Resonance Solstice is a unique blend of turn-based RPG and rhythm game. Set in a world where the sun has been stolen, players lead a band of 'Resonators' who fight using musical instruments. Combat requires players to time their taps to the beat of an original orchestral soundtrack; perfect timing results in powerful combos and defensive barriers. The story unfolds through beautiful, motion-comic style cutscenes.

Our Expert Score

89/100

Resonance Solstice is a refreshing departure from the cookie-cutter RPGs that dominate the market. By marrying rhythm-based combat with deep, tactical RPG character building, it creates a gameplay loop that is genuinely unique. Having played dozens of rhythm games, I was impressed by how well the 'beat' is integrated into the strategy; you can't just mash buttons, you have to feel the enemy's attack pattern.

The art style is high-end anime quality, with animations that flow seamlessly into the combat encounters. The story is a bit darker than you might expect, dealing with the literal loss of light, which adds a nice weight to your journey. It’s a polished, high-fidelity experience that feels premium from the moment the first orchestral track hits your ears.

Currently, the game only supports the built-in tracks as they are tied to enemy patterns.

Incredible first impressions

As an avid casual gacha player, I was surprised that this game has everything. Great graphics, well animated cut scenes, amazing live 2D characters and designs, chill slice-of-life vibe, unique and refreshing autobattler system with very detailed skill prioritization customizability, fun economic trade aspects, and of course the train gameplay that is unique and awesome way to explore a semi-apocalyptic world. The story isn’t crazy but the characters are likable with amazing Japanese voice acting. Though gacha system is pretty standard with pity after 70 (not easy to get SSR from the get go). Overall, this game shows incredible potential, and if it continues as it is currently, it is definitely set to be a staple in gacha, even if it’s not particularly outstanding. Solid 8.8/10 experience for me so far.

Should’ve waited longer to release

I know the game just released, but even so right now it is way too buggy to bother with in my opinion. First of all, the game right now crashes frequently, about 2/3 of the time (or more), you can’t even get past the opening screen of the game without it crashing, and even if you do, there is a very high chance of it crashing within 10 minutes. This is not an issue with the specs of my device, so I suspect it is software side. Second, though I haven’t been able to play much of it yet (because of the crashing) the combat is definitely bugged. Either that or this is the worst game design I have ever seen. Right now you are just swiping cards onto a blank background and then nothing happens and eventually you win for some unclear reason. This is something that glaringly needs to be fixed, because right now there is no “game” to play, since the main game mechanism, the combat, is completely non-functional. I think it was irresponsible of the dev team to let this ship as is - as the title says, they should’ve waited longer and made sure they actually had a game to ship.

Needs improvement

It fails to download all the way after saying 100% and in the introduction video it freezes on "I wonder what happened" and though there's audio it's frozen till after the huge fight is over only then does it switch to running again when she demands bring bonked. I'm IOS and can't even get help support. I want to do this game and give it a fair assessment but can't cause of issues. Till these are fixed I can't give it a higher rating.

I have been playing on and off since launch let me tell you this game has soooo many micro transactions and especially when theres a offer you have to go to the shop and click on the offer as if you were to buy it to stop the annoying alert, little actual fun gameplay the whole card battle system is unique but sometimes tedious and gets annoying quickly, the ui while looks good is a pain to navigate since it feels like im just blindly navigating it the whole time the tutorial is long and yet i still can’t understand what half the buttons do since there’s so many;you open one page for skills and then it opens another and so on,and the gacha system and getting tickets to summon takes a long time it barely feels like a gacha game,i really tried to like this game but it’s a game i might re-pick up at a later point

Who needs girls when you have a train?

This is one of my favorite gacha games. It does something unique and doesn’t get the attention it deserves. I hope that this small team can stay strong till they get a strong following. It is annoying that this developer favors non-global players, but every gacha game has this trend. If you can get past the (admittedly) long tutorial, you will have a unique gacha game, that if you choose to delve deep, you will be getting out charts to maximize profits.

Love it so far and looking forward to more!

The game is very cute and quirky so far! The drawn-on character expressions are adorable. The story and characters are surprisingly engaging and high quality, which is great. The voice acting is wonderful but feels a little quiet. However… the game crashes whenever I travel to a new location or draw a new character. I suspect it has something to do with the game struggling to actively update your player data or something similar (difficulty updating things like location and party composition). It hasn’t been a major issue because everything functions properly once I restart the game… it would just be nice to see the train traveling and character pulling animations that I know the devs put a lot of work into. Best wishes and excited for the future of this game!

iPhone SE Review: Unplayable

Even with the full game downloaded, there are constant crashes, sub 1 fps during gameplay, and the intro anime freezes. I have been playing off and on for three days and cannot get out of the tutorial because of these issues. Which is a shame because I would like to play the game that people with better phones are experiencing. But that really shouldn’t be a problem when I can play both similar and much more complex new games without any problems on my phone. Hopefully this is just launch problems and not how it will remain.

Horrible UI / No cutscene for ultimate moves

This game has 2 sign in rewards; one auto gives you rewards and the other you have to click on the image to claim the reward manually. I have been playing for 10 days and I just realized you claim the reward by doing that. Not only is inconsistent but there’s no indicator telling you that. There’s also some design for some events like you dont even know where to click to start the gameplay. Gameplay is cool but the UI designer is awful. Gacha games are full of fomo, feeling fomo oven horrible UI is not the way to monetize fomo or encourage game engagement. It just leads to frustration and wanting to play something else.
