Our Expert Score

92/100

Tennis Champs Returns is a absolute love letter to the classic Amiga era of sports games, specifically the legendary 'Tennis Champs'. It manages to capture that old-school addictive quality while updating the visuals and controls for modern mobile devices. The gameplay is surprisingly deep; it's not just about tapping the screen, but about positioning, timing, and choosing the right shot type to outmaneuver your opponent.

The career mode is where the game really shines. Watching your player go from a complete unknown to a world-class athlete is incredibly satisfying. The daily challenges and online multiplayer add a lot of longevity, making sure there's always a reason to come back for one more match. If you want a tennis game that prioritizes skill and physics over flashy arcade gimmicks, this is the one.

Pretty Chill Game with Minor Inconveniences

This game is really good if your into tennis. It’s a great in the ranking system plus the tournaments and its really enjoyable with barely any ads. The leveling up is easy to comprehend and you can make your own character. Some minor things, I haven’t played doubles very much but its really easy for the net player to hit an easy winner making most double games very short, and some of the calls are absolutely bizarre. On one or two occasions, the opponent (AI) hit the ball just outside the line and when he challenged it, the ball was called good even though it was clearly not on the line (this happened to me once when I called it and I ended up winning the point even though my serve was out). There is also a feature in the game where you hit the top of the net on a serve and the ball lands in making it a let but the line judges call it out. If you challenge it, you win the point automatically instead of redoing the server. There was also one time where my opponent was hitting it down the line and hit the net. It was originally my point but the AI challenged it and even though the ball hit his side of the net, he still somehow won the point. These calls are of rare occurrence and don’t happen every match so I wouldn’t necessarily make it a game changer. I would like to see better doubles improvement in the exhibition and lower coins to purchase a better doubles partner as all of them are very expensive.

Great Game 99% of the time

Okay so this game is actually really cool. I love how you can strategize and make your player better at tennis and that have a career and stuff. It’s epic. You can play on grass and clay as well as the hard court, and the graphics are pretty good. There aren’t very many ads and there’s a lot of things to do. The one problem I’ve noticed is very rare, and it has only happened to me twice. I’ve been playing against the cpu, who aims for the edges of the court, and then they hit the ball out and the game calls it out, so you can’t run to it or anything, and the point is over. Then, the game shows an up close version of the ball landing out, but it lands every so slightly on the line, gets called in, and gives the point to the other player. It’s really very annoying because you can’t do anything about it. Other than that, the game is great. I really recommend it if you have some time to kill.

I love this game, just not the mini games.

This is probably the best tennis game in the App Store. However, I have two serious complaints. The first one is the mini game. I hate touch tennis mode, and the fact that you are promoting it through the only reliable way to get clothing is terrible. The second complaint is how when I unlocked everything on the game and got a replacement phone, I had my progress in story mode, but none of my clothing or clothing colors. I had to pay for the clothing to be unlocked and worked hard to get back my clothing. Now I got a second replacement phone (both phones were defective) and I have to work for the clothing again. This really annoys me because I love the game, but I don’t feel that I have to keep paying for something I already bought. If you could just change the mini game to something better, I would be very appreciative. This is my favorite tennis game in the App Store.

good but please stop putting s and v players as #1

definitively the best tennis game on mobile and in some ways better than most console games-good amount of challenge and career mode is amazing. i've played the game since its release, and have loved it all except for one issue: the s&v players as number 1 ALL THE TIME. i think the game is amazing as is, but it would be phenomenally better if pete and boris and mac were not the top #1. in season 1 i was 25-0 against mac, including really early appearances. serve and volley players can just be lobbed away really easy. players like drew and greg are drastically more fun and players like pete and mac would be much more fun to play against as baseliners. also please add one more difficulty mode because one you get 3+ stars becomes kinda boring. , and pete kind of wins everything. thank you, however, because the game is still great as is, just some improvements would make it the best game on the app store, imo

Great but sometimes annoying

I love this app. It’s my favorite game at the moment and it’s my go-to whenever I’m bored or have nothing to do. The controls are simple and you learn quickly. However, it seems that once you start to really get good and improve, the game doesn’t want you to win. For instance, if you’re playing a 2 game set against a player worse than you and you’re one point from a perfect game, it will make your opponent drastically better so that a perfect game is very hard to achieve. And I think some of the calls they make are not accurate because I’ve screen recorded a couple of games and seen where the ball goes. Also, I’m sick of playing Jeff because I’ve won like 10 games against him and he hasn’t beaten me once. He still is in every tournament that I enter and with my luck, I somehow manage to play him every single time. It’s annoying and I’m over it. Other than that, it’s pretty addictive and very fun! :)

My favorite tennis game! Just a few nitpicks…

I love this game. The physics and controls are great. The art and gameplay is great. Even the balance is great. I just have a few issues. First, when you have max stats, sometimes the serving glitches and the serve ends up a little to the right of where you aim (just like when your character is low level). Also, the line calling is terrible. I understand that you should be able to challenge, but not as much as you have to in-game. Sometimes you hit a ball out and when you challenge the call, the text says the ball is in and you win the point. Lastly, ads can play when the opponent is going to serve and you cannot control the player so you end up losing points. Don’t get me wrong I love this game, the developer(s) just has to look into these bugs.

Good game but can get a bit annoying

I downloaded this game and instantly fell in love with it! However, as I played on, some things began to irritate me. First, the prevalence of ads seems to have gone way up, even popping up at the start of matches (so the opponent gets a free point while you’re forced to watch the ad). I made a purchase to remove ads and gameplay has gotten far better and fairer from that point on. On the other hand, Jeff is incredibly irritating. I have a 29-1 record against Jeff, and yet he still appears in virtually every single tournament I play in. I wish rivals were determined based on your record against them (as I have a 9-2 record against Drew, so that would be a better rivalry), rather than making Jeff the universal rival. Otherwise, a great game!

Easy 5 star tutorial for free almost no work

Go into the coin store and do free coins you get 10 coins each time, if it doesn’t appear after do a daily challenge then repeat and upgrade your player until 5 stars. However it is repetitive, yet it’s fairly easy. The gameplay is weird because at the higher rated opponents they will play up at the net and if you don’t catch that will score every time. It is hard to counter volleys so the lob is only good when they start getting up close As a matter of fact theirs a easy way to score. Just drop shot and if they return the ball then lob and they usually won’t get to it.
