Roller Drama is a fascinating genre-bender. It’s part visual novel, part real-time strategy, and part sports management, all wrapped in a gorgeous, moody art style. You manage a team of five Roller Derby athletes, navigating their complex personal lives and interpersonal drama while coaching them through high-stakes matches on the track.
The writing is sharp and doesn't shy away from mature themes. On the track, the gameplay is chaotic and requires quick tactical decisions—knowing when to push, when to block, and when to swap out tired skaters. It’s a unique look at a sport rarely represented in gaming, and the emphasis on the characters' emotional states affecting their performance adds a layer of depth that most sports games completely ignore. It's a must-play for fans of indie storytelling.
Deep, branching narrative
Unique real-time strategy sports matches
Stunning hand-drawn illustrations
Multiple endings based on your choices
Pay attention to the girls' stress levels in the house. A happy skater performs better on the track, so spend time resolving their conflicts.
During a bout, use your Jammer to score points while your Blockers hinder the opponent. Timing your 'Power-ups' is essential for winning tough matches.
It's more of a tactical management game and visual novel than a direct skating simulator.
Having a cat die (implied killed) in like the first 5 minutes and one of the responses being "It's just a cat" seems a little sociopathic. I wish this whole subplot and the gross Shakespeare guy didn't exist. The rest of the characters seemed really well designed. I just couldn't get into it.
I was excited to play this. It looked cool. I didn’t see anything on here that said it required a gamepad, but it look like it did so I never got to play it. I was hoping because it was a management game. It was just something I could play on an iPad with a pencil. I’ve been informed that I can play this without anything but a pencil, so I raised it to five stars and I’ll give it a shot. If I’m wrong, I will return.
Get your skates on in Roller Drama and discover love, loss, and how to deal with an odd medieval ghost that gives you career advice.
