Tsuro is a relaxing yet strategic board game where the goal is to keep your stone on the board longer than anyone else. Each turn, you place a tile that depicts several winding paths; your stone then follows the path created. However, your tiles can also extend the paths of your opponents, potentially leading them off the edge or into a collision. With support for up to 8 players and a variety of AI levels, it’s a game of elegant simplicity and tactical depth.

Our Expert Score

91/100

Tsuro is a stunningly faithful digital adaptation of the beloved board game. The core loop—placing a tile to extend your path while trying to stay on the board—is simple, yet the strategy becomes incredibly deep as the board fills up and players are forced into each other's paths. The 'zen' aesthetic is perfectly captured here; the sound of the tiles and the graceful movement of the stones is incredibly relaxing.

The app adds several features that improve on the physical version, such as the ability to play against multiple AI personalities and an online multiplayer mode. It’s a game of foresight and survival, and seeing your stone glide along a complex, winding path you built yourself is immensely satisfying. It’s a must-have for board game fans.

Simple, strategic, and fun.

This game is easy to learn, simple and fast to play, and actually has several types of challenges to increase your interest level. Also, for those social butterflies, there is the ability to other real people. However, you have to connect to Facebook to interact with other living beings. This is truly an excellent game! My only suggestion to the developer(s) is make the game playable directly through Apple’s built in Messenger App, too. I am not a fan of Facebook and its’ data collection policies/practices. So, I do not give anything access to my Facebook account. But, I would still love to play this game with my wife and friends directly.

Facebook shenanigans

My Tsuro app was once connected to my Facebook account. When I closed my Facebook account for good (gasp!), I was unable to play Tsuro - I would try to load the app and the Facebook login screen would appear. I’d choose, “not now” and I would be booted from the app, denied access to Tsuro. I was mad. I searched the reviews for answers- nothing. I emailed support... Finally, I stumbled upon the fix. After various attempts to bypass my old ties to FB, I went nuclear. I deleted the app. Deleting the app and the associated data, then reinstalling was the only solution that I could find to fix this issue. When prompted to connect and play with friends on my Facebook account, I chose ‘hell no’ or whatever it is that means no. Now I can play Tsuro again, sans Facebook. That pleases me. If you’re having the same issue, this review’s for you. Four stars because Facebook shenanigans

Games that have an unpredictability of how the game board is created and have strategy in placement. Making you think ahead are always fun games. The replay ability is awesome and fast quick games are always nice! Great game. Wish you could shift or rotate the entire game board when placing the tiles at the very far edge on board. I do like how you can see the layout of the track before placing the tile though. Also it would be nice to continue to play a computer instead of your ghost. But it’s still an amazing game. Thanks!

Great game but record screen works 20% of the time

I play almost exclusively so I can build up to long ending paths that I record. Unfortunately the record screen feature is SUPER buggy. Half the time the little ? Icon won’t come back at all and almost the entire other half the time, clicking save won’t actually save the video to your phone (a workaround this is to email the (huge) file to yourself before clicking save). Another workaround I’ve found is to record when you first start the game bc the first record of a play session is usually the one that breaks. Once you “warm the game up” to recording it does better (but this is annoying to have to do). 5/5 if the devs fix this bug.

Need Options for Simplified User Interface
Fri Sep 13 2024 sea4594

A few simple options/preferences would significantly improve gameplay: 1. Need an option to turn off the dizzying angled view and look at the board directly. Just a simple top-down 2D layout, which should be easy for the devs considering they have already incorporated an augmented reality feature to show the board on your table using your phone’s camera. 2. This game is BEGGING to be vertical instead of horizontal. Board in middle, tiles on the bottom, settings and stuff on top. This would make it possible to play with one hand, and in my opinion, make it significantly more enjoyable. 3. The rules of Tsuro only allow you to place a tile in one location - in front of your stone. So why do I have to drag the tile into position every time I play one, when all that’s needed is a “play tile” button? If you drag and drop slightly in the wrong location, try again! 4. NEED an option to turn off animations. I’m playing the game to actually play Tsuro, not to watch a bunch of cutscenes. I understand they want to prioritize aesthetics, but they’ve sacrificed playability to the point where I just can’t play it. Classic example of trying too hard.

Great, but...

I agree with others. I really hate being told there's someone waiting for me to play when my current opponent has not taken a turn. It is a "drag" to have to drag all the other opponents onto the board. The startup screen does seem long (I know what the box looks like...very pretty...can we get to playing now?). Sometimes I forget what rule-set I chose, it'd be nice if it said (or there was a symbol. On the whole, though, I enjoy the game very much. If that were fixed, I'd rate this a solid 5-stars. The effects are satisfying, and I can play myself to try to beat my loops record or distance for quite some time. It'd be great if those records could be stored somehow.

Okay could be better

I second the Facebook issues. I am not on Facebook. You can play with your Game Center friends. But Since Game Center is dead. There is no way to add friends. I tried playing nearby friends it doesn’t seem to be working. Kinda wish I didn’t buy it. Except for the fact the solo version makes it interesting. Update..... Got a response from developer they say they are working on multiplayer to make it better. It was a quick response too! So I changed my rating fro 3 stars to 4.

Good game. Software needs work
Wed Sep 13 2017 Wldtyp

This is an interesting game, strategic but with an element of chance. The software implementation is poor however. If you're playing an online game with another person, and exit to another program, the iOS version takes you thru an excessively long startup program and then dumps you into a startup default game. Two suggestions for software improvement: 1. Reduce the excessive startup time, about 45+ seconds of wasted time. 2. When you are playing an online game and leave the app and return to the game, you should return to the game that you're playing, not to a new game.
