Rhetoric: The Public Speaking Game is a bold attempt to gamify a skill that most people find terrifying. As a communication expert, I find the board game format surprisingly effective. It breaks down public speaking into manageable 'prompts'—from storytelling to impromptu persuasion—which takes some of the sting out of the practice.
The game is best played in a group setting where peers can provide feedback. While the app itself is essentially a digital board and timer, the value lies in the social interaction it facilitates. It’s not quite a 'game' you play alone for fun; it's a training tool disguised as entertainment. If you’re a teacher or a corporate trainer, this is a fantastic resource. For solo players, however, the experience is limited since there is no AI to 'judge' your speech. It’s all about the people in the room with you.
Multiple speech themes and categories
Built-in speech timer
Multiplayer support (up to 8 players)
Educational tips from speaking experts
Choose your game duration and theme (Classic, Business, or Family). Ensure you have a 'jury' of friends to listen and provide feedback on each speech.
When you land on a square, a prompt appears. You have 30 seconds to prepare and then a set time (usually 1-2 minutes) to deliver your speech to the group.
The app does not record you; it acts as a board and prompter for live interaction with other people.
