and their developers!

I had so much fun in training mode

I rarely play chess. I know some beginner strategies like attacking the middle. But I just played my first game in the app under the watchful eye of the training mode. I was warned four different times that the coach doesn’t recommend that move. Every single time was a simple unforced error that would have lost my piece with no gain. Near the end of the game, the coach was silent. Undo a couple of times gave the same help the coach gave earlier to save my pieces. The end result was I won the game and felt like I earned it. Without the help I would have lost a lot of pieces and likely the game. Now I am motivated to play some more and improve my game.

Simple, easy to use, consistent human-like opponent

I love this app! You just play it. I can set it at any rating. I have it set at 1320, and it rates me around 1150, even though online I rate in the high 1400s. Either way, I get a great game every time with those settings. It took me a while to choose the right opponent strength, but the computer plays more like a real player than most. The computer moves immediately; I take all the time I want because I am just training on this app; and we wind up playing at the same level and it really helps me.

Great App. I enjoy the constant updates and the effort by developers to continually make it better. Thank you. However, I believe this is my third favorable review for this same app. There is a message from the app which states that the app's review requests are reset after every update. I am giving one last review simply to get rid of the message. This "reset" is a flawed practice. Get rid of it - rely on new customers' reviews - because pushing the patience of the app's veteran users will work against you in this forum. Still the best chess app out there, but even that has limits. Dear Developer, January 24, 2018, You have indeed updated the constant review requests. There are also many, many new features since my last app review. Ironically, I forgot to reflect this in the review section because of the lack of reminders. Five Stars! Best Chess App on the planet. Thank you!

Lower levels are very strong.

I love the graphics on this program ...by far the best of any program i've seen. The basic black-and-white is very good however however the geometric chess are, wild and difficult to see on a small iPhone screen. The chest engine is very good and it plays like a human player more or less although I found it makes blunders maybe in the beginning but then it comes on strong at the end which is like a human player. On it's lower levels like 1400 it's very strong I pit it against Shredder and it beat a 1600 Level easily. So I think it's lower-level designations are not very accurate. It has a hint feature which is rather slow it takes about two or three seconds for it to give you an answer which is a little bit slower than Shredder.

Very savvy a well thought out app for all levels of chess play.

I love playing or studying my moves in coach mode. I enjoy being able to fine tune the graphics of the board to suit my vision. It’s been a joy to use this app. Thank you to all those that helped put this app together and bring it to fruition. With the help of this great app and the time I put into practicing in the coach mode my pattern recognition and overall play has improved.

New Update and Animation Setting

Chess is an outstanding app. I recommend it highly. However, in the latest update the Animation setting does not allow enough fine control (a change from the earlier version). When the slider is set to 8, animation is quite slow. But when moved to the max setting, animation is exponentially faster.

Nice chess app, one bug to report

The pro version has some nice features, and I’ve enjoyed playing rated games with the rating increasing incrementally with each game. I like to save the PGN files for later analysis, and one quirk is that Mastersoft Chess is listed as the white player for every game, even if the computer is black and I’m playing white.
