Thanks for playing Canasta!
New on this version:
- Bug fixes and performance improvements.
This version of Canasta Classic Card Game is a masterclass in how to modernize a traditional card game for mobile. It manages to be both fast-paced for quick sessions and strategically deep for long-term players. The AI is genuinely impressive; it doesn't just play randomly but actually cooperates with you as a teammate, making the offline experience feel very close to playing with real people. I particularly love the customization options—being able to choose different card backs and backgrounds makes the game feel personal and high-end.
The objective—scoring 5000 points through Canastas—can take a while, but the developers cleverly included a 'one-round' mode and an auto-save feature that respects your time. The visual design is clean with large, easy-to-read cards, which is a huge plus for mobile accessibility. Whether you’re an old-school fan who calls it 'Argentine Rummy' or a newcomer looking for a great team-based card game, this app delivers a polished and endlessly replayable experience. It strikes that perfect balance between strategy, luck, and skill.
Advanced AI that provides a realistic teammate experience
Stunning 3D graphics with large, easy-to-read cards
2-player and 4-player game modes
Auto-save feature so you never lose your progress
Multiple customizable card and background themes
Work with your teammate to create melds of at least 7 cards of the same rank to form a 'Canasta'. Use wild cards (2s and Jokers) strategically to complete your sets, but be careful not to let the opponents block your discard pile!
Choose between different game modes like 'Classic 5000' or 'One Round'. Personalize your experience by selecting from various card backs and table backgrounds in the settings menu.
In the classic mode, the first team to reach 5000 points wins the game.
I have been playing since I was 8 and I’m now 78. We used to play with 13 cards, in this game we only get dealt 11 cards and it is extremely frustrating trying to meld 120 with that amount of cards. We ( my partner and I ) have been unable to make any the 120 meld, 3 times in one game more than once. That has never happened to me in all the years I’ve been playing until now. Can you please deal us 12 cards instead of 11? I’m so upset I’m considering going back to playing spades.
Although it’s fun to play, there are so many things that need fixing. The play seems to favor the computer opponent. And I have numbers to support this. For example, the number of times either player has 2 or more red threes should be random/ similar. However, in a bank of games I played, my “opponent “ had 2+ red threes 78% of the time and I had 2+ only 11% of the time. Not random. Also, the number of times I had a joker wild card during a time when I needed to play the 120 point meld was likewise significantly lower than my computer opponent. Lastly, there were times when I saw my opponent being allowed to meld using the top card of the discard pile. But when I went to make the same move, I got error messages saying I had to pick a card and that the discard pile was froze until I melded(which I believe to be correct). Why are there errors of play? These things significantly lower the enjoyment factor of the game. There are other examples too.
Game starts off well but after playing about 35-40 games, you suddenly start losing most of the games & all of the matches. Here are 3 reasons why: First, my partner consistently holds melds instead of playing them. I end up dumping “useless” cards that COULD have been played if my partner had laid down the meld. Makes no sense. Secondly, the opponent to my left takes my discard > 50% of the time, yet I rarely get a discard to use from the player to my right. So the computer obviously knows what I have and holds cards to be able to use my discards. For example, I just played a game where the player to my left held FOUR QUEENS until I discarded one - then took it and played multiple other melds to go out on the very next turn. Who holds cards like that? Finally, my initial deals ALWAYS have long runs of different cards whereas the opponents typically have several sets of 2 and 3+ cards. Every game has been this way. No way an actual deal would consistently give me 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,K,K,A - or something similar. That forces you to take many turns before being able to lay down melds - and my partner never plays melds as noted above. So, you end up losing. (In a game just now, my opponent was dealt 5 queens. I’ve never been dealt even 4 of a kind.) It’s clear the game isn’t being played fair by the computer, the worst being that my partner holds 15+ cards and never lays them down…so the other team goes out and we lose. No one plays this way IRL, so I will delete this game. It started off so well, but this happens. Very disappointing for what could have been a fun game.
I have played canasta since I was a kid in jr high school and I am 62 now but this game is nowhere near being correct. First off you must have 1 canasta in regular cards 1 canasta in 7’s and wilds. That doesn’t happen here. When the pile is frozen it can only picked up with a natural pair and has to be from the top card not the middle of the deck. Half the time my computer partner don’t even play when I meld or we can’t play at all. Other team will get 2 and 3 jokers on deal and we have absolutely nothing. Honestly thinking about deleting the app. It’s not fun if that is the way the game is played on the computer end. Now the game finishes a hand with no canastas. I had everything to meld and it would not let me pick up the discard pile, so now it cheats too. Made a decision, DELETE!
I’ve never played Canasta before, as a card game or as an app. This makes it easy to learn the basics and start playing. Since I haven’t played before I can’t comment on the technical aspects or rules of the game. I’m enjoying this, having fun learning, winning and losing. I’ve had no problems running the app and the gameplay is smooth. Graphics are pleasing, rules are available anytime. I’ll amend this if anything comes up, gotta get back to the game!
Card games are always tricky to play with 3 "computer players". first off i record games sometimes and have seen the computer win with incredible odds that don't add up. also opponent get rewarded a discard pile by only placing two cards into a meld. (the rule is three) sometimes your computer partner won't place cards that would allow for the conditions that would allow you to score points for no real reason. if you were to actually track a game you'd see that 9/10 times the computer seems to pick up the exact card they need while constantly presenting you with the exact one you don't. glad i learned to play the game though ill be picking up a couple decks of actual cards and deleting the app.
Please fix the bugs. I love this game but the errors are ruining it. Scores are switched, games are ended "prematurely"; I have sent in a request twice now with no response I've written a couple of times (same review) but you seem to be ignoring me???? The game would be more of a challenge if you removed the algorithm that ends the game when Ai has calculated the winner before one team goes out. That would also make for a better learning experience.
I am really enjoying this game. My stats are that I have won 2 out of 3 games. But I think some of my loss are due to error. When I have a meld of 5 cards and only 2 cards left in my hand the game won’t let me go out/down because I don’t have a canasta. But the 2 cards I have left would make a canasta. I think this is an error.
