Our Expert Score

95/100

8 Ball Pool by Miniclip is the gold standard for mobile billiards, and for good reason. It has arguably the most refined physics engine in the genre—the weight of the balls, the friction of the felt, and the way spin (English) affects the cue ball are all perfectly captured. As a competitive gaming expert, I find the 1-on-1 tournament structure to be the most addictive part. Putting your virtual 'coins' on the line adds a layer of tension that makes every shot count.

The progression system is masterfully handled, allowing you to unlock higher-stakes tables in iconic world cities and collect various cues with different power and aim stats. The matchmaking is near-instant, and the 'tap-to-aim' controls are pixel-perfect. While it features the usual social-game flourishes, the core gameplay is so solid that it remains the benchmark by which all other pool games are measured. It is a mandatory download for any sports fan.

I absolutely love this app!!!

Out of all the 8 ball pool games this one is by far the best! You can play against people around the world and there is a chat but you can’t type whatever you want that have a controlled chat. At first I was mad about the chat but you can level up and get new chat packs they also have emojis. In the beginning when you are only like a level 2 you play people at the same level as you so you don’t lose a lot. One of my favorite things about the game is that once you start playing and earning more coins (btw when you get into like the the higher levels even just 30 you’ll have millions) you can unlock cues to play with and collect them all of them are different and really cool. Now about actually playing at first it might be tough for you but when you aim at a ball it gives you guidelines to pot the ball so it makes it easier for you. You can also control how hard you hit the ball. Also for anyone that is wondering if there are a lot of adds, there is not I can play 100 games and between each there would be no add. Yes there are adds though, but only if you choose to watch an add to get free coins. The picture looks very real and there are no glitches. You can also choose your avatar. But if you want a name you have to sign in to Facebook or something and I don’t have Facebook so it gives you a name like guesthfudnj3542 . That’s not my name it just a random example but you’ll get a name that says guest and some random letters and numbers. I hope you download this wonderful app I really love it !!

Miniclip, what’s happening?

Just to clarify, this is not a negative review. I love 8 ball pool, both virtually and in person. I’ve played this very game since I was a little kid, so obviously I love it. I do have new insights now. When I had to join a brand new account, I decided to use a guest account. Back then, guests didn’t have the option to personalize their nicknames. Now you can. It’s not a bad thing, in fact I find it a great touch. Still the same old great pool, with its flashy pool cues and exciting events. Then comes another new thing: ads. Now, before you assume you’re bombarded by ads in this game, you’re not. In fact, you can choose to watch ads for coins and cash. However, you now get ads without choosing too. The ads come only after every so many rounds you play, I say maybe two or three. Back then, you also didn’t get ads. This isn’t something that bothers me as of now since I get about 10 seconds ads. I understand that now that 8 ball pool may be less profitable, so ads can be used to keep it “free” (a guess of mine, not a fact). There’s one more thing I’d like to add, and that is the glitching. Sometimes the apps will get distorted. The chest boxes be disappeared, though the timer will be under. This is confusing, though it’s only a minor issue. Overall, I still LOVE this game and I hope others do as well. If this is your first impression of this game, I HIGHLY recommend. There may be flaws of course, but no games are perfect. The game has amazing graphics and gameplay. Try it YOURSELF!

Fun, but frustrating

I’d really like to give this app 5 stars, and I would if it didn’t boot me out of games and tournaments randomly for no reason, and if it would give me credit for all the wins I do earn. I just got kicked out of the Buenos Aires tournament for the third time today, so I lost 1500 coins for no reason - my opponent had not earned the win, the game just decided to advance them and not me. This happens often and in several different games (1-on-1’s, tournaments, 9 ball games) and someone just loses their money for no reason. NOT COOL. Also, I played a game in Tokyo a couple of days ago and I won, but the game didn’t give me the credit for it in my tally to earn a Tokyo ring, it still says I’ve won zero games. Yet, I have a Tokyo victory box to prove I won a game there. Additionally, I went to Miniclip support and spent an excessive amount of time writing out a ticket for this to be addressed (partly because I toggled over to the game to take screen shots to upload with my ticket and the site deleted everything I had typed in the description field so I had to retype the whole thing) and when I submitted the ticket, the screen just went blank and I got no confirmation that the ticket had been submitted, I received no email that Miniclip had received the ticket, so now I’m here. One of the less annoying features of the app is all the pop ups it gives you when you’re trying to tap on something and it insets an ad before your finger touches the screen so then it tries to make you buy stuff.

Pop-up sales banners are ridiculous

I actually love this game during game-play; there is too much genius in the physics to allow some of the bonehead issues that make this game as annoying as it is for being such an accurate tech at the same time. I have accidentally spent over $50 with pop-up sales banners that pop up directly in front of the likely icon that you were about to select, or game you were about to play… a GENUINE lack of integrity from this application’s marketing. Aside from that bonehead issue, they sell you these chat packs to chat with your opponent, but I have SOOO many chat-packs that I’ve been awarded over the 10 years I’ve been playing, that I scroll for days looking for the chat I want, sometimes accidentally selecting the wrong one as I’m scrolling because it STICKS…, and usually by the time I find the chat that I want, it is WAYYYY too late. Do you guys test your product? Do I need to go over there and show you how to do your job? Also… When playing the main tournaments for win-streak, if I happen to get shut out because my opponent broke & I pocketed all his balls for the win, and then my next opponent also wins the break (who chooses that?) and ALSO shuts me out, and then my next opponent ALSO breaks and shuts me out?!? HELLO??? Any algorithms you’d like to go ahead and create so that this doesn’t happen? …especially after spending 11 cash to continue…? Where was this my fault to lose 11 cash? Are you guys cheating? How am I to know? It’s unfair, and shows off these developer’s lack of mind. Wish I could go over show you how to do your jobs.

Naturally fun game, needs matchmaking restructuring
Sun Aug 07 2022 Mr.Gn0me

I’ve played this game too much. It’s a fun game and I enjoy it most days. Lately I have grown extremely discouraged at me trying to advance throughout ranks or amount of chips made. Let’s say you’re playing a table with higher wagers, why and I repeat WHY is something as important as the initial break shot randomized and/or not regulated each match you go into? There is no set game for you to select or earn who breaks for the match. Why is this important (most likely new players) ask? Because it’s common to get to a point where after the break if you pocket a ball you can clear your part of the table and win the game almost every time. Many times I have gone 5-7 games in a row without breaking first. The results were me losing out on a lot of chips. Miniclip, you have cut corners in the matchup system. It’s time you fix this problem to where it’s a guarantee you are matched every other game with a locked in break, or you must design a skill system to establish who is the player who breaks. Make it similar to a golden shot where whoever gets closest to a target gets to break first. Not all of us want to wager all of our chips to win best out of 3 in a bet all setting. To some this is not a big deal. I am so fed up with hopping into games and not even getting a single shot off because of cleared tables before I even getting to attempt to win. I haven’t read other reviews but I’m sure other players who try to advance are frustrated too not just me over not getting chances to contend tables we never had the chance to land a shot on.

Call out
Fri Sep 03 2021 A concerned listener 😉

At first, I enjoyed this game aplenty, w/ its cool challenges and strategic but fair ways for the developer to make money off of advertisements by having one watch commercials for free coins and/or dollars on a daily basis. Lately though, it’s unfortunate to see how greedy one can become. Example, I don’t know how many videos I had to watch today just to get a free dollar (at least 3 that I counted) or get coins (I lost count) and nothing happens. The only thing that happens is once the video is done, I click X to return to the app, only for the screen to say its loading, and I see that none of my totals have increased but have stayed the same, only obligating you to watch the very same videos numerous times, and one knows full well that the developer is getting paid for each commercial that is shown regardless of it being the same one. I still enjoy this app, and I don’t mind watching the commercials for free coins/dollars for the developer’s personal profit, but this is becoming absurd and I’m getting sick of it. If this is a bug and is corrected, then I apologize for the strong accusation. If w/i a reasonable time, though, I still notice this continuous pattern, then yea, the call out is accurate and it’s become nothing more than a money grab from a developer that’s become precisely that: greedy. True, I’m nothing more than a customer w/ a tiny voice, and I’m sure that by losing me as a player of this game, this won’t hurt your bottomline. Nonetheless, I’m sure I’m not the first that will have been added to a growing trend of dissatisfied customers. ✌🏼

Good game but not fun at times
Sun Aug 15 2021 personmanman

It is a very good game, but there are some things that make it infuriating and not fun to play it in the slightest. First of all you can be just starting the game and then going against someone who is level 500, which is obviously a completely different skill set. I think that it should match up people with similar levels and not someone who has been playing for years and someone who is playing there first ever real game. I deal like this wouldn’t be that hard to implement. Then there’s the fact that you can play nine ball pool and bet 50k tokens and not ever even get a chance to play, either because the opponent is 15 x the level you are, they make the nine ball in immediately or they just don’t ever miss a pocket. I think that it would be much better if, in that situation, you could keep the tokens that you bet, but the opponent would still get there full reward. Again it wouldn’t be that hard. I have lost so much progress because of these two things and I really wanted to leave a lower review but, the times where you actually match with someone around your skill is very fun so I decided I would rate it higher. I had about50,000 tokens at one point and it all ended up gone because I was matched against someone 10 times my skill level and I never even got to play. Please fix these problems, it wouldn’t only make it a better game, but one of the best games I’ve played, however because it is so hard to get any progress, it is a very annoying game at most times with the rare instances where it is very fun and fair.

Great game, few caveats
Sat Dec 06 2025 Jhosh P.

This game is solid in terms of gameplay and quality. However, their constant push for you to buy and upgrade endless number of pool cues is excessive to say the least. There are probably over 500+ cues with different stats from more time, to better aim, and more spin but they issue is there are too many of them. If there was a cue store where I can pre-select the ones I want to purchase and upgrade, it would make the experience a lot more robust and meaningful, as opposed to having the game developers shove hundreds of unwanted cues and “cue pieces” to your cue inventory you don’t even care about. Lastly, the surprise boxes have gone down hill. I have played this game for over 6 years and these surprise boxes you win would give you a good amount of coins which is the biggest and highest form of currency in the game. Now it’s just like 100 coins per box and then a bunch of useless pool cue pieces that you were not even looking for in the first place. Moreover, their spin wheel (you get a daily spin) and there are big amounts you can win from 50-50,000 coins ALWAYS lands on the 150 coin slot. Talk about a rigged spin wheel (this is after having used this same wheel for 5 consecutive years and only once I got 20,000 coins). Extra review point here is that the algorithm somehow matches you with a harder player each time you keep winning. This should be randomized. The folks from Miniclip know this and I hope they take some considerations with this review.
