Wordlike 1.8 introduces two new Knick Knacks and some bug fixes!
New Knick Knacks
- Metronome: Gains +3 mult per consecutive word of different length. Keep switching up word lengths!
- Grappling Hook: Gains x1 mult when the word is longer than the previous word.
Bug fixes
- Dumbbell accumulated mult still applies when you play a word with blanks
- Anchor mult doesn't increment twice
- Joker copies accumulated mult on Houseplant
- Game Center access point appears on Main Menu after a win
If you ever wondered what would happen if Slay the Spire and Scrabble had a baby, Wordlike is the answer. It’s a genius concept that is executed with incredible polish. Usually, word games are purely about vocabulary, but here, the tactical positioning of your cards and the timing of your big words are just as important.
What I love most is the 'progression' during a run. Finding a relic that sets enemies on fire whenever you use the letter 'S' completely changes how you look at your hand. You start hunting for words that use that letter, even if they aren't the longest ones available. It makes every turn a meaningful decision.
The art style is clean and evocative, and the interface is perfectly designed for one-handed play on a phone. It has that 'just one more run' quality that defines the best roguelikes. Whether you're a word nerd or a strategy veteran, this game is a top-tier experience.
Procedural dungeon generation
Deep deck-building mechanics
Challenging boss encounters
Over 100 unique artifacts to collect
Daily run challenges with leaderboards
Don't just go for high-value letters like 'Z' or 'Q'. Make sure you have enough common vowels and consonants to ensure you can always spell *something*, even if it's a short word, to defend yourself.
Look for artifacts that reward specific types of words. For example, some artifacts give extra armor for 5-letter words, while others deal double damage if the word starts with a vowel.
Yes, Wordlike is fully playable without an internet connection, making it perfect for travel.
I’m so glad I found this game! It’s now one of my favorite word games ever. It captures the right balance of thinky and playful. Super engaging to play. I just won my first game, barely, and it was a super satisfying feeling. I appreciate the fair premium price with no IAP and no ads. I’m so glad it’s in portrait mode too. And, when you quit the app at any time for any reason, your progress is saved automatically. When you reopen the app, you just hit play and then you can continue your run. So it’s perfect for busy people like me who can only play in small spurts. It’s so fun you want to keep playing longer. Love it. I like the visual design, I like the whole theme. If you change the game, developer, please don’t stray from what you’ve done so far, it’s fantastic as is. And please keep it premium, with no ads ever. It could use a little bit of battery optimization, maybe, but it’s not bad, especially considering the animations. I wish the file size were a tad smaller, too, but again, it’s ok as is. Anyway, thank you developer! I highly recommend this game! It’s really fun!
I don’t normally write reviews but I was really impressed by this. Definitely has a lot of elements of Balatro, so if you’ve played that you’ll pick it up quickly. The word-based items (like giving you mult for nouns or certain letters) do a lot to make it feel unique though. Have only played it for a couple days but have already found several really fun builds. I also shared it my mom who loves word games. It was definitely a steeper learning curve for her (mostly to get the hang of the scoring) but now she’s addicted too lol Excited for more content!!!
Even in its early stages of design, this game plays and feels exceptional. Every element feels well balanced and the UI is perfect. It really has the same strengths as Balatro since it follows the game loop so closely, but brings a fantastic mechanic to make a unique identity. I think more modifiers and further customization would propel this game into the same conversation as its influences.
I love word games but get bored of ones that don’t involve enough strategy or challenges in them. This combines the simple fun of making words with the strategy of figuring out how to multiply your points. Fun art for the Knick knacks too. Well worth it, stands out from a lot of the other attempts at this idea!
The strategies behind the scoring and bonuses make this game a super refreshing take on a traditional build-a-word game. Definitely one that gets better the more you play. 100% worth it; it’s a great addition to my word game to station.
I am obsessed with this game!!!! It’s like a word game combined with a strategy game and it’s the perfect level of challenging but doable. Also it doesn’t have annoying ads like other word games which makes the experience so much nicer
Played on desktop and so glad it’s finally on mobile! The knickknacks really give this game a lot more replayability than most word games.
Very intuitive and fun! Pretty similar to balatro in terms of the structure of runs, but does its own thing with the whole letter-tile system. 100% recommend it
