Our Expert Score

91/100

Void Poker 1992 is an extraordinarily slick roguelike deckbuilder that nails both style and strategic substance. Borrowing the addictive core of modern poker roguelites, it wraps the experience in a nostalgic 1992 arcade cyberpunk aesthetic complete with scanlines and an immersive synthwave soundtrack.

Finding crazy synergies between cybernetic chip mods and mutated card values makes every run feel excitingly distinct. It's wildly addictive, stylishly crafted, and easily one of the most compelling strategy games on the platform.

Cool so far, but doesn’t always recognize a single pair?

Enjoying the game so far, still early stages. Sometimes I’ll have a single pair, though, and the game will say I have nothing. Kind of frustrating

Five Card Draw RPG

I was a fan of the handheld video poker games in the 90's. Very basic but fun for hours. This is the RPG twist on that five card draw style of poker. There is quite a lot to the game and the vast majority of features require unlocking through play and achievements. You can play the main mode as much as you like with the starting class for free. Inside the game there is a codex going over the game's features and mechanics, allowing you to really see what is offered before buying or even investing much time. The stat tracking is excellent if you are into that kind of thing. If you buy the game you will have access to several more modes as well as other classes and a daily leaderboard. The music is pretty awesome and fits the 90's vibe perfectly.

Fun but some things don’t seem to work

I appreciate the developer giving a full trial run for free, and the fair monetizing for the full game if you like it, with no ads or data collection. That is to be applauded. The design is cool too and I like the concept. But there seems to be issues, or they’re not explained. For example, just before level 10, I got an item that said it would protect you from dying once. So I bought it, and then clicked on it before playing the boss. And I died. It didn’t protect me from dying and give me another chance. This happened to me in two runs. I deleted the game after that. I do wish the file size were smaller, though it’s ok. And it seems like too many hands end up being “nothing” no matter what you do. So I found it frustrating, especially when an item that was supposed to save my life didn’t. Other people may really like it though. But be sure to read the whole Codex section or you’ll miss some important info. I really wanted to like this, but it seemed a bit hard, and if items don’t work and you don’t earn many gems, you can’t advance easily. In all my plays I earned one gem, only once. Which isn’t enough to buy an upgrade. Anyway, try it, it is cool, maybe you won’t run into the same issues.

Need a push button, the slide isn’t fun. A ton of comments on reddit about this. Would like to hear the devs response, game has tons of potential.
