Before I say anything i want to make it clear that I really like this game, I have played for a few days and am currently about to finish episode 3. One of my biggest issues with the game currently is how long combat can take. The ad for 5minutes of increased speed should last longer, or there should be some other way to increase combat speed Another issue that I do not care much about but is still an issue is how your troops will target the nearest thing they can hit instead of what may be a danger to them. They should have some level of awareness when it comes to danger, but I also get the appeal in having them target the nearest thing instead. Random level generation would help a lot with the repetitive nature of the game. Lastly this is not so much a criticism, but an idea. I wish there was some way to earn gems for actually paying attention to the game so it doesn’t feel like i should make a macro to do the upgrades for me and earn crowns without even looking at the game.
The game is incredibly grindy. You spend hours sometimes even days grinding away just to progress to the next “episode” (it’s what the levels are called). However, it is very addictive and has a ton of potential. There is a discord they have (which is advertised in game) that has tips and tricks but be careful not to ask a question. You will be greeted with toxic, snarky and condescending comments. The moderators don’t investigate anything and will just ban anyone based on how they feel rather than investigating the facts. Definitely watch out for “TheSpark” he is one of the moderators on there who does exactly as in the aforementioned. The community is definitely something to avoid as it leaves a bad taste in your mouth and really misrepresents this game. I think if the game works out episode progression to be a little quicker by boosting the rate at which stats increase and making other stats more impactful rather than just funneling all your leveling into Block Damage, it could be a lot more enjoying to play. It also needs a change in unit A.I as your units priority for attacking is definitely not efficient. You will see units being actively attacked but instead of attacking back, they attack the blocks in their environment first (blocks in environment are non-aggressive, resource yielding objects). This game has a ton of potential and I hope it actualizes that full potential.
Buying upgrades in this game feels like trying to buy a house with a part time minimum wage job. The amount of money you get in this game does not scale nearly as much as cost of the upgrades do. The cost of upgrades basically doubles every time you buy and the income you make barely changes as you progress so you have to do 5 runs to upgrade it once only to get +0.01% attack power. You are actually pulling in scraps of change every run. Its so terribly designed. But not to worry right you can buy the money upgrades in the store! No! I spent 50k crowns for +0.5 crowns per kill! As for the gems and essence to get skills for your units. The only way to get them normally is through the event dungeon that is virtually impossible after stage 6. It literally goes from fighting enemies with 20-30hp to trapping your team in 333hp cubes + getting shot at by the entire US army. With how slow the game is you would have to spend thousands to maybe beat half of the enemies in that stage. After all of that and you finally get out of dungeon you get a whole 400 essence out of the 4000 needed to get one skill! So bare minimum 10 days to get one out of the 4 skills each troop has! Oh and the dungeon only comes around sometimes so its actually 10+ days for one skill!
Instead of other tower defense game where you focus buffing one or more stationary towers this game has you focus on getting strong troops and building their stats up and recruit more to attack the enemy troops for a unique take. If your a fan on the genre it’s definitely worth a try but other than the unique take I wish there was more to it. Such as for now it seems you get one strong troop and you just invest everything in them and their seems to be no benefit to diversify your troops (at least so far). The permanent buffs so far also seem to be the standard fare of offense, defense and money buffs. Ads are pretty light and progression is hugely boosted by so I’m surprised it is the one thing they chose not to monetize as their is no ad removal pack but there are double and triple basic currency ones. There’s definitely more to this game so I’m surprised it promotes rating this game so early and hopefully I’ll update this soon with more details as I hope there is more to enjoy but it is pretty interesting so far.
I’ve had a lot of fun with this game. Some purchases were made for 3x speed and 3x crown multiplier. I haven’t purchased diamonds but was able to grind Dungeons for free to gain 11 slots worth of cards. I am wondering if I need to buy diamonds for the remaining 9, as I grinded up to 1500 diamonds worth of dungeons and only received common cards the entire way through. Anyone unlock any of the 9 afterward? Currently on episode 649 which feels like a huge plateau, as workshop upgrades now cost about 300 million for a 0.05x increase, and I get ~34mill Crowns per episode which increases only 0.05mill per episode. All my Workshop upgrades are ~80+ out of 99 to 6000 completion depending on the power up, with some maxed out. Overall a fun game, and I’ve put in some $ and a lot of grind, but I’m wondering if anyone’s been able to unlock any other cards than the initial 11! Please let me know.
Game had potential to be great. Targeting system is genuinely horrific. Your army would rather mine blocks instead of defending themselves from the people attacking them. On top of that, the actual leveling system with the upgrades takes so long to even get one of them up that it’s only marginally better with the upgrades. Disappointed in this game because it seemed fun. But their targeting, leveling system, etc. is just so bad. If they make a change to prioritize the enemy instead of the blocks I might consider replaying, but it’s impossible to win past level 10 unless you’re sitting there playing for hours just fully grinding the upgrades and MAYBE you’ll reach past it if the RNG in how your troops attack works in your favor. The actual money system in game is also horrible. Every time you buy an upgrade past like 7-8 times, it becomes exponentially more expensive and impossible to upgrade. Once again, this game needs major balance and targeting changes. But I doubt these developers will do anything about it as always.
First off, I love this game. It takes the small incremental improvement gameplay of The Tower and uses it well. The problem comes with the regular “tournaments” the game holds. It’s endless waves of enemies until you die. But once you’ve turned your permanent defense up to a high enough level, you pretty much cease to take damage at higher levels of the tournament. But at that point, the game bogs down and frame rate drops to about 1 frame/minute. On my iPhone XS, that can happen as early as level 200. You can delay it by reducing the number of units you spawn, but I’ve never had the game able to handle it past level 400. I’ve turned fx off and dropped game speed to 1.0x, but the game still bogs down and tries its hardest to overheat my phone.
This game is not ready for prime time. I’m a regular gamer and I also love to play passive Idle Games when I don’t have the energy for the PS5. While this game initially showed promise with a simple style and rewarding gameplay loop it unfortunately falls short in a number of areas. First, the AD watching system is absolutely barbaric. Long, frequent ads are pretty much necessary to make even the most basic progress. Even more frustrating is the game’s blatant omission to pay for AD removal via any in app purchases. Why on earth would they make this decision?? Second, the AI of your troops is nothing short of abysmal. They’ll expose themselves to enemy attacks and yet ignore those enemies in favor of attacking non threatening walls, dragging progress to a crawl on anything but the first level. I suggest adding a reasonable charge to remove ads (while keeping the rewards that would be offered) as well as improving AI. Some suggestions that could improve the gameplay loop regarding troop behavior could have an upgrade tab that allows players to prioritize their troop’s aggro and or targeting system (for example, setting Archer troops to attack enemies before walls or having healers target their healing spells on your lowest HP units). Outside of any of these improvements, this game is positively dead on arrival. One bonus stat because I genuinely think the gameplay would be fun if either improvement were actually implemented.
