Our Expert Score

82/100

Real Pool 3D is arguably one of the most robust and visually impressive billiards simulators on the App Store. The physics engine is spectacular, accurately modeling spin, momentum, and collisions to make every shot feel authentic. Whether you're playing 8-ball, 9-ball, or UK Snooker, the table looks fantastic, and the camera controls allow you to line up your shots with professional precision.

The game shines in its variety. The single-player mode offers plenty of challenges to hone your skills, while the online multiplayer is competitive and smooth. Unlocking new, extravagant cues adds a nice layer of progression, though the top-tier items can take quite a bit of grinding to acquire. If you are looking for a realistic pool experience in your pocket, this is a top-tier choice.

The avitars block the corners of the table on certain shots and the computer does’nt use enough English in proper situations to give me a better challenge, otherwise,it’s the best pool game online ever although we will be paying to play this game should apple choose you to add to there game bundle library in the near future through subscription just like iTunes and appleTV... also please add the game of straight pool and the ability for game sound effects of the volume to not crash when I listen to my iTunes. I like the illusion of a jukebox as if I’m in a bar, not being relegated to department store or waiting room music your game provides...also add applause response effects after certain great shots and lastly, give us players maybe three or four options of table surface color...THANKS!!

Some great bits and not so great

I downloaded this app because I was looking to get my hands on some more pool but it is hard to access a physical pool table. It is great for just playing around, but not necessarily ideal but getting better at pool. I was a little disappointed that was no online mode to play against actual players. The CPU mode isn’t realistic at all because the computer can easily do any shots it wants and then purposely miss before it makes too many in a row. On the ‘easy’ CPU mode it will almost always make two shots in a row and then purposely miss the third one. A real player would more often make easy shots but less often make hard ones. The CPU makes easy shots and hard shots alike until it decides to give up. The way I prefer to play the game is in the offline 2-player mode where I will play against myself from both sides. That is where I have improved at the game the most. Some positives about the game include the fact that there are plenty of modes to choose from, including 8-ball, 9-ball, snooker, time trial, practice, and many others. There are many ways to play the game, even if by yourself. The art style is also very good and the atmosphere of the game has a very relaxing and friendly vibe, which is exactly what you want for this type of game. Despite it’s flaws, the game can be a fun way to improve at pool as ling as you are challenging yourself. Overall it is easily worth the $2 charge to go ad-free.

Almost great

The game is very good, but the rules are NOT correct. First, in “true” pool, when you scratch on the 8 ball, you lose. In this game the player wins if the 8 ball is sunk and then the cue ball also goes in a pocket. That is illegal. Second, no matter where or when you scratch the opponent can ONLY place the cue ball BEHIND the break line. It’s illegal to place the cue ball “anywhere” you want on the table. You’d be thrown out of any pool hall for playing like that. Third, in true pool rules, you cannot play off of other balls. If you hit another ball you lose your turn, unless hitting another ball happens after you sink the intended ball. The only exception is if you are purposely making a combination shot, but you are only allowed to use your own balls. You may not use your opponents balls for a combination shot. Fourth, you may not simply hit one of your balls and “hope” something goes in. If the intended ball does not go in a pocket but another of your balls does go in a pocket, that is considered a table scratch. Fifth, and this really makes me mad, if you sink the 8 ball on the break, this game considers that a reason to start over and allow the opponent to break. When playing by true rules, if you sink the 8 ball on the break you WIN! That’s one of the most difficult shots and the player is rewarded with a win. I know. I perfected that shot and used to win money for doing that...and it really makes the opponent angry. I like this game, but wherever the developer got the rules was not from a trusted source. I’ve been playing pool for more than 50 years and played pool sharks as well as hundreds of bars. The rules of this game (using level 2 of 3) are very annoying and those of the novice who doesn’t play by the rules.

Great app!

This is a simple yet dynamic app with plenty to offer the billiards fan and pro! The CPU is a wizard to watch, and gives you a real challenge! It’s not always all that smart, so it’s a bit lacking. Whenever it gets an impossible shot, and occasionally even a not so difficult shot, it can be surprisingly inept and clumsy, which is not realistic or consistent. Still, most of the time I’m shaking in my spurs to sink every ball I get and keep my streak running to the end or else the game is easily handed over. I should also say that this critique is based on playing exclusively on “Hard,” the highest difficulty level. Otherwise, there are several fun games to play within the app to keep things interesting, rules are thorough and insightful, and the look, feel, action and options within the app are all very satisfactory. Actually I have just one other Main critique and that’s that the perspective camera view in gameplay can be unwieldy and not easily adjusted once you’ve moved it too much. Not sure what to do about this, but I mostly use a top-down view to play.

Fun, though spin could be a little more realistic
Sun Jan 18 2026 ALA.Typhoon

This game is very fun and quite realistic compared to many other pool games out there. The controls are intuitive and easy to use. However, I have found that the physics with draw shots are not always very realistic. When I don’t use too much power (10-25%), and I play maximum low on a long shot, the cue ball draws back with a lot more speed than it should have when compared to real life. Regardless of the distance of the shot, I can slow roll the cue ball forward and then the cue ball would come back like a rocket as if I had used 70-80% power. In real life, the back spin would have decelerated and reversed into a natural roll halfway to the object ball, and the cue ball’s path would be very similar to a slow roll shot after contact with the object ball. This is called a drag shot. I also recommend doing some extra research on break physics, as they are not always super realistic compared to real life :). I understand that you are likely busy with many other tasks in life, and you may not be able to implement all these suggestions or do that to a perfect result, but I do hope that you at least do some research and some studies in real life on these cue ball physics. Apart from improving the game, doing this research can also improve your pool game in real life, and might be quite fun. Thank you for reading this long review, keep up the great work, and I hope you find even more success in developing this game. Also, shoot some pool in real life too, even more pool if you already play it. :) Edit: I feel that the Hard mode AI is not as good as before, and it is now too easy to beat (I haven’t lost a frame to it for the past week since I started playing this game again). I understand some people may find the previous hard mode too hard, but I think it may be helpful if you make even more difficulty levels for us. You could even make a difficulty slider or selector that is based on a system from real life, such as the fargo rating system. Thanks for reading this 😊

Very close to being realistic with a few errors.

This game is very close to being realistic but there are a few key errors holding it back. For starters, it seems too and bottom spin effects the cue ball regardless of how hard you hit it. Shooting a shot with max bottom spin as soft as possible will have the cue ball crawl to the object ball, then as soon as contact is made the cue ball begins spinning backwards and rolls faster than you even shot it. Same goes for top spin. Secondly, sidespin does not function correctly. Shooting the cue ball straight into the rail with max right side spin should send the cue ball back to the right off the rail, but here it simply comes straight back. Additionally, the game seems to take into account spin induced throw, where the spin of the cue ball changes the angle of the object ball slightly, this is great! (Although perhaps the game makes the effect a bit stronger than it should be). However, there is another factor that spin can have in that if not accounted for, shooting with right side spin will send the cue ball slightly to the left, and it doesn’t appear that the game recognizes this, even though it should also change your aim line. It can even mitigate the spin induced throw. These are the major physics issues I see. Another small issue is that the perspective seems to be very harsh, making a ball across the table waaaayyyy smaller than it would actually appear visually, often making your aim very off. This may just be the effect of playing on a 2d screen, but it made things feel very jarring.

Really Good Game(s)

I enjoy playing this Game the best. Not slammed w/ads or wanting $$. Nice enjoyable variation of Pool & Snooker.<-My Fav! Only glitches are when playing the CPU, I tend to win the break like 99% of the time. Also, it doesn’t always move the aim when I tap the ball I want to hit. Then gee, I actually have to move the aim all by myself!😅The only thing I’s change or add would be my Avatar Options, Customized Pool Cues & maybe offer different Rooms/Lighting & maybe Table styles. Still, FIVE STARS As Is!! (Side Note: I Noticed extremely a few Hateful, Racist Reviews based on Developers Names & assumed ethnicity & religion! It’s despicable, deplorable & abhorrent behavior! There’s no need for it!! The person(s) acting as such should be removed from whatever platform allows them access to playing & reviewing Any apps!)

Let the new player win

You don’t start out your game on easy and have the computer run the table every time. Obviously that isn’t fun watching the computer play itself. Where’s your common sense? Not only that but the 3d is wonky and laborious. If you zoom in too far you miss half the shots. It could at least pull out after you shoot. Or maybe some buttons for default views. I spent most of my time zooming in and out before realizing I had to hit a strange green checkbox. And can we talk about the ui?it’s terrible. The table and balls look nice but the avatars look like a 5th grader drew them. They’d be fine if this was 5th grade pool 3d or something boring 2d flat line art characters don’t work with this game. And go ahead and hire someone to fix you dimensionless controls. Seriously it looks like you spent all you graphics budget on the table and then used generic ui components for the rest. Could easily be so much better.
