Fixed minor issues.
Silver Screen Story is Kairosoft at its absolute best. If you've played Game Dev Story, you'll feel right at home, but the transition to the film industry adds a whole new level of charm and complexity. Managing a movie studio involves a delightful balance of hiring eccentric actors, choosing the perfect genre/theme combinations, and upgrading your facilities to produce the next big blockbuster.
The 'Kairosoft loop' is incredibly addictive—there's always one more movie to finish or one more award ceremony to attend. The pixel art is as charming as ever, and seeing your little actors perform on set is a joy. While the late-game can get a bit hectic with notifications, the satisfaction of seeing your film break box office records across the globe is unmatched. It’s a deep, funny, and heartwarming simulation that is easily one of the best in the genre.
Full movie studio management
Deep staff training and recruitment
Dozens of genre and theme combinations
Classic Kairosoft pixel art style
Experiment with different Genre and Theme combinations. Some pairings like 'Action' and 'Spy' work much better than others and result in higher critic scores.
Don't just focus on the movies; focus on the people. Training your directors and actors early on pays off with much higher quality stats in the long run.
Build and place facilities to improve your staff's performance and attract more famous stars to your studio.
Yes, it shares the core management mechanics but with many new features specific to the film industry.
Ever since I played Game Dev Story on my iPhone 3Gs way back in the day, I’ve been hooked on Kairosoft games. Also since that day, I’ve been saying that their game format would be great for a movie-production game. I’m glad to finally have it, and it’s everything I would’ve wanted in the game and more. One of the best Kairosoft games to come out in years. Would definitely recommend!
I’ve played most of the paid Kairosoft games and this one is not bad, but probably one of my least favorites. The game mechanic is extremely similar to Gamd Dev Story. There’s a lot of side scrolling, since it’s not isometric. It was a lot easier than any of their other games I’ve played. Kairo games always have a lot of pop up notifications in-game, but this one has to be the worst. It does get almost unplayable late game, as another reviewer said. Either way it’s still fun because I love Kairosoft. I would recommend playing this only after you’ve played their other games like Pocket Academy 3, Dungeon Village 2 and Game Dev Story.
So here is thing thing, I have bought and played just about every single Kairosoft game (most to completion). This one is another good game, but it is not their best. Where in most, you are watching the simulation and waiting for new game+ so that you get your bonuses and can make the game go faster... this one is the opposite. There are so many pop ups and things going on that by the time you scroll from one end of your movie studio it warps you back to the other for something. It makes it really hard to get into the mechanics of the game. Some of the UI and controls are a bit obscure and clunky. So overall, it is good, but not the same and not the best.
As with all Kairosoft games, there’s a lot of moving parts and very little is explained, but once you work it out it’s so incredibly satisfying. The only reason this isn’t 4 stars is that it doesn’t have a whole lot of ability to *see* the effects your choices are making, like in, say, TV Studio Story where you can design sets and make changes during filming. But otherwise, yet another classic.
This has the potential to be such a great game, and I’m a huge fan of Kairosoft. However, the main thing holding this game back is all the interruptions. You can’t play 10 seconds without the game stopping what you’re doing and forcing you to watch a cut scene. Whether it is a film festival, your staff contributing to production, showing the filming, or a million other things, the game becomes unplayable in the late game. I wish there was a toggle for useless scenes
I like it. It’s definitely different from their other games but the core formula stays the same. Try to get a high score before year 20 is up and then play for as long as you like. Or start a new game with some bonuses carried over. Its a great game I just wished their were more movie genres to choose from and more characters and film awards.
This game takes me back to the good Kairosoft days like pocket academy and the early games. Keeps me wanting to come back and try to top my score. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is there’s quite a bit of crashes and bugs, plus the new game + feature didn’t really carry over very much at all, was hoping for some training and stat retention on the directors and rest of the staff.
I’ve enjoyed Kairosoft games for years, but this one is very buggy. I am unable to “rank up” my studio despite meeting all the requirements (the challenges are met but aren’t counted); I have a contract with international movie theaters but when movies are released it says “no contract.” I restarted the game several times and have run into this bug multiple times, I can’t move past the first stage and none of the later game items are unlocked. Very disappointing.
