Our Expert Score

88/100

Acecraft: Sky Hero is a high-octane throwback to the golden age of arcade shoot-'em-ups (shmups), but with a modern, sleek coat of paint. The bullet-hell patterns are mesmerizing and fair, providing that 'just one more go' feeling that is essential for the genre. Controlling your aircraft feels incredibly responsive, which is vital when you're weaving through a screen filled with neon projectiles.

What sets Acecraft apart is the 'Craft' system. Being able to customize your loadout with different wing types and secondary weapons adds a strategic layer to the twitch-based gameplay. The boss designs are a particular standout—massive, multi-phase mechanical titans that require both pattern memorization and quick reflexes to take down. It’s a premium-feeling arcade experience on mobile.

I like the art style, the music, and the Tom and Jerry Collab. I like the mechanics for partying like the Cuphead game. I like that it's not a Cuphead game (has nothing to do with cups or platforming). It's a flight/ shooter game from the birds-eye view. I like the story. I like the variety of enemies and attacks. I like the different projectiles. I like that, unlike Cuphead, your boss battles have a health bar. I don't like the tediousness of the Tom and Jerry collect cheese levels. There feels like there is just enough cheese, but not very forgiving. I don't believe the multiplayer is multiplayer enough. It would be cool if it were also in the story mode, not just the special events. I don't like the pay-to-play aspect of the game. Never have. I don't like the repetitiveness of the music. I would like to have more customized settings to switch the song. I don't particularly like the 2 of 2 ads. Usually, games have one ad, but two back-to-back is crazy. I don't like that it can crash, but I love that once I restart the app, I can return to the spot where I paused. I don't like that it runs only online and would like the story mode to be offline. Can't game on flights without wifi. I like the attention to detail and animation. I like the characters. I don't like how many buttons, nooks, and crannies there are in the app.

Awesome gameplay, horrible bloat.

This game has some solid core-gameplay; however, it loses stars because it is full of grubby mobile bloat. The core-gameplay is so much fun. The controls are intuitive, and it is super easy to get into, while still being challenging at the same time. The aesthetic is wonderful, with excellent art direction and animations. The sound design also fits well to the game’s style. The game really loses me when it comes to the monetization: Energy that makes you either wait, watch ads, or spend money to keep playing. Tons of items that all do essentially the same thing with various levels of “rarity” that simply increase the buffs given, encouraging you to spend more money to unlock better items. There are also too many menus, with a bunch of random “collectibles” that don’t really seem to do much except convince your brain that you need to keep playing to fill the catalog up. These predatory features that are implemented to get people to spend more time and money in the game actually seem to do the opposite for me. I get frustrated and overwhelmed by the amount of pop-ups signifying that I have new unlocks. I think I’ve spent more time in the menus than I have actually playing the game, which is a bit of a shame. All that being said, this game still slaps. It holds up extremely well when you put it against most of the other offerings available on the app store. I just wish we could go back to the days of buying the app once, and being able to just play it like any other game, but times have changed.

Truly fantastic! Absolutely Phenomenal!

I have not many words I can use to describe how absolutely perfect this game is. Truly I’ve never seen any mobile game much better than this. This is very high on the rankings for good mobile games already and it’s only been what a day or something? I was shocked when I saw the game and realized there is a story. There is barely any adds too unless you are watching a reward add which is great that you give us the option. I also enjoy how you can buy stuff but it’s not at all needed to play and it doesn’t beg you to buy it like some games do. But to address the elephant in the room, the similarity to Cuphead is shocking but fantastic. When I first played Cuphead I thought the game was really good! I loved the design, the gameplay, and most importantly the story and fights. This took my absolute favorite parts of that game and practically made a better version for mobile. I think being able to play such a great game for free with no forced advertisements is an insane but highly respected choice. Props to all of the fantastic people who made this because it is truly amazing.

Greed Flows through every orifice of this game…

TLDR: Game is cute but it’s a Greedy Gacha It’s a cute game with a cuphead-esque aesthetic. Scratch beneath the surface and it’s a greedy gacha. You’re inundated with ads and pop ups and deals to pay for this or that as soon as you step in. The UIs a mess with so many different events, ways to play, and most importantly ways to pay. You need dupes for your characters and weapons. I feel no desire to get Tom or Jerry just because I watched them as a kid, due to the sheer amount of dupes I need to max them out and their weapon. There’s 2 different battle passes that give resources, 3 if you include the growth pack. You begin to quickly run out of resources too for leveling characters, which will become an issue once you get more and more characters to level. You run out of gold because you need it for leveling gear too. Gear is boring stat increases and exists for no reason other than to have another thing siphoning resources. All so you can actually beat levels because enemies get ever increasing health and defense. Without these things they’d have to actually balance the game by making it about skill and create good challenge in the game… but then there’d be one less thing someone could potentially pay for. I don’t think I’ll stick around for very long. With every step I take, I just feel the devs hungry for money to be thrown their way. The moment I feel any big wall to my progress I’ll probably jump ship as will a lot of people.

Luckily as good as I hoped

When I saw your adds I immediately was not a fan but after a while of watching the actual gameplay instead of the annoying advertisement strategies I realized that the game had potential, after playing it for the first time I like how this isn’t just a blatant ripoff of cup head but rather a similar idea with its own creative approach. This game is like those bad galaga ripoffs I got adds for when I was younger done right. Right of the bat I personally don’t care for the story all that much but it’s like that for most mobile games. The tutorial is a little bit hand holdy (ie the graphic of a hand telling you what to do) I haven’t gotten super far but I personally am a fan of the longer levels and I wouldn’t be mad if the whole game was just one giant level. The ui is a tad confusing to navigate, and I find myself not really be super conscious of my health. I’m not a fan at all of the stamina or gems mechanic but I understand the adds. The wheel animation is pretty jank. This is one of the few mobile games I might be willing to spend money on (don’t take advantage of that) The game is pretty good so far, but seriously your advertisements actively made me want to not get the game. 👍

Good game. Life has been crazy in our climate. I’m thankful for what I have yet I am drawn to the fact that our country has taken a turn and we have been divided. Red and blue. Funny! In the 80’s and early 90’s. There were gangs in America that divided in to two groups as well. That was bad. They’d say. Well here we are. Your morals are in question now. Do we support what they do or do we support our humans? This won’t be punctuated properly but you get it. I don’t agree with taking people away from their families. I don’t support cutting funding for families. Kids. Elderly. Disabled and veterans. Yet half of the population don’t understand that it’s them it will affect. Statistically. Those are the areas that use it the most. Sad really. I feel for them without them understanding. Lastly I just say this. I don’t have empathy for those who wouldn’t in the same. When you speak down on people who don’t look like you or think like you and wish them the worst. That’s wrong. 26 dead and 79 wounded. Kids. Teens. Once anyone sees this there will probably be more. So thanks for a game to help block that out for awhile.

Unexpected Effort + Addictive Gameplay = Bravo!

I saw this game all over my tik tok, and honestly I was sick of it. I saw the comments on the ads saying the game was good, so I gave it a shot. And honestly? It was pretty great! The nailed the rubber hose art style through the mobile game muck, and still retained some charm in the game too! Even with a gacha system, fusing, etc, the game still has some spirit. Especially with the sound design also. The game also isn’t mind numbingly easy, even though I didn’t die the entire first world, it kept me on my toes for sure. I’ll always find myself going back to play this game, there are some quite addictive elements (besides the main gameplay sticking with me already) The only gripe I have is that it is pretty tough to get diamonds for the crossover pulls, but at least they make you flush with regular recruitment tickets! On that note, the tom and Jerry collab is perfect, I couldn’t imagine a better cross over idea! TLDR: Fun, almost game that still has charm through usual mobile game mechanics, with its dialogue and rubber hose art style. Only complaint? Diamonds are a little hard to earn.

A Wonderful Title

Almost considered a crime that it's mobile only: it's Really good. Despite having the usual in-game purchases thrown at you (it's a free app game, you know), with Many pay-to-play aspects, Acecraft is an entertaining, heavily Cuphead-inspired, hilarious game with hours of content each day, with new content every day as well! AND it's very simple to get All of the characters and the resources in the game; not a single purchase was made on my end, and i've almost completed my roster. I have never felt like i HAVE to make a purchase to progress or get something in this game. Overall, Many fun different games and play-styles. It does feel early-development in the sense of playable character roster (not very many to get). But, it has a very engaging story, visuals, characters, and sounds effects! I am not a phone-app-game player or enjoyer (for no longer than a few days at least), but i'm going on almost a month now of Acecraft and i'm climbing the ranks, it's a very fun and satisfying game. 9.5/10
